Happy Friday: Birthday Month Deals

Sent from reader, Ashley:

A lot of retailers send you coupons during the month of your birthday if you subscribe to their emails, but some retailers send REALLY GOOD coupons! I turn 30 this Valentine’s Day! This morning I printed all the coupons I received for my birthday so far and had a “Treat Your Self” day – budget style! I left the house with my coupons, $25, and some pocket change.

Here are my favorite birthday coupons and what I was working with today:

Charming Charlie: $5 off any purchase! I got a scarf for 46¢.
Gordmans: $5 off any purchase! I got a much needed travel mug for $2.18 (there were plenty of options I could have purchased for pennies).
McAlisters Deli: $5 off any purchase! I got a very large lunch and tea today for $4.86.
Kohls: $10 off any purchase! Gold Star Clearance is going on and they also had a $10 off $30 coupon out (because the birthday coupon lasts all month, you can wait for another good coupon to stack with)! I got a pair of Vera Bradley jeans and a pair of Dana Buchman dress pants for $12.32!!
Victoria’s Secret: $10 off any purchase (Angel Card Member)! I also paired this with one of their free underwear coupons. I got two pairs of underwear for 55¢!
JCPenney: $10 off $10 purchase (actually not a birthday reward, just a regular coupon). I purchased a cute flyaway sweat jacket for $5.13! (Again I could have walked out with something for practically free – lots of things on clearance priced right over $10.)

GRAND TOTAL = ONLY $25.50 for everything pictured + lunch!

Did you noticed Starbucks changed their free drink for your birthday promo? It is now only valid the day before, day of and the day after your birthday. It is no longer for the whole month.

      • Diana

Yes! I thought it was good for a month still, but the cashier gave it to me anyways 🙂 yay!

  10. Sandy

How does the Sephora birthday stuff work? Do you need to be signed up for e-mails or a rewards program?

    • Alison

You need to sign up for their VIB card. It’s free and only takes a few mins to sign up though.

    • Miss LaLa

The nice part is that you can sign up in store at Sephora on your birthday. Ulta makes you sign up in advance and bring in the email.

My Kohl’s birthday gift for January birthday was only $5 instead of $10. Also, Firehouse Subs does not give you a free sub on your birthday just for showing an ID any more. You now have to download their app and register. I went to get my sub on my birthday and that would not honor the free sub deal as in the past because I hadn’t downloaded their app.

    • Cindy

Watch your mailbox. I got the $5 by email, and then a $10 promo card in the mail. I had my eye on a purse for about a month that I used mine on. I love Firehouse Subs. I will have to ask my local restaurant what their rules are now. Thanks!

    • Tabu

Just sign up with firehouse sub . It says when u sign up that starting feb 15th 2016 you can receive free medium sub . Hopefully i will get it 😊

  16. Juzz..

My lil angel is turning 1 next month..pls share some ideas for goodie bags and what to fill them with and cheap birthday decor ideas..pls help..am planning for a princess theme or Cinderella theme …need some ideas for balloon decor too..

    • Jessica

Target Valentine’s Day markdowns are the best. Not princess exactly, but pink and girly. I have been pretty lucky the past two years and my daughter’s birthday isn’t until December. I usually get stickers, bubbles, pens. They are technically valentines card stuffers but no one could tell because everything was pink not hearts themed 🙂

      • Juzz..

        Thank u

    • Michelle

Definitely hit up dollar stores for decorations and balloons! As for goodie bags you could do princess fruit snacks, princess coloring book, plastic dress up jewelry or a plastic crown. Happy birthday to your little one!

      • Juzz..

        Thank u

    • Wendy

For balloons, I use a 50% coupon at Michaels and buy my own helium tank. I learned the hard way, for my daughter’s first birthday, that you lose too many balloons trying to stuff them into you car. And when the balloons got all droopy, I hung them upside down from the door frame and my daughter enjoyed batting at them.

      • Juzz..

        Thank u

    • Judy

I know it is popular to do goody bags, but honestly, I just don’t get it…. people are coming to your daughter’s party to honor her, and celebrate her, I just don’t understand why you’d need to give them a goody bag for that….
Hope she has a great birthday 🙂

      • Juzz..

        Thank you

      • Liz Ob

I’ve done masks printed and glued to construction paper homemade cds with kids face on the cover printed themed thank you for coming tags used them as piñata Candy bags then added stuff after. Party city has some good suffers but kind of expensive. And making piñata are so easy. Make the body from cereal or soda boxes. Use 50% water/50% Elmer glue to stick newspaper on it then go round and round with slitted steamer paper from Dollar tree. For eyes or ears glue construction paper. So fun!

    • Sara

Dollar Tree sells Mylar balloons. They should have a decent princess selection and will inflate for you right at checkout. Great way to save money and no one will know how much you saved!

      • Juzz..

