Pumpkin Spice SPAM

We did not see this coming. You?

Lattes, baked goods, cream cheese, yogurt… Is there anything pumpkin spice can’t do? It looks like we’re about to find out because Hormel is seriously testing the limits of this popular fall flavor with its new Pumpkin Spice SPAM.

To be clear, there is no actual pumpkin in Pumpkin Spice SPAM, just the spices one would traditionally pair with pumpkin (cinnamon, clove, allspice, and nutmeg). But still…

How did this happen?! In 2017, SPAM first floated the idea by sharing this jokey Facebook post:

Pumpkin Spice SPAM on Facebook

We all had a good laugh, then promptly returned to our lives in a world where both SPAM and pumpkin spice would have the good sense to stay in their respective lanes… so we thought!

According to NBC News, Pumpkin Spice SPAM is happening for real, and it will be sold online only at Walmart.com and Spam.com for a limited time beginning on September 23rd.

So what’s a person supposed to do with this new Pumpkin Spice SPAM? Hormel recommends topping waffles with it, adding it to a fall vegetable hash, or baking it into cornbread muffins. Hmm… OK, maybe. We’ll think about it.

Do you plan to try Pumpkin Spice SPAM, or do you think we’ve finally found the bottom of the pumpkin spice trend? Discuss.

    🤢

  2. Rachel

A friend of mine posted it on Facebook yesterday and said that she and her husband enjoyed it. Not so sure I want to try it though.

  3. Julie

    Is this April fools?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

      It’s the real deal, Julie!

  4. Kandyce

Spam is already a don’t and then they add pumpkin! Um no, I’ll definitely pass.

  5. k80

Funny .. you have no words ??
    Bet i do .. 🤮

  6. MW

Excuse me while I hurl. 🤢

  7. Kcaspie143

When I was growing up in the 70’s we would glaze the loaf of Spam (brown sugar glaze) score the top & then insert cloves & bake it like a miniature ham. It was pretty good. I’m not sure about the cinnamon however but I may try it. My kids don’t like Spam at all though.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

We actually did that as well, Kcaspie143!

  8. Diana

    I have one word…..vomit

  9. Diana

Maybe as a white elephant gift

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

I like that idea as well!

  10. sne3103

Okay so I didn’t grown up in the US, what exactly is SPAM? Is it like lunchmeat?

    • Daniela

Cooked canned pork. I love it sliced and deep fried as a side to eggs, like bacon. You have to get it crispy though. My cousin in Hawaii loves it as is from the can, cubed, and tossed with poke and white rice. They have lots of food trucks with this option.

      • Gina G.

My husband fries it and eats it on loaf bread like a sandwich! A lot of people will dice it up and serve in mac & cheese. It is a big staple in Hawaii.

    • Mommyof71987

It is canned meat. It has chicken and pork in it. Kind of like ground meat and fat smashed in a can. Lol

      • Daniela

I have never seen spam with chicken. It is always pork with maybe different versions with more or les added flavor like curry or salt and pepper.

  11. riss

Wow! Spam is going mainstream full force! No longer a Hawaiian and Asian thing. I’ll pass.

  12. Anna B

Okay, I actually think a fall vegetable hash with some spam sounds kinda good…. 💁

    • Meg

      I agree

  13. Wren

My dad eats Spam occasionally but I highly doubt he’d try this. He grew up pretty poor with three brothers, and I believe his mom would feed them this. He never fed it to me though 😂

  14. Dealzgurl

I actually like Spam but don’t eat it anymore because of its poor nutritional value. I don’t, however, like Pumpkin Spice and actually dread seeing pumpkin-flavored everything during the fall, lol. So, my words are that I will not be trying this, ha ha ha.

    • Diana

I don’t care for pumpkin spice anything too.

