On the fence? This review might help you decide…

What a great build this was. The whole family was involved. My 5 year old made the easier smaller models and me, my partner and 14-year-old tackled the house. The level of detail is amazing, they have a bath, toilet, etc, snow-topped roofs, and window ledges. Took us around 7 hours in total over 2 days and was thoroughly enjoyable throughout. We had a few tricky parts fixing the roof on and a few wrong parts placed in the wrong areas but otherwise smooth sailing. Hopefully starting our Christmas tradition of a new Lego Christmas village piece every year. I suppose the pricing is a little steep for what it is but I’d happily pay that again if it means me and my family can have a great time building like we did with this model.

So sad to say but I am glad my kids aren’t into Legos. It is devastating that this toy has become so unaffordable to so many kids. To be honest I find it incredibly sad that they have become so unaffordable to the children who need them the most.

So sad to say, but I am incredibly saddened that you find the price tag devastating and felt the need to share such a negative outlook. Should I feel ashamed that I am willing to spend this on my special needs brother who takes great pride and joy in LEGO sets? He is phenomenally gifted at puzzles and LEGOS, and I happen to think as a disabled young adult with little to be excited over that he “needs them the most.” Who are you to say that only children who are faced with the inability to afford LEGOs “need them the most?” That’s quite the picture you are painting. While I understand that the price tag may be considered steep, the quality of the sets is great and the customer service regarding missing pieces etc. has always been exceptional. He lives for educational toys like these and while I can’t routinely afford the $300-400 price toys, these more expensive sets make excellent gifts. I balance these gift sets with thrift store puzzles! They almost always have every single piece and are *very* affordable. He isn’t a child anymore nor is his family unable to afford LEGOs, but according to you he doesn’t need them?! I’m going to stand up for him against people like you. He can need and enjoy them without your judgment, thank you.

I have both of these sets. I believe these toys are affordable and educational. They have never changed, fit with any set and back their product.

Thanks! I went ahead and grabbed a couple of Harry Potter sets to bump my total to $150 so I could get the Charles Dickens set for free. I wish the advent calendars for 2021 were out. I’d have loved to snag two of those and this gingerbread house to hit $150 but I’m happy with what I got anyway. 🙂 If anyone is wondering, I did note that the Harry Potter advent calendar has a release date of 09/01/2021.

Super cute, but now it has inspired me to have the kids make their own gingerbread house out of the legos they have. It will let them be creative. It’s like making gingerbread houses with Graham crackers, frosting and candy. Each is unique and the kids are proud of them.

      That is an awesome idea!!

I really like the idea of making this a family build. In that light it seems like a great gift for an Elf on the Shelf to bring on day one or just as family time.

Even though this is pricey, it would be perfect to pull out each year to build again – a fun family activity and you’d get your money’s worth over the years. Some sets seem like ones you would only put together one time and then put them on display (my daughter did this with a Harry Potter Hogwarts set).

Anyone that has order from Lego.com, can you please tell me if the boxes are discreet when they arrive? I’m hoping them isn’t written on the outside of the box like Five Below does. Can anyone confirm this?

    • AGoodall

I have always had them shipped inside of another cardboard box if that makes sense. Still says lego on the shipping label, but I don’t believe there are any logos or big brand markers on the sides if that helps!

      • Kristy

        That does help, thank you!
