I tried several different dates but none of them worked. I’m on hold with Costco and they said it would be a 45 minute wait. Yikes

Same here. Can’t book for the dates mentioned in the post.

I’m not having any luck either.

After being on hold for an hour, I finally talked to a really kind and knowledgeable travel agent. Here’s what she quoted me. For October 10-15, family of 6 (2 rooms) $4,307.59 and a van rental for the 5 days. Without the van, it was $3,420. I also got a $250 food credit per room and some kind of other credit for $100. She looked into booking flights from Salt Lake City but all the return flights were overnight and that’s too rough for kids, so I told her we wouldn’t get them through her. I’ve never been to Hawaii, but this doesn’t seem that great of a deal. Thoughts?

Seems high to me. I loved in Hawaii but that was years ago… beautiful

I have stayed there and be aware, this is one of the most basic and outdated beachfront hotels in that area of maui.
When we first arrived i was so bummed i wanted to switch hotels regardless of it costing thousands to do. The rooms are sooooooooo outdated and ugly that it feels uncomfortable to be there.
Unless there has been some major updates, i would advise against the stay, it looks much worse than the pictures.

It’s being remodeled now…which is why I suspect this deal is being offered. The grounds are completely torn up and renovations are ongoing.
I hope people book as far off as possible to go when construction is complete!

I have to agree. We stayed in this hotel many many years ago and I was really disappointed. It had great reviews in a travel book (before internet reviews mind you). It is a beautiful beach but the sheraton next door looked much nicer.

I am a frequent Hawaii visitor….just in Maui 6 weeks ago (but do prefer Kona and Kauai more) – This is a very basic hotel .. it is by far the cheapest place you can stay on “TRUE” Kaanapali beach..- Kaanapali beach area is beautiful but can also be very crowded. Condo’s are a much better way to go – food is VERY pricey in Hawaii.. if you can stop at Costco after you land at Kahului airport, you are doing yourself a favor in just the snack and bottled water dept LOL.. and remember almost ALL of the hotels/condos on Kaanapali beach have an added resort fee for parking and other amenities -and not always are those included in the price. We used to stay at Kaanapali beach but now we have moved up into Kahana and Napili and use VRBO or AIRBNB for our lodging choices. Car rental prices are crazy right now but unless you plan on sitting on the beach and don’t want to explore.. they really are a necessity. If you do go.. we love Napili beach and Kapalua beach – both 15-20 minutes from Kaanapali Beach. If you go… have a wonderful time- we are heading back to Kauai in Nov and can’t wait:)

What a thorough and honest review. Thank you so much. We’re looking to visit Kauai for the first time. Any housing/hotel recommendations?

We prefer the Kaapa area on Kauai..its centrally located on the island. You cant drive all the way around Kauai so we like the fact that it is central. Princeville is beautiful but is also the northern rainy side of the island..Poipu is the sunniest side and is usually the most expensive. We always book vrbo or airbnb because I want to read current reviews of the room i am actually staying in and we typically book ocean front (because we eat in alot and want a view). We have found it to be cheaper and we get what we want when we book everything separate but the caveat right now is the car rental shortage that has the car prices really high…so definitely don’t forget about that. If you are a resort and sun person.. I would say Poipu.. Princeville has beautiful resorts but again – rainy side.. Kappa and Lihue are also popular choices but the resorts are not as grand… I feel they cater to people who want condo type living!! One thing on Kauai i would highly recommend is doing the Napali Coast Boat tour..to this day that is still my favorite experience in Kauai..can only be seen by boat or helicopter.. breathtaking!
