Tuesday Morning Closing 230 Stores
Tuesday Morning is the latest retailer to file for bankruptcy and announce store closures in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
Known for its off-price home goods, the company currently operates 687 stores in 39 states.
After filing for bankruptcy on May 27th, the off-price retailer will begin its first wave of store closures on June 1st with liquidation sales at 132 Tuesday Morning locations. The company will continue with a second wave of 100 more closings later this summer.
The complete list of closing stores can be seen here.
Steve Becker, Chief Executive Officer, said in a statement:
“The prolonged and unexpected closures of our stores in response to COVID-19 has had severe consequences on our business. Prior to the pandemic, we were gaining momentum… However, the complete halt of store operations for two months put the Company in a financial position that can be effectively addressed only through a reorganization in Chapter 11.”
The stores that are closing were identified as either underperforming or situated in areas where too many locations are located close to each other. The company hopes to emerge from bankruptcy with the ability to focus on a smaller footprint with 457 higher-performing locations.
Keep in mind that the Tuesday Morning return policy is unaffected by the Chapter 11 process; however, goods purchased at a closing store will be final sale and ineligible to be returned.
Gift cards will still be accepted at all Tuesday Morning locations and there is no change to the Perks program (note that extra promotional discounts will not be allowed during store liquidations).
(Thanks, Ben!)
I didn’t realize they were still in business at all. The one near me closed years ago. I had really liked that store and always used to find deals on things for my home and to give as gifts.
I’m always sad to see stores closing, but this does not surprise me. Several years they opened two of these stores in my area. Within a couple of years both were closed. The stores never seemed busy and we’re always a mess.
I completely agree. The ones that I went into were always a mess and stuff was always broken.
I agree too. The one in Daytona Beach is ragged and filled with junk.
Ditto T! The one in Kissimmee, FL was raggedy and always a mess as well. Still sad that people are losing their jobs though 🙁
Yep, most stores are junkie and junkie! Quality is down, yet prices keep going up! They wonder why people do not buy!
This generation must be used to junk!
I can remember going into stores and being thrilled with new and exciting item!
Now I leave disgusted!
The comments are giving me hope that at least one of my stores will stay open. They are clean and organized. I love their craft department. I will be sad if they close here.
I am always sorry when stores close because it means that people are losing their jobs. Im I am glad to see that my store is not on the list. I really like the folks that work there.
There is a really organized large location in San Jose,CA Great items for porch decor…
I love my store! So glad it’s not closing!!
So glad mine isn’t closing. Every curtain and lamp in my home is from TM. All of my daughters Barbies and Monster High Dolls…so many awesome treasures at our store. I went to one in AL once and it was a bit messy. I guess it really varies by location. Really relieved though because ours is lovely.
Never even heard of this store lol
They just opened a store near us and now they are closing………………..Sad! =(
