Donāt do grain free! I work for a renowned board certified veterinary cardiologist and we have soooo many patients that end up with heart problems due to grain free diet.
I donāt feed mine grain free because Iāve read of issues. What food does that vet recommend thatās good and healthy. My girl canāt eat chicken-sheās allergic.
I would definitely check with your vet first to see if they absolutely have to have grain free. I have a little mutt with CHF and he is absolutely not to have any grain free treats and food. Our vet also is part of a study finding DCM in big dogs so she doesn’t want our GSD to go grain free either. She is researching the data and for now wants her patients that don’t need grain free to have some grain, preferably brown rice. I would def check with your vet first on this type of food.
My dog had seizures 10 years ago when I first got himā¦. Grain free solved it. Heās 12 years old now with (sadly) some heart problems that my vet attributes to his long time grain free diet. Weāve reintroduced healthier grain options and heās been doing really well, butā¦. Proceed grain free with caution.