  15. Suzanne

I am all about some pumpkin spice, but even I draw the line here. LoL 🤢

  16. Lisa

I love Spam. Why would they ruin it like this?? 😡

  17. Cat

All you opinionated people these days need to mind your own business. You can say you don’t like it. It’s not for you. But please stop belittling people that like it. I’m sure there are things you do somewhere in your life that others would find questionable so keep your judgments to yourself please.

    • Amanda

      👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

    • VJ

Hmmm. Didn’t notice anyone belittling anyone else… Just opinions here, which is what “discuss” means. 🙂

    • Kitty

It says to “discuss.” Everyone is just stating their opinions. So it really isn’t them “not minding their business.”

  18. Dana

I won’t eat regular spam let alone this stuff

  19. Mommyof71987

This sounds so gross…HARD PASS for me and my family. 🤮🤢

  20. Jennifer

I’m gonna try it! It’s just extra spices on normal spam. I have had spam in years so I think it will be fun for a cheap and nostalgic lunch. Spamburger anyone?

  21. Nancy

My mom used to like Spam every now and then. I never had it…don’t know why I never tried it. I sure won’t be trying it with the pumpkin spices added to it. However, if it floats your boat, go for it. If my mom was still alive, she’d probably enjoy it. She really liked pumpkin spices and she liked Spam. This is just one of those products I’ve never even had a second thought of purchasing while at the grocery store. Who knows? Maybe me and/or my kids would actually like it. Just never gave it a shot. And it sure must sell because it’s been around FOREVER!

    • Nancy

Oh yeah, and my mom used to eat sardines out of the can. She loved them. Something else that I never gave a second thought to while shopping. Maybe you have to have a specific palate for these types of foods.

      • Dana

Sardines in hot sauce! Yes I’m from Louisiana 😂

      • SandraNYC

Sardines in tomato sauce on top of hot white rice! Every Lent!!!

  22. Marie

    🤢🤮

  23. VJ

    Ummm…nope. No way. Uh-uh.

  24. todd

I just threw up on my mouth alittle as I read this.

  25. Liz

I wasn’t raised in the US…so all these meat products in a can has always been odd to me…but i saw a recipe of Spam fried rice and was intrigued….OMG…best fried rice EVER !!! and from stove to dinner table in 20 minutes…but im def not trying Pumpkin flavored anything.

  26. Layla

Spam is my jam! Spam musubi, spam fried rice, spam & eggs.. seriously try it sometime. If you don’t like it then you don’t like it. 🤷🏻‍♀️I’m not sure about the pumpkin though. 😂

  27. Kitty

    No to pumpkin spiced meats

  28. Ivan

I was raised in the South and ate Spam when I was younger. It’s actually pretty good. Just don’t read the label 🙂

  29. Jake

There are lots of regular spiral ham glaze recipes that include cloves and cinnamon. We just don’t call them pumpkin spice ham. I don’t think this is all that new and earth shattering, except for the marketing of it. On a side note: I don’t like those glazes on ham so when I buy one that has the glaze packet, I set it aside and use it as a spiced coffee sweetener. I have what other people might call pumpkin spice coffee throughout the year, but I refer to as “ham coffee.”

  30. Lk

I grew up in Minnesota home of Spam. We had it regularly and actually pumpkin spices doesn’t sound too bad to me. If I can find it I’ll try it.

  31. MARTHA REESE

not a bad idea, its adding some great spices, kinda reminds of Honey spice hams,

  32. Lily

In some other cuisines, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger are primarily used for meat / savory dishes (e.g., Chinese five-spice powder) and provides absolutely delicious flavor, so I can actually see pumpkin spice spam tasting quite good once you get past the marketing.

And for anyone who is grossed out by the idea of cinnamon on meat, just think, this is the exact same reaction that many people have when they hear Americans use cinnamon in sweets! Also, if you’ve ever eaten roasted duck or any type of stewed meat from a Chinese restaurant / Vietnamese broiled chicken, you’ve probably had cinnamon on meat before
