Bye Pottery Barn, Wayfair’s Got Just What I Need
Hi all! It’s Bryn, Collin’s sister and sidekick.
Truth be told, I stink at decorating and really anything that involves creativity. Although I love a cozy and homey house, I have a hard time figuring out what items to purchase to create this cozy feel and how to arrange these items in my home. I can sometimes spend hours looking at decorating sites and blogs only to become overwhelmed and shut my computer.
Because I do not have a creative bone in my body, I have turned to sites like Pottery Barn over the last few years to furnish my living room and dining room. (Side note – I do sometimes fear I am like Rachel in the Friends episode “The One with the Apothecary Table” – you must go back and watch this episode if you have never seen it as it is one of my favorites!).
But as you may know, Pottery Barn furniture is not cheap (I mean, you can easily spend over $1,000 on a coffee table! GASP!). And besides the insanely high costs, many of the furniture pieces are not immediately available for delivery – we had to wait over two months for our dining room table that we purchased from Pottery Barn last year.
So when I recently decided that our bedroom needed an overhaul (our super dark cherry wood bedroom set was over 15 years old, so I was not sad to say goodbye!), I went right to Pottery Barn out of habit. But as I scrolled through the different beds and dressers, I just could not stomach the price tags.
And then it dawned on me – I should check out Wayfair! We post about Wayfair deals quite often on Hip2Save, but I had never actually purchased anything from the site. After spending about 20 minutes searching for the types of furniture pieces I was looking for, I found several items that met my decor and price point. I spent time reading through all the reviews and then nervously decided to click the purchase button.
Here’s what I bought on Wayfair (note that the prices below are what I paid in November – the current prices may have changed slightly):
- Swanley Upholstered Panel King Size Bed in Gray (SKU# ANDV4859) = $459
- TWO Horton 3 Drawer Nightstands (SKU# DBHC3299) = $213.97 each
- Gastelum 8 Drawer Double Dresser in Urban Gray (SKU# DBHC8239) = $573.99
Total = $1,461 delivered!
And guess what? I loved my Wayfair experience!
Within 24 hours after making my purchase, I started to receive text messages alerting me that my items had shipped, along with a clickable tracking link. And then over the next few days, I received more text messages alerting me of the estimated arrival dates. And all of my items arrived on my doorstep within one week of the order date – take that Pottery Barn!
I was also super impressed with the packaging – every piece was packaged very securely and arrived in perfect condition. And the dresser and nightstands seem to be super sturdy (they are heavy, so prepare to ask for help if you need to carry them upstairs!) and come pre-assembled – the only thing I had to do was attach the drawer knobs.
Their customer service is amazing! We purchased a table that had damage when it arrived. They told us to keep the damaged one and sent a new one right away. Our customer service rep checked in multiple times to make sure it was on when it arrived. Weāve purchased many other things since then and been happy with all of it.

Where did you get your comforter???
I got the white down comforter from Target. The gray colored comforter is from DKNY and I believe it is the Loft Stripe Comforter Set – I purchased it several years ago from Bed, Bath & Beyond.
We have this same comforter from target and LOVE it!!

We used Wayfair to purchase a dual sink vanity. It was well packaged and quickly delivered. We were impressed.
We’ve gotten an entryway rug, a headboard, an all glass coffee table, a mirrored sideboard and various trays for decor from Wayfair and I have been nothing been happy with the quality of their products. I’ve seen the exact same things for sale on other sites for far more money. I ordered two trays and one of them came shattered and I realized I didn’t need a replacement and Wayfair was happy to give me a refund and after I sent in a picture of the shattered tray, they gave me 10% off my next purchase. It’s my go-to for contemporary furniture without a crazy price tag.
I love their open box deals I’ve gotten several amazing deals at 80% off!!! Majority come brand new and a couple pieces have come only slightly damaged. I had two pieces come with significant damage and knowing their no return policy on open box deals decided to call to see if anything could be done, they refunded my purchases immediately and told me to just discard the damaged items. I was so impressed! The bad thing about open box deals is a number of my orders have been canceled but at 80% its expected.
Oh wow! I am going to have to check out the open box section!
You could talk about one company, without bashing another.
Its a deal website! We love this site for the deals they post. It’s called price comparison, they’re not bashing any company they’re simply stating the facts to help us save while finding quality furniture. I myself love & appreciate Hip2Save who helps all of us smart shopper & save money!
How is she bashing? She said she loves Pottery Barn and has decorated her house with their products. She just can’t deal with the prices. And seeing as this is a money-saving blog…I’d say it’s a relevant and honest comparison.
Wayfair is overpriced and most of their furniture isn’t real wood. Pottery barn is expensive but they sell better quality furniture.
Nope! I recently purchased PBTeen Harry Potter items and several were in horrible condition including the items they replaced. I’ll also add when speaking to SCR their attitude was they didn’t care so I sent an email to CS along with photos and their attitude mirrored that of the SCR. I’m happy your experience was so wonderful but not everyone shares your opinion.
Ordered a sectional from Pottery barn and after waiting SIX MONTHS, they delivered a partial sectional with scissors sewn into it. HUGE upholstery scissors sewn into it that my son sat on. It took me another two months to finally get them to respond to me and at that point I still hadnāt received the corner piece to the sectional. I demanded they pick it up and refund the entire thing! It was also the cheapest looking and most uncomfortable sofa ever (PB Soma sectional). Iām done with PB.
Seriously, Amy? Chill out. It’s discussions like these that make me appreciate the Hip2Save team.

