Overnight oats is a deliciously smart way to make ahead breakfast before bed and grab it out of the fridge in the morning. We’ve tried lots of versions and the banana chocolate combo does not disappoint!
Use whichever type of milk you prefer. We use skim or almond milk. Chia seeds would also be a great add-in! I like to mix in the banana in the morning.

I love the texture and taste of this easy recipe. Usually I’ll make a batch with multiple servings in a Tupperware and then serve in cups or bowls. You could also make individual jars. So YUMMY!

Thank you for your awesome recipes!
Ah thanks for reading! 😀
Yum this looks great can’t wait to try it. Could I use steel cut oatmeal?
I haven’t tried but am seeing no cook overnights oat recipes online, but it looks like you would need a little more liquid -full cup.
I make overnight soaks regularly. I usually use 1/2 old fashioned oats and 1/2 steel cut oats.
Yes…there are lots of Pinterest recipes for Steel Cut Overnight Oats. That’s what I use b/c the texture and flavor is a lot more appetizing to me, than rolled oats. Plus they are lower on the Glycemic Index than regular oats, so they are better for you!
Do you eat them cold or can you warm it up?
I prefer cold, some leave out for room temp, or yes you can warm up. Just personal preference. 😀
Just curious, do u cook the oatmeal first?
No the oats absorb the liquid overnight and become soft.
Thanks for the quick response. I will definitely try this.
Ok great thank you
I make almost the same thing, but in the morning I add a frozen banana and a few ice cubes and blend it for a breakfast shake. It’s so good! I also add a little cinnamon. 🙂

Yum! Great idea. I bet that’s a great smoothie
Definitely just whipped some of these up for tomorrow morning! I love these quick recipes!
Yum, I’m so making this!!!!
I’m wondering if I could add/substitute chocolate protein powder for my husband… looks delicious! Thank you 🙂
Ya I’m sure you could do that! 👍
I wouldn’t add it until he is ready to eat it. Just my opinion.
Here’s a recipe with protein powder
https://feastingnotfasting.com/chocolate-protein-overnight-oats/
I almost always add protein powder to my overnight soaks. For this recipe, I would add the protein powder instead of the cocoa and sweetener but it’s not necessary to adjust the milk. I also always use almond or cashew milk instead of cow’s milk.
I make this using Premier Protein chocolate shake instead of the milk, before eating I add a little bit of chopped up Almonds and Cacoa nibs and the sliced banana, makes for a good breakfast that will keep you filled for hours.
I tried this a few days ago and the shake didn’t get absorbed. The oats were raw. It was terrible. I wonder why it works for you and didn’t for me. Odd.
if you want the complete recipe you can find it on the Premier Protein web site, I followed the recipe as is but did not add the sweetener and it turns out great every time, maybe it is the Chia Seeds that make it thicken up.
When I click the pumpkin pie overnight oatmeal link at the bottom, I get the comments but no recipe.

Oh I’ll have to check that out- thanks!
Overnight oats have been a live saver for my busy family. Out fave is old fashioned oats with vanilla soy milk and frozen blueberries ( they thaw in the fridge overnight ) I also add chia seeds.
Thanks for the cocoa banana tip
Oh yum! Sure – this version is good too. I love overnight oats ❤️
Just made something like this I used the oats and instead of normal almond milk I used chocolate so that I didn’t need any other sweetener then I added a little peanut butter I just had a sneak peak and it was so good I almost ate the whole bowl even though the oats aren’t soft yet haha can’t wait till morning makes working early almost bearable. #chocolatepeanutbutterygoodness
Yum! Yes i agree! 👍
un…cooked??? Ewww. Is that safe?
Why wouldn’t it be safe? They’re in the fridge, not on the counter overnight. Oatmeal isn’t meat, it doesn’t have to be cooked lol
I’m concerned about the raw state of the oats in light of the recent flour recall last year where people got sick from e.coli. The company said it was a product of the field and can contain pathogens. I never knew raw grains could make you sick before that.
No bake cookies have always been raw. Never heard of getting sick. If this is the first time we are all educated about it, eat the raw oats. History proves it to be okay.
That has nothing to do w/ eating raw grains though, it has to do w/ a handful of *specific* products being contaminated w/ to E. coli. That doesn’t mean that you can never eat uncooked oats again…it just means that you shouldn’t eat the products in question until the recall ends. Strawberries and cucumbers were recalled several times in the last few years, and nobody is cooking those before eating them.
ok, i know this is going too far, but around Christmas time we had mini m&m’s laying round…well, i threw a handful of them in my oats and added peanut butter…(!!!) *it*was*heaven*!!! i repeated it the next day!! The difference is i do the overnight steel cut oats in the crockpot during winter because i like something warmer in the chilly mornings…(ps, mm’s melted slightly as well…)yum!
oh my gosh! Trying this! Thank you!!
Oh good! Enjoy 😀
Overnight oats? Sounds so good. Why did I not know about this!?😍
Super convenient and yummy. 😀👍
I started making the overnight oatmeal last week – in my yogurt maker jars since I didn’t have good luck w/ that lol. I LOVE the oatmeal and I put different add-ins in each jar, cause I don’t like to eat the same thing over and over again – thanks for the idea of cocoa – love that. This morning I had some Huckleberry Honey and a couple white choc chips in mine 🙂
Oh yum! Thanks Tish!
Yummy! I’m making tonight!!
you can also try Chia Seeds..really good
