  2. GWing

I love this type of deal so much! Unfortunately, we are getting to move so I won’t be able to take advantage of it. Please let us know when this happens again!

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

We’ll keep an eye out, GWing! πŸ€— Hoping you have a smooth transition to your next home! πŸ’—

    • MamaBow

GWing if you ever donate any amount, you will then get frequent (probably monthly?) mailers asking for another donation, and offering to send you trees! I’d just go on their website once you have your new address and donate/order some trees😊 Have a safe move.

  3. jane

I am going to receive 1 flowering crabapple, 2 eastern redbuds, 1 Washington hawthorn, 1 white flowering dogwood, 2 crapemyrtles, and 5 Norway spruces. Thank you so much for posting!

***Arbor day is a scam!!!! Last year I donated and 3 months later they sent me an apology stating that they did not have any of the trees that I wanted so they sent me all the same 10 basic trees. But heres the kicker, all 10 so called trees were dried up twigs. They could have at least sent me stems that had a chance of growing.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh bummer! SO sorry to hear the issues with ordering your trees last year. Thanks so much for the heads up on your experience. Were you able to contact them again about the state of the trees you did receive? I did find this in their FAQ if that might be helpful. ❀️❀️

“Your trees are guaranteed to arrive in a good, healthy condition or we’ll replace them at no charge. Our tree seedlings are shipped as dormant bare root seedlings at a suitable time for planting. This means that they are still in their hibernating state from the winter months. Deciduous trees will generally be delivered leafless with a few swollen buds, while Conifers will have needles. To confirm that the trees are alive, lightly scratch the seedling with your thumb nail. This should reveal a living layer of green tissue…your assurance that the seedlings are alive and ready to be planted.”

I did this last year! Because I live in a hot climate (south Texas), I received my tree babies during the winter. After following the instructions to plant them together in the yard, all but 1 has survived and is thriving in the spring temperatures. I was very skeptical since it took so long to receive them, and they were so tiny when they arrived. Just know that they are very small babies when they arrive, and you will need to grow them in a controlled area. I think this is a worthwhile expense for future trees in our yard, but it will be years until they look like trees.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh wow! Thank you so much for explaining the process and how they can take some time to fully mature. Glad that most all of them have survived! πŸ™ŒπŸ’•

  6. B

Please research what you are getting. I ordered this 15 years ago. I ended up with 6 of the 10 trees that had large thorns. I wish I had never planted these trees. My husband hated mowing near these trees. Not kid friendly trees.

  7. Ali Sand

I started filling this out but in the last step, it says trees will begin shipping November 1. That is totally pointless for planting here. Too bad.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Hey Ali! I did find these details in their FAQ on shipment schedules – “To be sure that your trees arrive in a strong and healthy condition, we ship bare root stock only when it is dormant in the fall and spring seasons. Trees are sent according to your local climate and this year’s weather.

Fall Shipping: We have to wait for a couple of hard frosts so the trees go dormant and can be shipped safely. Trees can be planted until the ground is frozen solid. Fall shipments are made between November 1 and December 10.

Spring Shipping: Our trees can be planted during a broad range of weeks or months – from when the frost first leaves the ground through late spring. Spring shipments are made between February 26 and May 30. Please see our shipping schedule.”

There’s also a helpful section about tree planting and care, if this may be helpful! ❀️

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Good question. You could always reach out to be sure as that may vary by region as well. ❀️

  11. Nic

      • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      • Brenda Villeneuve

I just donated and nothing was said about free trees shrubs being sent. Just an email thanking me for the donation. How do you get the freebies?

        • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hey Brenda! When clicking through the link above, I just enter my zip code and then I see the full form, including the free plants available to select for my area. Hoping that’s hepful! πŸ’–

    • Rebe

Me too, even the post states 12. Not bad, but the title is deceiving. Amazing Hip2save team, could you please clarify or edit the post? Thank you! πŸ™‚

  12. Mel M

Do they notify you at the time of donation or later? I donated and they didn’t mention anything about free plants.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

I do see the selection of free plants noted on the form, after you enter your zip code through that link above. Hoping this is helpful! πŸ€—πŸ’–

  13. Heather

I’m in Michigan, and I have an option for 10 trees to be planted in a forest devastated by fire or Summer Cutting Garden (2 Asiatic lilies, 7 mixed gladiolus, 10 corn lilies, 4 Chinchincherees, and 2 Blazing Stars)

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for sharing what trees are offered for your area, Heather! β€οΈπŸ™Œ

    • Bree

I got the same in Texas and looked up corn lilies… apparently they are super toxic. I’d be careful planting.

      • Deanne Gaudiello

d of doubt they would send toxic flowers??I think there’re different corn lilies that arenttoxie.

  14. Hilary

I’m in PA, so I’m getting the Summer Cutting Garden Bulbs with the same items as the New York bundle. Hoping to create a whole garden area to save the bees. Thank you!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Aww, Sounds amazing! You’re welcome, Hilary! 🐝🌺🌻

  15. Supersaver

I just donated and then received a fraud alert from AmEx with a fraudulent charge from Walmart. Never got that before and it was weird right after I donated.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh darn! Sorry to hear that. Hoping it is resolved for you soon! ❀️

  16. Sheena

I just received an email saying they shipped me 10 Norway spruce trees πŸ™ and 2 lilac.. so don’t count on what they tell you.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Darn! Sorry the selection isn’t what you were hoping for, Sheena. πŸ’“

  17. Debbie thompson

they have a notice will ship in 2025 due to exhausting their supply for this year.
