Amazon Prime Members Can Now Send Gifts w/ Only a Phone Number or Email Address!
No address? No problem for Amazon Prime members!
Amazon is introducing a new gifting option that lets Prime members send gifts even if they don’t know the recipient’s address.
If you want to send someone a present and you know either their email address or their mobile number, you can now use your Prime membership and your mobile phone to send a gift to anyone in the continental U.S.!
Just choose a gift from millions of eligible items on your Amazon mobile app, select the “add gift receipt for easy returns” option during check-out, and you’ll see an option to “let the recipient provide their address.” Then, you’ll only need to add the recipient’s email address or mobile number.
Amazon has built-in safeguards to ensure that the gift-giver never gets access to the recipient’s mailing address.
Within minutes, your recipient will receive a notification (via the contact information you provided) with your gift and personalized message. If they don’t already have an Amazon account, they can create one at this point. The recipient does have to have an Amazon account to claim the gift, but only the gift-giver needs to be a member of Amazon Prime.
When they open the notification, your recipient can see what you sent them. At this point, they can decide whether to accept it, decline it, or exchange it for an Amazon gift card. In this case, you will not be notified that your recipient chose the gift card option.
Your credit card won’t be charged until the recipient accepts the gift (or gift card option). If they take no action or ignore their gift notification, it expires within a few days and your credit card will not be charged.
Right now, this method can only be used to send gifts throughout the continental US, and it can only be accessed via Amazon’s mobile shopping app.
What do you think? Will you be using this option to send someone a gift this holiday season?

I see potential issues especially if the are using a database with phone numbers. They could have outdated info and the package could be sent to the wrong address. If you have the recipient’s phone number, call or text them for their address. So many people have moved recently.
The gift giver is providing Amazon with the email or phone number of the recipient, and it must match the Amazon account of the receiver.
The recipient must register an account with Amazon (but does not have to be a Prime member). So it is the recipient who is supplying the correct phone, email, and mailing address, not a database.
The recipient has to provide their postal address when they are notified that there is a gift waiting.
Nope. Encourages people to open all the âyou have a giftâ and âyou have a giftcard waitingâ spam. I get a ton of stuff like this all the time that initially looks legit, with stores I just shopped, my name, etc. It appears Amazon doesnât care about the harm their new scheme may do to people. Never open those emails and donât encourage other to do it.
It would be even better if they let you pick a delivery date! Then you could set up bday presents and Christmas presents to arrive by a certain time đ
That would be a great idea!
Iâm not sending a gift to someone I donât know well enough to have their address seems weird to meâŚ
This seems perfect for baby showers and wedding gifts. I donât always have the address for those people.
What is the notification if they donât have amazon, a text message? Isnât everyone skeptical of clicking random links texted or emailed to them? đ
My issue is that I can never surprise my husband when I buy him a gift through Amazon since we share an account
Nicole. Amazon has a feature called Amazon household. Two people can be under one account with their own email info and credit card info for this very reason.
I just tried to do this & it didnât work. I called Amazon & they said that an actual physical address is needed to ship an item. Have you guys been able to successfully send a gift with this new option?
