So FUN! This Reader Made $6 Personalized Outdoor Chairs for Birthday Party Favors!
Need a party favor for your kids‘ birthdays?
Sure, we all love a goodie bag, but, sometimes, they’re way too pricey for poor-quality items. This week’s Happy Friday reader Rachel felt the same way! As a thank you for traveling to her kiddo’s birthday, she scored an awesome deal on something out of the box yet useful!
For my son’s birthday this year, he chose to do a beach vacation. I love party planning, so I invited his classmates and local friends to join us for a surprise beach party. The beach is about an hour and a half away, so I wasn’t sure if anyone would even come.
To my surprise, we had about 24 friends meet us for a fun day at the beach. We had about 12 kids join us, and I wanted to do something neat for their “goody bag” for coming such a long way. I thought of what I might purchase for the goody bags and then determined I could actually buy some folding chairs from Academy for about the same cost.
Academy has chairs (with their logo on the back) for only $6! For me, I would personally LOVE to receive a chair for my child over a bag of candy and cheap plastic toys any day! My mind was made up, and I was excited about the idea. I had planned on having a friend cut their names out in vinyl so I could personalize them, but I decided I could hand-paint the names instead.
I asked all the parents what their child’s favorite color was and hopped on to the Academy website to place my order. I did a curbside pickup, and they piled the chairs into my trunk. It was super easy! I drove home and began to paint their names.
I started with my kids’ chairs first, so I could figure out how to do the font and get comfortable with the process. This took me the whole day, but I loved how it turned out! Everyone was so excited to get their own chair, in their favorite color, and with their name on it! I hope they smile and remember our fun day every time they use it.
Rachel, these chairs turned out amazing! 🤩I can only imagine how thrilled the kids were to use these at the beach. Adding their names and purchasing their favorite colors was an excellent touch. This is a great idea for favors! For my son’s birthday, we gave his friends a Star Wars book and full-sized bag of Star Wars goldfish. I spent about the same amount as I would have on a bunch of little knick knacks, but hopefully those provided more longterm enjoyment and were less likely to immediately end up in the trash.

I LOVE THIS!!! Everyone loves useful things the most! One year when my kids were little I snagged a whole bunch of boys and girls socks at Children’s Place on sale and gave those out instead of goody bags and I received such wonderful feedback from the parents and the kids! They were of good quality, warm, (winter birthdays) and the kids couldn’t wait to put them on that night, and asked to wear them repeatedly!
