(Thanks for some of these deals, Dapper Deals!)
Your title says 7/4, it should be 7/5
Whoops…sorry about that! Just fixed!
Thanks for the deals!!
You’re so welcome!
Can the staples deals be ordered online for delivery, or are they in store only?
Does anyone know if the give you a larger limit if you’re a teacher? Last year I think they did 15 but not sure about this year?
I’m a teacher and while I try to be mindful of parent’s wallets sometimes it does matter. For instance, Elmers glue is the only brand that closes easily so the bottle doesnt clog, one brand of crayons leaves a greasy mess all over, and Clorax wipes are the only brand of wipes that cleans the new tables the school ordered. That being said I always except whatever the child brings and dont do anything that would embarrass them.
Shanon, I’ll be going at 10:00am tomorrow morning and will reply back. Last year at my OD, it was only 3x the minimum for teachers, so I could purchase 9 of an item. Silly, because who only has 9 students? โบ๏ธ Thanks Collin for the heads up.. I adore these awesome Back to School sales. Let the shopping begin!!
I am a teacher also who went to OD last year. They let me do 3x the limit. I went everyday I could to respect the 3x the limit and still get enough for my middle school student 110 plus students.
I’m back from Office Depot in Central CA. I was able to purchase over $120 worth of on-sale merchandise for $24!! I’m pretty excited! They were sticklers for a limit of 3 with a $5 purchase on items where noted, even for teachers. However, the manager was allowing cashiers to divide up purchases, so I was able to purchase more than the 3 items maximum. I was truly grateful and let them know.. Thanks Collin and looking forward to what the next weeks ads will reveal! ๐
It really varies from store to store some stores will allow you to get a classroom size while others only give you 3 times the limit.
Do you think they will go cheaper?
Disclosure: I only looked at the Staples deals since there is no longer an Office Depot in my town.
I think some of the products will, but I have noticed the past couple of summers there were fewer 1 penny deals. In other words, I wouldn’t expect the 25c and 50c products to become cheaper. I don’t believe Crayola products get any cheaper than that.
I got Crayola crayons last year in August I think, for 25ยข a box at Toys r Us. I got like 12 boxes and gave as stocking stuffers and for kids to use throughout the year. They had hi limit like 10 or so for anyone.
I agree with Danielle that I don’t think you’ll see many of the items listed $1 or less any cheaper. I noticed last year after Office Depot and Office Max merged that the sale prices were not as low or competitive as they were the year before when there were 3 retailers. Also Office Max was the cheaper of the 2 office stores and from I was told by a regional manager when the merger happened they kept the Office Depot price points instead of Office Max. So I think this is probably about as good as it gets. I hope that helps
Bummer! Looks like there is a minimum purchase of $25 for shipping. The closest one to me is 45 minutes away. ๐
When is the best time to get school supplies? Should I wait until the week before school starts, or go ahead and get everything now? And does name brand honestly matter? My kids are going to a private school, and the specifically asked for certain name brand items (ie Lysol, not store brand).
In my opinion , it depends. There will be more back to school sales but if you have your list you can just buy the items that are on sale this week. Each week just check ads and complete your list. I do think some name brands are better. The store brands “Lysol” may leave a residue and the teacher may have learned from past experience.
As a teacher, I do think some name brands matter. Crayola and Elmers are somehow far superior to anything else out there. It doesn’t matter how cheap you can get it if it ends up in the trash the second week of school.
What I usually do is start watching the ads now. As you see things on sale that are part of the yearly school supply list, buy them now. Then, the week before school starts, you can buy whatever was left.
some pencils don’t sharpen well, some erasers just smear things, and some store brand markers dry out, crayons are waxy, and folders rip in a few weeks. Teachers know from experience which items are better and will last all year.
