JCPenney Partners with ThredUP | Shop Secondhand Women’s Clothing & Handbags in JCP Stores
JCPenney just announced that 30 of its stores will soon be offering a selection of secondhand women’s clothing and handbags from ThredUP, the world’s largest online consignment store.
Shoppers can expect to find current styles from leading designers and brands at “compelling” prices. Each ThredUP shop will be carefully curated and refreshed weekly to offer an exciting experience for JCPenney shoppers.
Here’s what Michelle Wlazlo, executive vice president and chief merchant for JCPenney, had to say:
With the rise of online resale markets, there’s no doubt that demand for great value on quality brands is at an all-time high. We’re excited about the prospect of creating a new in-store experience that makes high-end brands attainable, as well as catering to eco-minded consumers who want more sustainable options in their wardrobe.
Offering a seasonal assortment of like-new handbags and women’s fashion, the ThredUP collections will be presented in 500-to-1,000 sq. ft. sections of select stores. JCPenney hopes that by shopping ThredUP in a brick-and-mortar store, shoppers will enjoy the opportunity to see, feel and try on items.
Better yet, ThredUP purchases will be eligible to earn JCPenney Rewards.

I’m glad to hear this
Ok I’ve sent sooo many things to thread up and I think it’s great!
BUT… they can be pricey although cute, and with my SAVY shopping ways I can get things for close to nothing, I’ve managed 2 vacations a year and a few getaways because I’m sooo patient and thoroughly check every deal, bargain and coupon I can even if it takes days or weeks I DONT STOP. Im self employed and I’ve managed to cut my week into days and always pay off everything monthly. So no jcpenny or thread up 🙁
Huh?
Good for you girl. 🙂
I love ThredUp but the $1.99 restocking fee is a deterrent so I think this is a great idea! Curious to see how it plays out and whether both brands find it to be a beneficial partnership.
I saw some items in my local store. I was so confused. Hahaha.
I think this is great! Hopefully, it will get more business into the store and boost sales for both.
Thred Up sells on ebay.
Maybe I’m being pessimistic but this screams, “JCPenney going under!” to me. Will be interesting to see if they start announcing store closings after New Years.
Absolutely. It seems like a last ditch effort. I can usually find some great deals at JCP so… they are going to have brand new cloths next to used cloths? No thanks. It just seems like the Thred up stuff will end up in the clearance area in a big mess.
This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen. It’s like going to a garage sale. I will not be participating. Nor do I want to buy clothes or shoes online. This is the idea of a desperate CEO.
I’m not a fan of ThredUp because of the restocking fees and no free return shipping. For this reason, I think Swap.com is a much better value. Not sure how JCPenney fits in with high end consignment… Interesting idea.
They are also partnering with macys too.v
Thred up took a lot of my stuff that I wanted to sell but I also feel they were not entirely honest and kept stuff and didnt sell it and give me credit , items that I KNOW they sold.
I did not realize my JCP was participating until I saw the section today. What.A.Joke. The Thred Up price tags are based on ‘Retails at’. I saw a small cute round purse that was an Etienne Aigner & the tag was $106 & a cute Loft swing dress for $56. No thanks, I will continue going to Goodwill for my bargain name brand finds.
