One Hip2Save reader is helping struggling communities AND scoring cheap shoes at DSW!
Have some spring cleaning to do? If you’re ready to clear out your closet, you don’t want to miss this tip! This week’s Happy Friday reader Vandna doesn’t throw away her old shoes. Instead, she donates them to DSW in exchange for store credit.
She then uses the credit to buy herself a new pair. Just recently, she used the points she earned towards a pair of Chacos slides and was able to get a pair of these popular sandals for just $4. How cool is that?! 🙌
“I recently discovered DSW shoe donation program. If you sign up to become a DSW VIP rewards member (free to join), you can donate one pair of gently used shoes a week in exchange for 50 points towards a new purchase!
I took in a pair of dress shoes to a DSW retail location to the checkout, gave them the phone number associated with my account, points are added right away to your account, and I dropped the shoes off in the bin.”

Here is some additional information on DSW’s Soles4Souls program…
Thanks to customers like Vandna, DSW has sent 73 million pairs of shoes and articles of clothing to vulnerable populations since 2006. The purpose of the Soles4Souls program is two-fold. It provides short-term relief to those in immediate need and long-term relief by helping to boost the economies of developing nations.
How the long-term relief initiative works is that many of the gently used shoes DSW collects are bought by non-profits for around $1 a pair. These non-profits then help people in developing nations create small businesses selling shoes in their communities. These businesses earn money which stimulates the economy and helps people to lift themselves and their families out of poverty.