I will say from lots of experience the Staples brand pencils are some of best (cheaper ones) to sharpen. I had to sharpen boxes at a time. ๐ I think Crayola crayons and markers seemed to last longer and less waxy. I also buy these deals for operation Christmas child shoe boxes at holidays! Staples was available online last year for most items.
Happy 4th… Thanks for sharing this. I want to get working on this soon. I blog I subscribe to posted the ultimate back to school checklist. https://organize365.com/back-to-school-checklists/
can you purchase these online or just in store?
Many of the Staples deals are on the Less List, which means the prices are good through September. In store limits: 30 maximum per customer, Online: 10 maximum per customer with $25 minimum purchase.
Thank you for posting! Over the last few years, it seems like the school supplies sales in July are way better than those in August.
Can you get these deals online?
Anyone know the limit on the 1 cent deals at Office Depot?
I went to Office Depot last year and they were higher than Staples.
I advise to get supplies from staples now as the price won’t get any cheaper. A sales associate told me that as the weeks go by the limit on how much u can get decreases and prices pretty much stay the same.

Thank you very much!
Where can I get a cheap graphing calculator?
I got a used (like new) graphing calculator at my college bookstore. I think I paid $70-$80, which was the cheapest I found. They didn’t ask for a student id, but some may. Maybe you can check E bay/Amazon too?
Amazon has the ti 83 and 84 plus (graphing) for around $20-30 used in good condition category. My college also rents them out for $45 a semester. They both run over $100 new so I highly recommend Amazon.
I’m a math teacher. I’d get the ti 84+ if you can. Normally July or early August target will mark them down to around $80-$90 and that’s the deal you want to snag!
I bought my son one from Ebay after alot of price checking and it was the best deal. He used it ALOT through high school and now he’s taking it to college. It was in “like new” condition when i bought it and i was concerned if it would last but it did!
Does anyone know how long you can store highlighters and Sharpie markers before they dry out?
As long as you keep the caps on a long time depending on how much you use them i bought a 24 set of sharpies 4 years ago in high school and they still work like new but you can definitely tell which ones i used most but as for school projects go if you need a poster board colored i went through 3 a while back to cover the whole thing.
Kim, I got my daughter one at a pawn shop. She has used it for 2 years and worked great. For my son, I waited and bought it right at back to school and Walmart had the best deal ( bought it last year in August)
I can not find he staples 1 subject notebooks for 25 cents? Has anybody found them on the website? Or is it only in store?
It says on my ad “in store only”
I can’t find the Sharpie coupon. Gone? Or Zipcode specific? TIA!
Crayons Crayon 24ct is $.50 at Staples
That’s Crayola Crayons
Can you price match at Walmart or Target? Do they limit quantities?
Yes you can price match at Target and you should be able to at Walmart for the brand name items. However, Walmart is not the best at price matching and often give people a hard time (this has been my experience). I don’t know if they would limit quantity but I went to Staples and Office Depot this morning and the limit was 30 of each item with the exception of the $.01 items which was a limit of 3 each with $5 purchase.
I live in MA and went to my NH store. None of the items listed above were on sale like you show here. I had her scan the markers, crayons etc and matched them to the pics above and all those items were 3.99 or more ๐
Yay! Was so looking forward to this…but I’m not really seeing anything to run out for ๐
Maybe it’s because I’m still nicely stocked from years before ๐ but only the flash drive and white erasers are a good deal.
I just tried to shop the deals at Staples, and my store wouldn’t let me take 25% off when buying a backpack on any of the “hot deals” school supplies. Disappointed – seems like false advertising.
What do they mean by 1 cent with a $5 purchse? Do I need to have already spent $5 to get the pencil pouches for their sale price?
Yes. $5 before taxes.
no staples near me but i got my local office depot to pricematch for the ticonderoga pencils. i also got the 25cent scholastics glue and washable markers; these seemed like great prices.
I just went to my local Office Max. Looks like they are being sticklers for the limit 3 even if you’re a teacher. Guess I’ll be stopping in every day of the sale!
