Walgreens: Using Multiple Register Rewards

I posted about Rolling Walgreens Register Rewards earlier today. I noticed that I’ve received a few comments stating that some stores are only allowing you to use one Register Reward per transaction. This should not be happening and you SHOULD be able to use more then one per transaction.

This is what the fine print on the Register Reward states, “Coupon Value cannot exceed purchase amount. Total number of Manufacturer coupons/Register Rewards cannot exceed the number of items in the transaction”

This means that you can use as many Register Rewards as you like. Just make sure the number of Register Rewards/manufacturer coupons doesn’t exceed the number of items and that the value of your Register Rewards isn’t higher then the value of your transaction before tax.

If a cashier tells you that you’ll only be able to use one, then nicely show her the wording on the coupon. If that doesn’t work get a manager. Usually that should do the trick. If not, let the manager know you will be calling corporate regarding this.

My Walgreens will let you use more than one RR and 1 coupon per item not to exceed the total number of items but they will not adjust even a penny on a RR or coupon. So I have to be very careful.

Thanks, this is helpful. I was wondering if you knew anything about using a RR on a purchase and it not giving you the new ones for your new purchase? For example, I bought listerine several weeks back when they had a sale. I used RR and the cashier said it wouldn’t give me the new ones if I used a RR on my purchase. I was a little confused and am new to the Walgreens shopping so I didn’t go any further in the convesation and thought I should do my reserch first. Any advice on this?

I am new to your blog and love it! It has been so helpful to me!!

Can anyone help me out… I would like to buy a lot of the Vitamin Water coupons as my hubs works outside and this would be great for him but I can’t find them other than sky high on ebay… Any suggestions? Please email

My walgreens lets you use more than one. I’ve not had to do it yet, but my plan is that if I know I’m right and the cashier and manager won’t let me do the deal that I’m trying to do, then I’ll step back and tell them that I’ll wait while THEY call corporate. Just to be a bigger thorn in their side for not knowing their own rules and wasting MY time.

Walgreen RR are printing out as a “Manufacturer Coupon” & you are only allow 1 of each RR or “Coupon” per transaction. For example, if you have 4 RR from the Edge deal, you can only use 1of these $3.00 Edge RR per transaction. IF the cashier tries to scan more, the machine will beep & won’t let you. This looks like it just started last week here (Michigan) or when I started having te issue. In the past, I have also been able to use RR to purchase gift cards & this is no longer an option.

Also, if you use the Edge RR, you will not get another RR for the Edge if you are purchasing one in that transaction. In using the RR, it cancels out getting another one.

HOpe this clarifies things. They are making it more difficult.

Our WG will let you use as many RR as you can on a deal but the pre-tax total has to be less than or equal to the amount of the RR. The cashier at mine was told that you couldn’t but was willing to try it and the register took it, so now they do accept more than 1. It helps to give the RR you want to use before you hand over your coupons, if you feel there’s going to be a total other than tax after coupons. It’s also helpful to remember that if you use a RR on a transaction and are purchasing the same item or an item from the same company as your RR you will not receive you RR.

Hi, maybe you have already seen this, but you can get online prints for 10 cents per print and they’re ready in an hour. I just got 51 prints for 5.10…a bargain if you ask me. It’s been forever since I got prints, but I’ve decided to scrapbook again and was looking for economical ways to get my photos converted from my computer. The coupon code is HEARNEWS and is good until the 18th.

  8. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks so much for commenting on the rule for purchasing with multiple RR. They wouldn’t let me do it the other day but now that you point out the wording on the RR I will be sure to stick to my guns next time!!

My local Walgreens has always had the policy that you can only use one RR per transaction. I’ve read them the back and talked to a manager, but they refuse to follow what the coupons say. The manager told me that each store has the right to make their own coupon policies, and that they don’t want customers having “run of the store” (His words, not mine) with the RR.

I tried to write an e-mail to corporate about my bad experience there, because I wanted something in writing to show the local manager, but for some reason rather than answering my questions they forwarded my e-mail to him, so all I got back was a snarky response from the local manager repeating what he told me in the store. Very frustrating. Any suggestions?

