Sham-rock and roll with these St Patrick’s Day snacks! ☘️

Who doesn’t love St. Patrick’s Day snacks? The day is a fun reminder that we’re inching ever forward into Spring, and to celebrate, we’re sharing these cute shamrock pretzels that take just four ingredients and a few minutes to make!

This idea utilizes two different shapes of pretzels and some candy to create festive shamrock snacks. The result is a salty-sweet treat that’s also fun to create with the kids and tastes yummy, too! I also like that since there are no nuts so it’s a fairly allergy-friendly kids snack too.

ingredients to make easy shamrock pretzels as St. Patrick's Day snacks for kids and adults

Tips for making shamrock pretzels as cute St. Patrick’s Day snacks:

  • Eating gluten-free? You can still make these shamrock snacks! Check out gluten-free pretzels from brands like Glutino or Snyder’s. Look for their rods and their twists for a wheat-free take on the original recipe.
  • Make sure to use parchment paper to prevent the shamrock pretzels from sticking to the sheet pan as the melted Rolo cools.
  • Here’s a fun and frugal kids’ activity to consider with this snack – use this appealing treat to lure in sneaky leprechauns on St. Patrick’s Day and trap them! 😉 Turns out designing fun leprechaun traps has become a popular tradition and Oprah.com has some fun DIY leprechaun trap ideas!

      Thanks Leslie!!

      • Dianne Chipman

I made them and the chocolate afterwards went kinda white and didn”t shine. I had the oven at 250, any ideas why the chocolate didn’t stay shiny thanks

  5. Stephanie

Oh good – thanks Stephanie 👍

  6. Karla

Love this! My kids will be excited to have another baking project to compliment their school work. We baked a PI pizza today to go along with their math and we can end the week by making shamrocks to go with their St. Patty’s Day study. What a fun week!

  7. MARIA CHERNEVA

Would that work with kisses chocolate?

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Yes I believe so. Great idea!

    • Heather

It definitely works with kisses. I make something called belly button kisses with a waffle pretzel, Hershey kiss and the M & M.

      • Janice

Can you show us them please

    • kellyfornia

I use the Hershey Hugs (white and chocolate striped kisses). They seem to melt better than the regular kisses for some reason, imo. (And I think they taste better)

    • kellyfornia

I make these for all holidays by just placing the chocolate in the middle of the pretzel with an M&M. BUT I’ve found that the regular Hershey kisses don’t melt very well. The Hershey HUGS absolutely work perfectly though!

  8. Danielle

I just finished making a bunch of these for my sons’ class parties tomorrow. Easy and adorable!! I’m certain they will be a hit! Thanks!! 😃☘️

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

You’re so welcome! Hooray for a nice lunch date! I’m jealous – cheers!!!

  12. O’Donnell

Clovers? We call them shamrocks. ☘️☘️☘️

  13. M

So Cute! Does the chocolate keep the pretzels together? Thanks so much!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Yep! It melts a little and then sets up to dry 👍

  14. Marylynn

I made these last year and they were a bit hit!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Oh thanks for sharing!

  15. Steph

Cute! Is there any reason using a WIlton Candy melt disk instead of the rolo wouldn’t work? Thanks!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

No, I think that’s a fun idea too! Thanks for sharing!

  16. Josie

Love these! Also, thanks so much to those that added tips. So helpful!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Oh good! Thanks Josie!

  17. Josie

Oh, almost forgot! I had my kids make a little house for a leprechaun to visit. We just used a medium sized box. They decorated it and even made furniture for it. They painted it and made it adorable. At night they put it out and each night wrote to the leprechaun. I replied to their letters each evening, so that when they awoke they’d receive an answer. Sometimes the leprechaun left little treats. Every night I had fun writing to them and watching them read those letters. They were completely engaged in something other than t.v. or the internet, and it was more than great for them to use their own imaginations.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh that is so cute and creative!! Thanks for sharing 😍

    • Ginger

What fun. I used to have a fairy play ground in a shoe box top. Used sawdust from daddy’s work shop as a sand for them to play and wrote to them each nite. Of course mother would write me answers on tiny colored paper. She got to get me to do lots of things that way. “So proud you cleaned your room” and etc. Was so happy seeing your post. 😀🍀

  18. Kristin

Any suggestions for buying M&Ms that are all green? Are those available online? Hmm, or maybe they’re not hard to find in the store this time of year…

    • Jamie

I bought some Dark chocolate mint M&Ms that were all shades of green. Found them at the grocery store.

      • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh fun – thanks for sharing!

      • Candy

I couldn’t find any of the green mint M&Ms at the grocery store, but did find them at Walgreens! Can’t wait to make them. I sure hope I can pack them well enough that they don’t melt on their way by air to my grandsons in Alaska and NY!

        • Carol jones

          And Walmart’s!

  19. Donna

Cannot wait to make these for the office! If you are making these the day before do you need to put them in the freezer? If you must do you refrigerate them after? Thanks!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

I think they would be fine in the fridge or covered on the counter if the room isn’t super hot. Great question!

  20. Theresa Satterfield

    Hi,

I want I want to serve these as dessert for St Patrick’s Day party and I’m wondering how far in advance I can make these pretzel shamrock. if anyone knows I sure would appreciate a text back

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

I think up to a couple days should be fine! Maybe store in a covered container in the fridge so they don’t melt.

  21. Jess

I found it a little easier to cut the rolos in half. Great idea! Using them for a friends st. st. Patty’s day party.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh thanks for the tip Jess!

  22. Susan

Love a great craft idea!! Food or otherwise! Thanks so much for sharing!! Susan 🌸

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Aw thanks Susan!!

  23. Amy Baldwin

I don’t care for caramel, would these work with mini Reese’s cups?

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

You can try, I’m afraid that would melt too much.

  24. Mary

I am wondering I can you chocolate covered pretzels?

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Hmm. If you are asking to use chocolate-covered pretzels, no because those would likely melt in the oven. You could always make these and then dip them in chocolate or green candy melts.

  25. Maggie

Oooh yum 😋. Our anniversary is St pats day. These would be cool 😎. 47 wonderful years years. 🥰🥳

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Oh neat! Congrats Maggie! ❤️

  26. Tammy

Cute, will have to make these with my kiddos.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Yes! So fun!!

  27. Sharon Wall

My grandbaby is in a “nut free class” what chocolate can I use?

  28. Mary Alice

So cute. Very ingenious idea. Might make them for church meeting.

  29. Sherry

I’m making these for my grandsons kindergarten class.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh how sweet! That’s fun Sherry 🥰

  30. Tamara

The rolos melt fast. I couldn’t get my M&M’s to stay on. The cookie tray wouldn’t fit in my freezer because my freezer is too small and I couldn’t get them to lay flat in my deep freezer in the basement so I put them in fridge.

  31. Marcella

    Best idea! So creative!

  32. IrishND98

We made these after you posted them last year. My five year old loved it and they turned out just like the photo!

  33. Andrea

SUPER CUTE AND EASY!! Thank you for the great tutorial with awesome pictures!!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Sure! Thanks for the nice feedback 💕🙌

  34. jonezz

    Thank you.

  35. Janice

    Such a cute idea.
