Fashion insiders expect the secondhand market to grow 11 times faster than traditional retail by 2025, and Pacsun’s target demographic of younger shoppers is fueling this shift. Data from thredUP’s 2021 Resale Report shows that over 50% of millennials and Gen Z plan to spend more on secondhand purchases in the next five years.
This is such a great idea as my child loves PacSun…..HOWEVER, I had questions about ThredUp. I would suggest you read online reviews about ThredUp first. I am skeptical since people have claimed to send in what they deem good quality, high end, brand name items and either not gotten anything, or gotten next to nothing for it. If that is the case, you may be better off donating the items. I know that they are in the business to make money, but the more recent reviews I saw were disappointing.
Anyone have any personal experiences with ThredUp that they would like to share? I’d be curious hearing about them.
Yes, I think you are correct. I was disappointed in the small amount of money I received for brand name clothing in great condition. It wasn’t worth the work that went into it.
I knew someone who gave lots of expensive items to threadup. They claimed the package was âlostâ and all they gave her was a 30% off coupon to their site! Beware!
Yes. They straight up stole from me. 2 stuffed full bags of Nordstrom brand clothing (Paige jeans, splendid, free people, Ralph Lauren, aviator nation)
But gave me $41 for gap jeans and skirts?
It felt like in college when roommates stole my clothes.
I would not recommend them. Only do it if you donât want to get paid.

I suppose they could always say they didn’t get it, or reduce the price (value – less shipping they paid) and then if they sell it, you would never know…..or if they don’t use it and donate the items THEY get the write off. Shady sounding….. In any event, sounds like a big scam.

I did it when threadup first started and never did it again so it must have been a huge pain and not worth it. Our local store is the same. They give you next to nothing and the time commitment it takes isn’t worth it either. I love these types of stores for buying (when it is reasonable for used clothing, lately the prices are a bit shocking) but when it comes to actually trying to sell stuff to them it isn’t worth it. I know they need to make money but still….
Thanks for sharing. I was seriously considering Thred Up, but I just haven’t had the time to really look into it. I usually make bundles and put it on FB marketplace.
I always get about $40-55 per 30# box I send in – which is supper simple to shove in a box and add an label. better then 0 when i just dump everything