Emily, I would find out who the regional manager is and ask him if the manager is right because if you call catalina – the company that is in charge of the RR’s they will look up your transaction from your resieps and send you an RR if they think you qualified for one and using a RR from a different promotion does not void them issuing a new one.

  11. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I went to three Walgreens today to roll my RR. The first store the cashier was very nice and had no problem with the multiple rewards. The next store was a nightmare. The manager was telling me that if you use a RR to make a purchase you can’t get another printed. I explained to her that was only if it was for the same offer, but she insisted that she was right. So after having her return items and repurchasing them to prove her point……I told her to sell me the Skintimate for cash and the RR should print. Guess what? No RR. She actually did apologize for being rude to me. ๐Ÿ™‚ The Skintimate didn’t work at the next Walgreens either. It is a different kind of container than last week. New??

  12. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I have been having a problem here is southern Ca. My Walgreens have told me and even brought an email from the District Manager (but they wouldn’t let me keep a copy) saying that from now (March 27?)on if you use ANY RR to pay for an item you will not get another RR. No more rolling RR. It is so frustrating, and the machines seem to be set to this. When I pay with a RR no new reward prints out, even though it is a RR from a different product. But when I pay with cash or gift card, the RR prints out just fine. This is all from the same register! Is this happening anywhere in the country?

    K. C.

  13. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yes, in Michigan it’s the same deal. If you pay with a reg. rewards, you don’t get one, and you may only use one. They are adamant about that one.

  14. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Last week I had a cashier tell me that i’m only suppose to use one RR per transaction, but she didn’t care and was going to take all mine. So I got lucky with her…But today I went to Walgreens today and used a RR to pay and it didn’t print out my new RR even though it was for a different offer. Sounds like they’re making it more difficult for us to save money.

  15. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I knew that I loved your blog before, but now I know you are my absolute favorite. Thank you so much for pointing out the wording on the RR. I checked one of mine from today and it has been changed back to no restrictions which is awesome. I know though that at one point it did say “one per transaction” because I had a manager point it out and I was surprised having never seen this before. This was three or four month ago though so maybe it was just a test to see how that system would work. I think it’s awfully convenient though that no cashier is knowledgeable enough to know that it was ok to use multiples, the Walgreens cashiers love to make it soooo hard. I will be trying this tonight! I did have the same experience though with using more than one of the free Crest Pro Health coupons, the register kept beeping and se had to do 4 separate transactions. Thanks again for pointing out the wording, I feel like I have the upper hand with the rule now.

  16. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Please keep in mind that the Walgreens cashiers are most often following direction from their store manager or loss prevention supervisor and are in danger of losing their job for violating store policy…

  17. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I was able to use 2 ($2 RR) from the chapstick deal in a Virginia Walgreens today and I bought a toothbrush and gum and it still printed out a new 3.50 RR for the toothbrush. I think it might vary from store to store. When I was in a diffrent one a few days ago she refused to take more then one RR and told me she can only accept one.

  18. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I was just at Walgreens tonight and my cashier let me use 2 RRs and I got one back from what I bought. The other day I was there though and the cashier would only let me use one…it seems like it just depends on who you get checking you out. In my experience the girls that work back in cosmetics are usually more coupon friendly (I’ve had this experience at several different stores). So when I go there, I always try to check out in cosmetics.

  19. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I think some of the cashiers even make up their own rules. I had one tell me on Friday that I couldn’t use the B1G1 Schick razor coupon and use a second Vendor coupon, because the B1G1 already applied to the two items I was purchasing. I asked her to call the manager to confirm, and she held up the line for 10 minutes giving me her explanation of why I couldn’t do it, only to have the manager tell her I could.

  20. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I’m so glad you posted this. I had this problem over the Weekend. I had 4 RRs for 3.50 each. The assistant manager said he wouldn’t take them because the products I was buying (5-Coke 12 packs)cost less than 3.50 each. Then he brought it to the manager and the manager said, no, I could use them, but only 1. I did call corporate about this situation, but haven’t gotten a response yet.

  21. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

i’m in MI and I can use more than one RR. I can also roll them if they are for other items. i hope they dont change this .

