What is Sling TV?

If you’re unfamiliar with Sling, it is the first app-based TV service that gives you the flexibility to stream live television and on-demand content. It’s super convenient to start using right away as their app is supported by the most popular brands of smart TVs and streaming devices including Fire TV, iOS or Android devices, ROKU, Chromecast, XBOX, and more.

Even better each paid Sling TV package includes 50 hours of cloud-based DVR storage so you never have to worry about missing your favorite live TV shows. If that’s not enough, you can always update to DVR Plus and get 200 hours for just $5 extra per month!

You can also easily purchase extra channels and premium add-ons to fully customize your monthly Sling TV subscription to meet your family’s ever-changing entertainment needs. Plus, a couple of their packages allow you to stream on multiple devices at the same time.

Let’s take a closer look at the packages Sling offers…

Sling TV Orange Subscription
Only $15 for the first month (regularly $40)!

With the Orange Package, you’ll receive 31 channels geared toward college football and family content. This includes the Disney Channel and 3 ESPN Channels, 50 hours of DVR cloud storage, and streaming on one device.

Sling TV Blue Subscription

With the Blue Package, you’ll get 42 channels geared toward pro football and news outlets like NBC, FOX, and MSNBC. Plus, you can stream on up to 3 devices at once.

Only $30 for the first month (regularly $55)

Can’t decide? Get the best of both worlds and opt for their Orange & Blue Package! Get everything both packages have to offer and stream on up to 4 devices at the same time.

You can cancel at any time online or in the app. Your subscription will remain active for the remainder of the billing month.

Check out what a couple of our team members had to say about Sling TV…

After our YouTube TV bill went up another $10 to over $80/month I went looking for something else and found a deal on SlingTV. I like the extra channels I get that I did not get with YouTube TV – like extra comedy stations and you can also pick packages like pay a little more for scary channels or multiple AMC channels etc. The only thing I don’t like is the DVR only holds up to 50 hours whereas YouTube was as much as you’d like. BUT since it’s $30 cheaper a month than YouTube TV I’ll live with that! – Hip Sidekick, Jessica

My boyfriend has Sling and another cool perk I love is the on-demand options. I canceled my Discovery Plus membership but I can watch all my favorite true crime shows via Sling on demand! – Hip Sidekick, Monica

Looks like you can only use the free streaming service if you have an Android and not an Apple Ipad or Iphone. Only option I see is to download from Google play? Anyone see know for sure?? Thanks

    • Jennie

I figured it out, I had to use google as my search engine and not safari and it let me download the app. Thanks for sharing this with us !!!

      • Alli (Hip Sidekick)

So glad you were able to find it, Jennie!

Cutting the cord a few years ago was the best financial decision we made for our family. We don’t miss our satellite bill and there is always something to watch through our antenna or on Roku. Thank you Sling for offering this free version, it is great!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Yay! Happy you and your family have been so happy with it, Karen! Thanks for sharing how well it has worked out for you! 🙌❤️

    • EileenL

I hope its ok to ask this question here –
I have been researching cutting the cord/options. May I ask what brand antenna you suggest? Also, what are you doing for landline, and internet….thanks

      • Karen

        Hi Eileen,

We use a Mohu Arc Pro Indoor Amplified Antenna and also a GE Amplified Indoor Antenna. I paid over $50 for the Mohu, and only $23 for the GE antenna at Dollar General. The GE Amplified Indoor Antenna works awesome. We bought Roku devices for each of our 5 TVs. Our internet service is through our local phone company TDS Telecom. We have a landline and also use cell phones. I only pay for Netflix and Peacock. We recently discovered Tubi and this streaming app is awesome and free.

Can I watch local news stations with any of these….I’m in Atlanta

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Hey there, Rn404. When checking into this, I received the message – “Channel availability is dependent on your location. Please enter your billing ZIP code to check your area’s lineup.” You might click through the link to enter your zip code to be sure about availability. It does look like you can customize your package with add-ons too. 💞

For the free “with ads” option, does anyone know if the Hallmark channel is included?

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Hey melbeezie. 🤗 I signed up for an account to check on this, and found the add-on for Hallmark is priced at $6/month for the “Hallmark Movies Now” subscription, with no long-term commitment. Hope that helps! 💞

      • melbeezie

How sweet of you to do all of that work to answer my question!! Thank you so much for checking. You all are THE best!🥳

        • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

You’re very welcome, happy to help!! ❤️ I was super surprised to see the variety of shows and channels available – and that you don’t need a credit card on file when you sign-up. 🙌 If you’re interested in adding another option to your streaming rotation, I’d definitely check this one out! 🤗
