It got bad reviews.
I find that Mexican vanilla is very good. I bought a bottle the size of a wine bottle for $10 from a Mexican import store in Pilot Point, TX. Lasts a long time!
I love Mexican Vanilla! I had a recipe for Sopapilla Cheesecake that called for it, and it is sooo good.
be careful of mexican vanilla as mexico has very lax pesticide spray laws
I also love pure Mexican vanilla! I’ve paid a mint to have it shipped. I’m super close to pilot point. Mind sharing the name of the import store?
You’re right, it is not “pure vanilla” it is baking vanilla with artificial and natural flavors and with some pure vanilla, and a whole lot of other ingredients.
You are absolutely right. I bought this at Jewel a couple of weeks ago and it is nothing like pure vanilla extract. It has an overwhelming fake vanilla flavor.
Hip2Save I believe you have mis-titled this item, some people may be disappointed with what they recieve
Thanks for calling that out, AmandaJ. I have retitled and tweaked the post to more closely match what Amazon has on their page. We appreciate you catching that!
It’s NOT pure vanilla extract which is exorbitantly priced right now, but it is better than the store brands fake stuff which a lot of people seem to not mind baking with. I purchased 2 bottles and it is perfect flavored, not Madagascar Vanilla but still good!!
not a good product! recommend sticking to pure vanilla extract.
I make my own, super easy, just vanilla beans and cheap vodka, and when the bottle is done the little beans left inside are perfect for adding to frosting or ice cream.
Natural & artificial flavors may literally mean beaver anal gland secretion — as that’s one of the allowed “natural” sources of flavor/fragrance used to evoke fake vanilla — they don’t even have to put the source of the flavoring on the label, so you’ll never know.

I had no idea. Many dogs need to get their anal glands squeezed on a regular basis at the vet. This sounds similar. I couldn’t read the article without signing up for emails – but I assume that there must be a large number of beavers bred and kept in cages just for this purpose? 🙁
It’s the same price per ounce at Walmart.
I’m glad I came back and read these. I ordered earlier then read these! Thanks everyone!
America’s Test Kitchen evaluated pure vanilla and imitation vanilla in blind taste tests. The results will surprise you: https://www.americastestkitchen.com/taste_tests/1924-vanilla
This was the reason I left them. Any baker worth their salt can taste fake vanilla a mile away.
Imitation has it’s place, but to say that people can’t tell? Or prefer fake? Absolutely false.
