Bye Pottery Barn, Wayfair’s Got Just What I Need

Truth be told, I stink at decorating and really anything that involves creativity. Although I love a cozy and homey house, I have a hard time figuring out what items to purchase to create this cozy feel and how to arrange these items in my home. I can sometimes spend hours looking at decorating sites and blogs only to become overwhelmed and shut my computer.
Because I do not have a creative bone in my body, I have turned to sites like Pottery Barn over the last few years to furnish my living room and dining room. (Side note – I do sometimes fear I am like Rachel in the Friends episode “The One with the Apothecary Table” – you must go back and watch this episode if you have never seen it as it is one of my favorites!).
But as you may know, Pottery Barn furniture is not cheap (I mean, you can easily spend over $1,000 on a coffee table! GASP!). And besides the insanely high costs, many of the furniture pieces are not immediately available for delivery – we had to wait over two months for our dining room table that we purchased from Pottery Barn last year.
So when I recently decided that our bedroom needed an overhaul (our super dark cherry wood bedroom set was over 15 years old, so I was not sad to say goodbye!), I went right to Pottery Barn out of habit. But as I scrolled through the different beds and dressers, I just could not stomach the price tags.
And then it dawned on me – I should check out Wayfair! We post about Wayfair deals quite often on Hip2Save, but I had never actually purchased anything from the site. After spending about 20 minutes searching for the types of furniture pieces I was looking for, I found several items that met my decor and price point. I spent time reading through all the reviews and then nervously decided to click the purchase button.
Here’s what I bought on Wayfair (note that the prices below are what I paid in November – the current prices may have changed slightly):
- Swanley Upholstered Panel King Size Bed in Gray (SKU# ANDV4859) = $459
- TWO Horton 3 Drawer Nightstands (SKU# DBHC3299) = $213.97 each
- Gastelum 8 Drawer Double Dresser in Urban Gray (SKU# DBHC8239) = $573.99
Total = $1,461 delivered!
And guess what? I loved my Wayfair experience!
Within 24 hours after making my purchase, I started to receive text messages alerting me that my items had shipped, along with a clickable tracking link. And then over the next few days, I received more text messages alerting me of the estimated arrival dates. And all of my items arrived on my doorstep within one week of the order date – take that Pottery Barn!
I was also super impressed with the packaging – every piece was packaged very securely and arrived in perfect condition. And the dresser and nightstands seem to be super sturdy (they are heavy, so prepare to ask for help if you need to carry them upstairs!) and come pre-assembled – the only thing I had to do was attach the drawer knobs.
I have been shopping through Joss & Main for many years, which is now owned by Wayfair. Technically, I made my first order through WAYFAIR last month when I purchased a desk for one of my daughters. Like you, the one she really wanted was at pottery barn, but I only had a few hundred dollars to spend. We were careful to read reviews…which reminds me, I had better post mine! I will shop through Wayfair again.
We bought 6 modern wood with metal dining chairs to pair with an antique farm table we have. And we got a nice coffee table from Wayfair. We’ve had them about 2 1/2 years, and they are excellent pieces of furniture that get daily heavy use! The chairs had to be fully assembled, but it wasn’t hard. Love them!

I have actually found that you can find furniture sold by Wayfair on Walmart or Amazon for a cheaper price. It is usually listed under other names then how it is listed at Wayfair. For example this same couch on Wayfair for $829.99 is only $631.72 on Walmart.com

I’ve not had great experiences from Wayfair. The headboard footboard and side rails that we got constantly pops apart with general getting in/out of bed. I guess it’s hit/miss.
After spending months deciding between pottery barn dining set or pieces from wayfair. I decided to go with wayfair. The prices are far more economical and the quality was really good. I checked a lot of the reviews and pictures uploaded by people who purchased them before I decided. I ordered a farmhouse table, bench and high back dining chairs from them and everything was delivered quickly! The quality was amazing! Also the delivery service was phenomenal. They had an estimated time frame that it would be delivered and called when they were otw about 30 minutes out. The guys were super considerate and moved the items in the house where I wanted. I will definitely be ordering a rug through them soon.
You have inspired me once again. I have always loved your site and I love coupons, but always thought I needed more time to really get into it. I am recently retired and following your deals and ideas is now one of my many retirement goals. I find it fun. And, the combination of deals is sort of like a crossword puzzle to me. I am also focusing on my home and your Wayfair idea is convincing me to try this new approach. Certainly takes less time than going to endless stores.
But, I also have to comment that I LOVE the sweatshirt pictured in this post. How do I get one?

I have ordered quite a few things from wayfair. That being said, it has definitely been hit or miss with the items that I have received, however, every time I have had a complaint, they quickly fix it and have amazing customer service. It is what keeps my business 100%. I ordered an upholstered platform bed back in November and they sent me a beige top and a gray bottom for a panel bed that was several hundred dollars. When I called, a replacement was not in stock and they let me keep the bed and refunded me 100%. The color difference can easily be covered by a bedskirt. I ordered a couch that didn’t have nail holes pre-drilled (an inconvenient, however, fixable issue). They offered to send me a replacement or a 20% off refund (which I took). I ordered several dining room chairs and there was a dent in one of the legs and they had a replacement piece in the mail the next day. I’ve also had several orders completely successfully, with good quality for the price.