        Thank you

    • Adrian

You should have started planning earlier. Check pinterest for DIY ideas. Check the clearance section or $1 sections at Walmart and Target. Also, try Dollar Tree and Big Lots. Good luck

    • Liz Ob

Every year I make decorations for my kids birthday parties. I do a tower of balloons (connect four with a ribbon then alternate colors and do another four till you have a tower) then I buy a theme balloon for the top. I glue printouts to construction paper and cut them out then hope them in little scenes in the walls. I put little cutouts on streamer paper from dollar store and twist those along the ceiling. Then I make a pin the wheel on the donkey with the picture being the theme. Last year it was a pin the head on the droideka from star wars. Just find a good pic on the Internet and zoom in to each part on microsoft word. Cut and connect and put clear tape over the entire thing to “laminate.” For prizes I have a paper bag of goodies from dollar store or my cheap or free deal items for adults. Funny how people really like candles and deodorant for the prizes. I thought it might be silly but the adults loved it! I make the cake. Just buy tubes of decorating icing from wilton store. They are the cheapest. I also made a giant droideka costume from cardboard and shiny duck tape for my 5 year old who wanted to be that for Halloween the next month anyway. Got $1/lb chicken from the store the week before and froze that. $0.15 corn shucked and froze that too. It was a lot of fun but I started all this a month prior. Huge success every time! I also made a piñata which is sooooo easy. Just cut slits in the steamers from Dollar store to decorate

      • Adrian

I want to go to your parties! I always love to see new clever DIY ideas. I am big DIYer so I have fun making things for parties. Am having a Sweet 16 type party for my eldest son in a couple weeks. It will be a boys version of a sweet 16, so non-formal, more laid back, but still a bit over the top

    • TS

You could do princess crowns and wands for the girls and knight shields and foam swords for the boys. Dollar Tree has crowns and shields for $1. The kids might enjoy wearing them during the party and taking them home instead of goody bags.

    • Suzanne H

Find a good recipe for large, bakery style cookies or get ready made dough and combine 2-3 cookies together before you bake them. Bake them and put them in paper CD sleeves. You can personalize the sleeves with sharpies, have your daughter color on them with crayons or print out labels (CD labels are sold at Staples and similar stores) with your theme. All are cute options. Of course, use coupons for everything! The kiddos get a treat for later and you don’t have to buy a bunch of plastic junk – win/win!

  17. Danielle

    Happy birthday! You majorly scored!!

My birthday is this month and from edible arrangements I get a a free 12-CT CHOCOLATE DIPPED FRUIT™ BOX!* How awesome is that?!

That’s such a cool freebie! Edible Arrangements is soooooo expensive! It’s really easy to make an arrangement yourself and it can be inexpensive if you plan it out correctly.

  28. nannyrose

My birthday was a couple of weeks ago and my hubby and I went and ate at Ruby Tuesdays, I Hop, McAlisters, Perkins, Western Sizzlin, Captain Ds, Baskin Robbins, just to name a few. We paid practically nothing. Some of the stores just let us get whatever we wanted and then took the Max price of the whole ticket. He’s hilarious asking if I got all these coupons from “that girls site”. He actually likes to shop with me just so he can see how much I can save. Thanks for entertaining my husband Collin.

  29. Morna

I turned 40 yesterday. I got two free subs, one from Firehouse and the other from Jersey Mikes. I still have my Krispy Kreme and Starbucks. I’ve got a bunch of free stuff still to get!!!

  30. Roxy

I love it. This is how I roll too.

One of my favorite stories is about last year’s Valentines Day. I told my hubby I wanted to go shopping and asked for $10. Lol. I ended up getting a cute purse from DSW (used a $10/$10 coupon), a sweater from Kohls ( using a $10/$10 and shopping the clearance section, of course), a few cheap / free beauty items using coupons @Target and spent less than $10.

The way I like to tell the story: my husband gave me $10 and said Happy Valentines Day. Bring the change. And I bought all this and had change too.

And off topic, my Forever 21 has extra 50% off sale items – sweaters, jackets, coats, accessories. I bought 3 gorgeous coats for $21. I’m all set for next winter.

  31. Jen N

I had so much fun last year with all my birthday freebies. I can’t wait for this year. It was definitely a pamper yourself day.

  32. Nichole

My birthday Day is Feb. 14th. Valentine’s Day! I did the kohls deal today but on a gift for my nephews bday lol.

  33. Jessica L

Happy Birthday to everyone who has a birthday soon! Mine was last month. For anyone going to Houlihan’s, they changed their birthday coupon. It’s now a free entree (up to $15) when you buy another entree.

  34. Erin

What a fun birthday treat! The sweater’s cute–maybe I’ll have to see if my store has them! I usually use $10 JCP Qs on clothes for my kids!

  35. Lindsey

Moe’s has free entree email for your birthday month! Sign up for emails on their website

  36. Karla

Happy Birthday! I love the deals they send out during birthday month.

My birthday is in November which is the same month as black Friday & cyber Monday so I usually *try* to save my coupons until that weekend.

  37. Audrea

I am turning 30 on Valentine’s Day too!!!

  38. Roxy

Off Broadway shoes also sent a $10/$10 for my birthday.
