Free Ancestry.com World Explorer 6-Month Subscription for Teachers ($240 Value)
Ancestry is offering a fabulous freebie for teachers!
Through September 30th, Ancestry.com is offering up to 10,000 K-12 teachers in the United States a FREE 6-month World Explorer Subscription ($239.94 value)!
The World Explorer subscription includes unlimited access to most records on Ancestry.com including international birth, marriage, death, census, military, church, and other records. It’s the perfect full-access option to build lesson plans or projects for your students.
Teaching credentials will need to be verified through SheerID and a credit card is required to set up the account, but it will not be charged. Note that educators cannot create family trees for students and this offer is for new subscribers only.
Got a library card?
In addition, remote access to Ancestry Library Edition is also being extended through the end of September for library patrons of over 2,100 libraries nationwide that subscribe to Ancestry Library Edition.
This offering provides instant free access to a wide range of resources for genealogical and historical research.
You can contact your local library and ask if they participate in Ancestry Library Edition to get access to this database and for more details.

It’s time to head back to school – do your kids have everything they need?!
Thank you!
You’re SO welcome!
I entered the code they gave me and it does cover the entire cost, however, they still want a credit card number, which seems sketchy. I’m gonna pass on this one for now. I’m too scared it will charge my card or “hold” the $149 for 6 months!
Hi there! A credit card is required, however it won’t be charged. I do find that listed in the details through the link above. I also find a chat feature at the bottom right of their site if you wanted to get further details on that from customer service. Hope this helps!
I would use an old rebate credit card or gift credit card if you have one available. I usually do with with freebies like Panera’s coffee. If I forget to cancel, I don’t really get charged.
They won’t charge you but they keep the credit card to auto renew you at the end of your sub. It is super easy to cancel (you go to your account and click cancel subscription). I purchase 6 month subs when they are $59 and then cancel before it reups me at full price. Been doing it for years and have never had a problem with them.
Thanks for this awesome tip, OG SG!
Thanks so much for this information. I have been waiting on a promo to continue working on my family tree.
You bet! Happy you could grab the deal you were looking for!
Hi do you know if Homeschoolers can participate. I belong to Hybrid Homeschool were we meet 2 times a week at church and teach. We have about 180 children that attend our program. I am the 3 and 4th grade grammar grader.
Hi Vickie! Here are the details they list on who is eligible – “To be eligible for this offer, you must currently be employed as a teacher, faculty or staff at a K-12 school or university in the United States.” Hope this helps!
Can you provide a link for that quote? I work at a university but all I am seeing is an offer for K-12 only. Thanks!
Hi Kate! To find those details, be sure to click through the main link above and then click through “Get Started”. Then hover over the small blue print -“How does verifying work”. There you will see a box pop up with that information. Hope this is helpful!
Unfortunately for us homeschooling parents, some of the teacher perks do not apply. It’s gotten better over the years, but still a ways to go to before we are recognized for what we do.
So totally weird question….I just went back to college to teach early elementary. In my educational foundations class I have to interview a teacher. Any of you wonderful teachers available for an email interview? I just have a list of questions I have to ask. If interested please email me at busymomofsix01@gmail.com. THANK YOU!!!
I seriously love Ancestry.com My sister has found family info all the way back to 1755. It’s the coolest thing!
Wow! SO cool! Thanks for sharing that, Queenie!
If your ancestors are in the U.K. you can go really far back. I have discovered ancestors all the way back to the 9th century, but typically the info starts slowing down in the 13th century. They kept really good records back in the day in the U.K. I could only get back to the mid 1600s in Germany but all of that was with a free membership. I am going to squeeze out as much as I can from the free information before I pay over $200.
That is so cool. My sister is also trying to get as much as she can before the free trail ends but we have a huge family so we are all going to pitch in to keep it going. I just wish there was pictures.
Did anyone else find that they were charged? I used the promo, but I noticed that they charged my account when I checked my statement. Arg!!!
Oh bummer! Sorry to hear this. I do see that they have a customer service chat option online or you can give them a call – 1-800-615-6560. Hope this is resolved for you real soon!
