This Reader Crafts Homemade Gifts (PS, These Are AWESOME!)
Looking for a gift idea?
Finding the perfect gift for any event can be stressful, so, if you’re up for the challenge, why not get a little crafty? This week’s Happy Friday reader Lily made a bunch of homemade gifts; spoiler alert: they turned out incredible!
I usually make gifts for family on holidays like birthdays and Christmas. However, I have felt extra crafty thanks to the warm snap in the south. So, instead of making my sister one crochet amigurumi (stuffed toy) like usual, I decided to craft special favor boxes for our little party of three: me, my sister, and our mom.
The cupcakes were made with supplies from my stash and a free pattern from Stringy DingDing. The small buttons are cross-stitched magnets from a mix of free/library-rented patterns. The supplies were bought with sales, coupons, and gift cards I received for Christmas.
The bookmarks were free printables from The Book Rat and Botanical Paperworks. The painted rocks use cheap rocks and craft paint as well as some Duraclear I bought for another project. I even found the jewelry boxes and stickers at Walmart for the finishing touches.
Of course, no goodie bags are complete without candy, which I got from Dollar Tree and Five Below’s 10-for-$1 and then packaged in adorable paper treat bags. You could likely save money by using cheaper packaging or cutting down on decorations, but I decided to go all in since there were only three to make. They’re likely still a tad pricey for favors. However, since I enjoy crafting, the money does double duty by providing me with entertainment and my family with gifts – definitely a win-win!
Lily, this all turned out incredible! The time and effort were definitely worth it, and I’m sure any giftee would be super appreciated. Let us know if you’ve tried DIY-ing a gift before; was it a success, or did you have to come up with a plan B? 😆🎁
