We’ve compiled a list of the best baby shower gifts and baby shower gift ideas for moms, too!

While every woman’s journey into motherhood is different and unique, we found that many of us benefited from many of the same gifts. So if you’re looking for the perfect baby shower gift ideas, look no further! Moms shared their favorite baby shower gifts that they actually wanted and used the most!

First and foremost, just having someone who checks in and shows that they care is a gift of its own for new moms.

Never underestimate the power of a friend. Becoming a new mom has many emotions for every woman. It is reported that 15% of new moms experience Postpartum depression, which can start developing anywhere from 1 week to 1 month after delivery. When they say, “It takes a village”, I’m a first-hand believer that the village starts with mom, and we can’t do this alone, ladies.

Learning how to help someone with postpartum depression or seeking help if you think you’re experiencing postpartum depression can change lives. To find a local support group, head to DBSalliance.org.

And if you’re a momma who is out there struggling, please know we see you, we hear you, we love you, & it’s okay to ask for help. ❤️

“It’s been a long time since I had a newborn, but I do recall wanting someone to ask me how I was doing, how I felt, if I needed anything, etc. Not just asking about the baby. I had PPD (I didn’t realize it until weeks later) and just really needed a friend.” – Cecilia, Hip reader

Here’s something one of my Hip sidekick’s sisters suggests to combat PPD:

“Both my sister and sister-in-law had their placentas dried out and ground up into capsules. They took it in capsule form (or as a tea), but they both swore by this for easing postpartum symptoms.” – Angie, Hip sidekick

Here’s our list of the best baby shower gift ideas according to seasoned moms:

1. An ergonomic nursing pillow takes the weight off a mom’s shoulders and arms during feedings.

mother nursing baby on couch with my breast friend pillow

You don’t need to be a nursing mama to benefit from the perks of a nursing pillow. It’s not only a place to rest your arms while nursing your sweet babe, but also whenever you need some relief while holding them in your arms. Plus, it even provides extra support for little helpers when they want to hold the baby. Better yet, they’re machine washable for longevity.

The My Brest Friend pillow has a buckle strap to allow for more security and mobility, as well as padding in the back to provide comfortable back support. Plus, there’s even a small pocket for your nursing pads, phone, pacifiers, etc. If you’re cautious of materials, it’s even available in organic cotton.

Grab a twin My Brest Friend if you’re expecting double the fun.

2. Silicone bibs are reusable meal after meal & incredibly easy to keep clean.

Before you know it, every new mom’s baby will be eating solid foods, which means she needs to be prepared for many more messes to come. Silicone bibs with pockets catch all the mess, are comfortable to wear, and even have adjustable notches in the back for the perfect fit. Plus, they’re incredibly easy to keep clean (even top-rack dishwasher safe), reusable meal after meal, and easy to take with you on the go!

3. A silicone self-feeder keeps them occupied and is great for teething babies.

Speaking of eating, your little one will love having the ability to feed themselves safely with a silicone self-feeder. It’ll save you time feeding them while you’ve got your hands full or if you’re dealing with a fussy baby while on the go. Not only that, but when you freeze them, they work exceptionally well for teething babies!

This Haakaa feeder is perfect for freezing breast milk or formula.

4. Useful burp cloths will save you from having to do extra laundry.

Burp cloths are a must for new moms so they can protect their clothes from spit-ups and drooling after feedings. These will be especially helpful before they head out with intentions to look put together.

5. Every mom’s breast-pumping journey will be so much easier with a hands-free breast pump.

Willow Breast Pump $349.99

Times have changed! If the mom you’re shopping for plans to pump breast milk at any point, a breast pump can practically become a new part of her body. You might as well make it an experience that’s as easy and comfortable for you as possible! No pumping journey is easy, but the ability to score a hands-free breast pump will leave you almost forgetting you’re even doing it, which is even more ideal for women heading back to work who prefer to remain discreet.

Don’t let a drop of liquid gold go to waste and get a milk catcher!

6. Prop your baby in a functional and versatile seat whenever you need free hands.

Whether it’ll be used as a play area, a place to feed your baby, or simply a space you can set them down to take a load off your arms, having a versatile seat that can pull double-duty in a plethora of ways will be a lifesaver on a daily basis!