I recently purchased my first items from Wayfair as well. We are in the process of remodeling our kitchen ourselves and let me tell you itās been quite a project. We looked all over for a unique tile back splash to go with our quartz countertops but could not find what we were looking for anywhere. Low and behold Wayfair had a carerra marble leaf like shaped backsplash. We are in the process of putting it up now. It is absolutely gorgeous and not one tile was cracked during shipping. Was bubble wrapped tightly they were well protected
Wayfair is the BOMB! Their customer service is the best I’ve EVER came across. Their stuff is GREAT and the prices really do rock! I’m with you 100 %
Best customer service! Ordered 6 dining chairs & 2 were damaged. They were replaced immediately. I was so thankful bc the damage of the 2 chairs didnāt make them useable at all, so I was worried replacements would take forever. Definitely recommend Wayfair!
Can I just say that this post made my inner girlie girl giggle with delight?? Bryn, you may just be my decorating soul mate! I feel the EXACT SAME WAY! I get so overwhelmed looking at decorating blogs, Pinterest, etc. Maybe I just suffer from analysis paralysis. I dunno… In any case, thank you for sharing this post! I often forget to checkout Wayfair, and instead go to places like Crate & Barrel for inspiration. I always hesitate to commit to purchasing, because the price tags are just so hard to swallow. I then end up with nothing (sigh). Case in point, I’ve been secretly stalking their Udan Coffee Table for 2 years now.
About 3 years ago I made my first purchase from Wayfair – a small wine cabinet with a dark, marble top. It was delivered super fast, was packaged extremely well and was sooo reasonably priced! I’m very pleased with that purchase. Hmmmm, I wonder if they have an Udan coffee table…lol

I ordered 2 dressers and a headboard on 11/25 from Wayfair. One dresser was delivered on time with extensive damage. They sent another one. It was damaged worse than the first. They sent a third. Damaged as well. The second dresser I ordered was never shipped. I cancelled it. The headboard was lost in transit. I cancelled it. I have been refunded for the three items but now have three damaged dressers I am responsible for getting rid of or donating. In the meantime I ordered a dresser from Overstock. It was delivered on time in perfect condition. I will never order furniture from Wayfair again.

I ordered a coffee table at wayfair, when a piece cracked they immediately refunded our money and told us to either keep it or donate because it was still functional. Great cs
Am I the only one that knows this? Google image search anything you are about to purchase on wayfair and without failā-you can always find it cheaper. Their markup is so high.

I have purchased a baby gate and it took me a month to decide the gate is not good ,some days passed because we need a drill from friend to fix and once we start using it I felt like its design was hurting my baby’s fingers.Finally I called them to see if I still have an option to return and they refunded my money and said to donate or keep.

i had nothing but bad experiences with wayfair. i paid for delivery and set up on a couch because i live on the 3rd floor and obviously, cant carry a couch up 3 floors myself. they called said they would be here in 5 minutes and just left the couch outside with a note that they knocked on my apartment door but no one answered. they were hours after expected delivery i was home and my building locks so obviously, they couldn’t knock. then i ordered a bed frame and they left it outside in the rain. then my tv stand was missing parts. plus when i ordered the couch, it prompted me to open a credit card and get extra savings, so i opened a card and then found out my item DIDNT QUALIFY. i’ve contacted customer service every time and they have never cared.

I canāt say I agree. I purchased a light fixture and notice it was significantly cheaper on Amazon under a different name. Called as soon as I made the order to cancel and they said they couldnāt since it was being prepared for shipment. Thatās a fast 5 seconds to not be able to change your order. Had to print off a return and find a UPS to take the bulky fixture back. Wayfair is not the cheapest place but I guess cheaper than Pottery Barn.

It must be great to be able to order from a company like Wayfair — if you are NOT in Alaska or Hawaii. The shipping to Alaska is more than the item so we never order anything from Wayfair, Overstock. Can’t order furniture from Amazon either since almost all furniture exceeds their normal shipping limit size/weight, even though we are Amazon Prime members. Sometimes, and most of the time, Alaska is a true shipping-hell.
We bought a toddler bed from Wayfair a few weeks ago. Lowest price we had seen and the shipping was super fast and as promised. Will definitely shop again.
This is a funny post because my daughter wants a $200 bean bag chair from Pottery Barn but I’m looking on Wayfair instead. Just hoping the quality is just as nice.
Get a yogibo bean bag if you are going to spend that kind of money. Buy it on wayfair with a coupon.

