“With anything that takes some time to see results, the best time to buy and start using it is months ago. The second best time is right now. I’ve been using the Lumi every week for about 7 weeks now and I’m starting to see some results. That may seem long to some, but keep in mind any at-home IPL machine is going to take longer than what you get in a med spa office. They are also much more affordable and less painful than going to an office too.
I use it on my legs, underarms, and bikini area on a level 5 setting (the highest setting is 6) every time I shave. At first, I was using a level 2 or 3, and I honestly couldn’t feel anything. With a level 5, it feels like a small rubberband is being lightly snapped on my skin. It’s not really painful, it’s more of a light shock, and it’s certainly not anything that would prevent me from wanting to keep using it for hair removal treatments. That said, level 6 might be too much for me so the 5 is perfect.
I love using the exfoliating glove beforehand too as it buffs off any dead skin and releases any ingrown hairs before I shave and follow up with the Lumi. It’s also been great for my pre-self-tanner application routine too!
I was hesitant on the efficacy of this IPL device as I had tried a much cheaper one year ago from Amazon with a similar approach, but I never started seeing results so I got easily discouraged. But with this one, I’m starting to see patches of hair not growing back in which is SO exciting! I started in mid-February so I believe the best time to start the laser hair removal process is pre-summer, so if you were to start right now, you’ll be seeing results by the beginning of bathing suit season.