7. Dress your new baby in some functional sleepers to make changing hassle-free.

While dressing your new baby to the nines is going to be tempting at all times, trust me when I say your life will be so much easier when you dress them in something much more functional. Especially when it comes to all those midnight-changing sessions.

Ideally, look for knotted nightgowns, zipper sleepers, or open-bottom gowns when shopping for your baby shower gift ideas. Bonus points if they have built-in mittens to keep your little one from inadvertently scratching their face, too.

8. A swaddle or sleepsack mimics the womb and makes your baby feel cozier than ever.

A swaddle or sleep sack is essentially a way to mimic the womb and make your baby feel secure. Plus, most babies love them (especially when sleeping), so they’ll be a great baby shower gift idea! They’re also great for helping keep your baby from scratching themselves while just lounging around their crib.

Don’t plan to swaddle? Consider a sleep sack to help with temperature regulation and a good night’s sleep.

9. New moms can have eyes and ears on their new baby at all times with a baby monitor, which makes for great group baby shower gift ideas, too.

must have baby monitor on display at store baby shower gift ideas

A reliable baby monitor ensures you’re able to safely and securely keep an eye on your baby during nap time, overnight, or any time you need to step away for a moment. There are a lot of baby monitors on the market with different features, including breathing monitoring, Wi-Fi capabilities, and apps that monitor babies using only your existing devices, like your phone, tablet, or even computer!

As another idea, check out this under $55 VTech Baby Monitor – simplicity at its finest. It’s a great option if you’re gifting a baby monitor on your own. This back-to-basics monitor comes with 2 parent units and even has a nightlight that can be remotely shut off.

10. Buy Mom a good jogging stroller that can easily handle every terrain, no matter where she goes.

Strollers are a pretty big ask for a baby shower gift, but it’s something a new mom will use often. A nice jogging stroller will handle every terrain perfectly! Plus, if she keeps it in great condition, she can likely resell it for some extra cash. The Baby Trend shown above is a great, affordable stroller that has all the features you want without the huge price tag.

Strong and durable, this hook is functional for even people who aren’t parents! Simply clip it on your grocery cart, or stroller, or load up all your shopping bags in one convenient place. This hook will be a third hand to have around at all times! Considering the amount of stuff mom will be toting around after she gives birth, she’ll really appreciate this baby shower gift.

Heading out for the day with a baby can often feel like packing for an extended weekend trip. That’s why gifting a fashionable diaper bag for Mom to keep all her essentials organized, her arms comfortable, and her hands totally free is crucial to successful outings. Plus, if Mom already has a toddler running around, she’s going to need both hands at all times anyway.

Shop all diaper bags on Amazon or Target.

14. Wearing a breathable baby carrier will be comfortable for Mom and her baby.

Make sure to consider this baby shower gift idea if you know Mom will be looking to soak up those newborn snuggles at all times once the baby arrives. You’ll be able to go about your day without any interruptions and keep your baby close and cozy at all times.

Plus, there’s no mama out there who didn’t say they love having a snuggly little baby head on their chest to kiss and smell whenever they please. We love the LÍLLÉbaby carrier because you can wear it in 6 different positions for 360-degree babywearing, and it’s suitable from 7-45 lbs.

15. This gaspasser will help relieve gas and colic issues and keep mom’s sanity.

Since babies obviously can’t verbally communicate when they aren’t feeling well, trying to resolve a colic baby’s discomfort can be scary and frustrating. Invented by a pediatric gastroenterologist, Windi the Gasspasser is designed as an instant, natural, and safe relief treatment for colic babies who may have issues passing gas.

16. Plain-colored onesies might seem like boring baby shower gift ideas, but they’re something a new mom will use often.

packages of gerber baby onesies

When it comes to baby must-haves, any seasoned parent will tell you some plain-colored onesies or bodysuits will be a total lifesaver! From using them as layering pieces, for bedtime, or something simple on the hottest summer days, you can never go wrong with stashing these away in the nursery or your new diaper bag.

17. Many seasoned moms said they wouldn’t have survived without a Wubbanub pacifier.

So many new moms swear by Wabbanub pacifiers! These are going to be the best baby shower gifts and she’ll likely use them daily if you know whether she plans on introducing a pacifier to help soothe her little one! Not only do they come in many different types of stuffed animals, but they’re incredibly cute and practical for getting your new baby to take to a pacifier with ease.