I can’t tell you how much I love Wayfair. I’ve ordered a bedframe and console table from them. Their customer service has been amazing! If ever an item goes on sale for less than you paid, feel free to reach out – they will give you a price adjustment and credit your account the difference!
Pottery Barn’s Customer Service has been absolutely AWFUL lately – Williams Sonoma as well. Items take weeks (if not months) to arrive. I ordered a toaster oven from WS for a friend’s shower and was never notified it was backordered three times! After calling their Customer Service, I was refunded my order but they woudln’t refund me for my gift wrapping. It made no sense whatsoever!!!
Is wayfair part of sears? I thought so, I see it on their website when I place orders. If so, will it go out when/if sears does?
We are building a new house and replacing much of our over loved furniture from our old house. My husband keeps making me promise that it will not be a āPottery Barnā house…he keeps saying be a Phoebe not a Rachel!!
We love Wayfair! Their prices do fluctuate so if you keep an eye on something you can possibly snag it cheaper! Also, they have a āsisterā site called Joss & Main that sells identical items but under different names (I.e. Wayfairās āHudsonā dresser might be called āAveryā dresser on Joss & Main). Joss & Mainās prices fluctuate as well so itās smart to check both as their prices can vary greatly for the exact same item!! Thanks for all you do Hip2Save!!
My experience with Wayfair has been great. Iāve ordered from them last year a rug, a TV table and an entryway table & thankfully no issues. Happy with items & their quality and how items were delivered too. I had been thinking of changing my headboard for an upholstered one. Now Iām having 2nd thoughts about doing so. I feel really bad for those people I read on the reviews. It can be costly to get rid of bed bugs & I canāt even imagine how they feel. Thatās not something easy to deal or to process mentally either. When I get a delivery, I always take everything out of the boxes before I bring the items into my home because Iām terrified of bringing some kind of bug in. Even when I get my subscribe & save items from Amazon, I take everything outside of the boxes & bring in it. Even when I buy pillows or comforters at the stores, I try to get a package that hasnāt been opened. I find those things should not be returned.
I also didnāt think they were bashing another store but providing a comparison. This website is so helpful and I just find she provided her remodel for us to know her great experience and shared what she did. Bedroom looks great and hopefully no one encounters any problems like those provided in the link from any store.
I have two sofa sets in my cart right now on Wayfair that I have been pondering for about a month now. Guess I will pull the trigger on one of them after Christmas.
I have had really bad luck with them and their customer service. I ordered an entryway table that took several weeks to deliver and was severely damaged. Customer service gave basically no response. I finally had to dispute it on my credit card. Iāve had much better luck with Overstock and they seem to be cheaper.

Same here, I waited months for a bed to arrive. Once the bed arrived an entire box was missing. After numerous phone calls and weeks later the missing section of my bed arrived and it was very damaged. It took another 2 weeks to get a replacement section. It was nothing short of a nightmare and I will never order anything from them again. I thought maybe it was just my bad luck but my niece ordered from them and received a used item with someones scissors still left in the box.
I got two rugs there for appr. $70. One of the rugs was almost that much on Amazon. They are very nice!
We bought a bunch of this from Wayfair in the summer when we moved to a new house. I was happy with everything we got. In fact, we have that exact same headboard!

The only thing I’ve ever ordered from them is a chicken coop. Haha. It was a really fancy one and it was great. I’ve got my eye on lots of stuff on the site though. Just need to keep saving my pennies. š
I have also had great experience with Wayfair. Iāve ordered a kitchen table and chairs, rugs, and lamps. All arrived in great condition. I paid extra to have the table and chairs put together and they were fabulous about that-they assembled it all in my garage and brought it into the house and set it up.
We bought āthe tableā we have wanted for many years from Wayfair. We took advantage of the 3 year warranty, which covers practically everything. I used it recently when my daughter spilled some nail polish on the table (yikes!!!). They sent out a repair person who repaired it and honestly, you canāt even find the spill! We ordered a solid wood mahogany table, and I shopped around A LOT before deciding on Wayfair. Excellent customer service, and I also used their white glove delivery. I canāt say enough good things about Wayfair. So far, so good with our family of 8 who gathers around what I hope will be an heirloom piece of furniture for years to come!
Before you buy from Wayfair, check out bestchoiceproducts.com. I ordered a padded headboard bed frame from wayfair for myself and then found the same bed on bcp for about $50 less. I ordered that one for my daughter. Other than assembly instructions they are identical! They seem to carry very similar merchandise, but with bcp being less expensive.

When you are purchasing on Wayfair, also cut the item description and paste to the Walmart.com website. Sometimes I have found the exact same item even cheaper on Walmart.com. As to Pottery Barn, bargain hunters can still find AMAZING deals on Pottery Barn by shopping their clearance and using free shipping offers. A clearance PB duvet cover is big-box cheap and can make a room!