  22. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Well, I guess I should have figured that it was too good to be true. For my two stores at least, I was unable to convince them to accept more than one in a single transaction. The manager came over in the first store and pointed (quite rudely, I might add) to the writing on the reverse side of the RR. He said “It’s all there, read it” I did and it is confusing to tell what they are referring to because it says limit one offer. Who knows, I just split my transaction up. I went late tonight so no one else was in my store, but I had to do 7 transactions in one store and 8 in another to get rid of RR’s that were expiring today! I feel so bad for the cashiers, but what else am I supposed to do. They built the system and I come. Hopefully they will get better with all of the upcoming changes.

  23. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I did not have any trouble rolling my RR. I bought the Colgate toothbrushes and got a register reward, then used that RR to pay for a Chapstick and hairties (both free after RR), and the RR printed out for both of them. I live in IN. Maybe the regions are doing their RR different?

  24. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I’m in LA and their only allowing 1 RR per transaction here too and we have several locations.

  25. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I went to Wags last night and was told only one RR per transaction. I told her they were like manufacturer coupons and could use 1 per item. She told me that wasn’t true and then called a manager. The manager allowed me to use two. I live in IN and this is the first time this has ever happened. I’ve been going to Wags for a while but only joined this site in the last 2 months. LOVE the site H2S!!

  26. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I had a pleasant surprise yesterday: had $3.50RR to spend and wanted the Scrunci hair elastics for $2.00 with a $2.00 RR. I hunted around for something (useful) to get for the remaining $1.50 so got 3 cans of mushrooms using the in ad coupon. My total came to $3.66: I was digging for change and the cashier saw the RR for $3.50 and said “you paying with that?”, I said “yeah, hang on and the rest is coming” and she told me not to bother! Woo Hoo. She “forgave” the extra. Then, the $2.00 didn’t print; but only because her machine was jammed, so another cashier took me around to 2other registers til she found a catalina machine that worked and I left with my RR (and 16ยข!!!!)

  27. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks for your clarifications of RR!! My husband works for walgreens and he nor I have been able to get a straight answer from anyone about how it works!! With your thoughts about making sure there was a “filler” I was able to use 3 $3 RR from the Skintimates on a bunch of items. I had just had too many coupons in the past and hadn’t thought about their RR counting as a manufacturer coupon. Now it all makes sense. Love your blog.

  28. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

So I have a question – if you use Register Rewards coupon to apply toward an item on the monthly rebate – does that nullify or reduce your amount for the rebate? (Hope my question makes sense!) I don’t want to find out the hard way that it doesn’t work!

  29. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

No, it doesn’t reduce your amount for the rebate. You will still receive the full amount back. However, Walgreens is no longer doing EasySaver Rebates.

My Mom and I went today on our lunch break and were told we could only use one RR per transaction by the Assistant Manager. I read him the back of the RR that says you can have as many RR/coupons as items and he still said that he had been given instructions to only take one per transaction.

I have always used multiples at this location (Prattville, AL) and in the next town over (Millbrook, AL). Never any problems till today, he said it was a new thing. Had we not been on our lunch break, we would have done separate transactions for everything just to make him mad… but since we didn’t have much time, we just left everything we were going to buy on the counter.

I called 1-800-Walgreens only to have them tell me the same thing, one per transaction, but that they would double check and get back to me, I also sent an email. Haven’t heard anything yet.

We are going back tomorrow and fully intend on doing separate transactions for every single thing we purchase. They are going to waste so much time, labor, and money doing it this way… not to mention frustrating customers!

  31. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    Hi!

I wanted to give an update on the above post. I called CS again today since I hadn’t heard anything back from them yet and the lady I spoke with assured me you can use multiples. She also said LOTS of people were calling to complain about managers and different stores telling them they couldn’t do this along with lots of other bogus rules they are making up. She said managers DO NOT make up the coupon policies for the stores.

She also said she has been trying to get Wags to send out a notice to all stores about the RR policies but that, basically, they haven’t gotten enough complaints to do anything about it yet… She said hopefully more people will call and complain so that they will finally get the picture. We’re going back to the same store after work today, so we’ll see what happens.
