About this unique plant…

brazilian pineapple plant

This plant is ideal to grow outdoors but you can also make it happen indoors if you have a super sunny spot. It needs at least six hours of sunlight per day and the more sun, the more the red tips of the leaves will stand out. Try growing it in a kitchen windowsill or in a sunroom.

Note that the pineapples that grow on the plant are purely ornamental and not for eating.

That is sooo cool! I wish I had a spot that got 6 hrs of sunlight.

  2. Wendy

We call these bromeliads, and I’m in Florida…lol

  3. James A Stiner

Pineapples are bromeliads, I have close to 50 plants in and around the Oak trees in Desoto county Florida. They are easy to grow and quite pretty down here.

So funny James! I’m live in DeSoto Co too!! 🤗😎 Small world!!

I wish I was in a place that was sunny all year. What would be the fate of this plant if I buy it and it is not fed enough sun

  5. J.H.509

I’m going to get one for my mom. She’s got a green thumb and we have sun all year round here.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

How sweet! Hope she loves it!

  6. mira

I’m on the product page and it doesn’t say anything about being “Brazilian”… where did you get that from?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for pointing that out, Mira! The post has been updated.

  7. Lisa 🌸

Sorry for the dumb question. Can you eat that pineapple or its just decoration to the plant?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Lisa! Thanks for asking! They are only ornamental and not meant for eating.

  8. nita

    Gorgeous plant!

  9. Karen

I had a pineapple plant on my deck and the raccoons in my neighbor’s barn (in the city of Boston!) Came on over and had dessert

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Oh no! I sure hope they enjoyed it!

  10. Cindy

We have one but I highly recommend not to grow indoors as they get bigger the leaves on plant are sharp and can seriously hurt you. Plant it outside away from walk ways and such.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks so much for the tip, Cindy!