18. When the baby has a clogged nose, the Fridababy nose sucker will be everything, so it’s definitely at the top of the list for best baby shower gifts.

Something a new mom may not think about before her new baby is here is the fact that she’ll have to help with boogies. Since babies can’t blow their noses on their own, having an extremely effective way to get rid of their snot will make everyone happier during tough, sick days. And if you were wondering, yes, it’s completely sanitary too. 😂

Nursing Bras 5-Pack $39.99 ($8 each)

Speaking from experience, nursing bras make all the difference in the world. Plus, chances are you won’t fit into your old bras anyway, but even if you do, folding them down and avoiding them from getting milk all over them is a struggle and certainly not ideal. It’s all about comfort, support, coverage, and ease nowadays.

“I don’t think the younger generation realizes how necessary nursing bras are! I had my daughter last year at age 28, and I thought I didn’t need a nursing bra – I’ll just fold down my regular bra. NOPE! Amazon has a great selection.” – Lauren, Hip reader

Or consider a nursing tank that could be worn as a bra too.

Some women experience very minimal leaking when nursing or pumping, while others can’t even get through a grocery store trip without their milk ducts leaking like a fire hose. (Again, speaking from experience here, friends 🤣). Lansinoh is the #1 best seller in disposable nursing pads, and with thousands of 5-star reviews, we’re sure they’ll be loved by new moms.

Want something more Earth-friendly? Shop tons of highly-rated reusable breast pads on Amazon.

While having a new baby is a great excuse to put the phone down, we realize most moms have an endless number of excited friends and family who want to hear the news, too. Gifting an extra-long charging cord is perfect for any new mom you suspect won’t be unplugging much after delivery. This pack we found on Amazon is super affordable and comes with 3, 6, and 10-foot lengths!

Calling all uncles and aunts! Another priceless gift for a new mom (and one that will be greatly appreciated) is having some extra hands to help out. Your help is free and could be the greatest gift of all, whether that means keeping the baby and older siblings occupied while mom showers or helping fold some of that endless clean laundry!

As an idea, you could create a fun coupon and include it in a DIY gift basket or card! Plus, I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t love some fresh baby snuggles so it’s technically a gift for you too. 😉

“I can think of anything more valuable to a new mom than being able to take an uninterrupted shower/nap. Just an extra set of hands for a few hours (especially if you had a c-section) is amazing to have.” – Kelly, Hip reader

27. A good meal, because mom deserves it.

hand holding up brown box with burger inside

After the arrival of your newborn, no matter how they got here, every new mom deserves to indulge in a delicious meal. I know I literally couldn’t wait to get my hands on a juicy burger! So, ask your friend what they want their first meal to be and treat them to something delicious.

“Food is the only thing that matters after having a baby. Plan that sandwich out before you have the baby and have a sandwich doula on standby for when you can eat that delicious sandwich.” – Candice, Hip reader

Speaking of meals, you could also consider prepping some yummy meals for more personal baby shower gift ideas!

plate with viral tiktok feta pasta

There’s no family with a new baby that won’t appreciate some prepped meals. Even if you’re giving this gift to yourself, it’s something you’ll appreciate having in the freezer for those sleepless days and nights…and we suspect there will be plenty more where that came from, so the more meals, the merrier!

“I really regret not making premade meals. It’s exhausting taking care of a newborn baby and older kids, especially when hubby can’t cook to save his life. LOL! It would be so much easier to just pull out a prepared meal, heat it up, and serve!” – Siobhan, Hip reader

I love this list! The period undwear is fantastic, and will last much longer than postpartum! One idea for the plain onsies we did at a shower: the dads watched the older siblings/cousins, etc, and had the kids use fabric markers on the plain white onsies to make decorated shirts for the new baby. They were fun and cute, and all of the kids liked to see the baby wear the one they made.

    • Trish (Hip Sidekick)

So glad you enjoyed this list, Corey! 🤗 Such a fun idea to let the older kids decorate onesies with fabric markers! I love that! Thanks for sharing! 🥰 ❤️

  2. hckysg

Might I add a stackable formula dispenser for non-breastfeeding mommas—less messy while out and about.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for that suggestion! I had one of those too and found it to be most helpful!
