We have 10 great tips for saving on Staples school supplies!

1. Sign up for Staples Easy Rewards.
The Staples Easy Rewards program is free to join, and by signing up, you’ll be entitled to special savings and perks that you can use to save on back-to-school shopping. Members earn 1 point for every $1 spent. You can choose up to 3 bonus categories to earn 2x the amount of points, and your points never expire for active members. You can also earn additional points when you recycle your unwanted tech, ink & toner, and more.
HIP TIP: Watch your email! When you sign up for rewards, you can opt in to receive coupons and special offers. Some of our readers have reported getting high-value coupons ranging from $5 – $10 off a $10 purchase! Sweet!
2. Recycle old school supplies to score rewards points!
Did you know that you can score rewards points when you recycle school supplies, including backpacks, lunch bags, pencil pouches (soft and hard case), writing instruments, rulers, empty glue bottles/sticks, binders, and tech items.
Note that there are some exclusions, and store managers have the right to deny items.
3. Find teachers’ supply lists online.
Staples lets schools and teachers share their supply lists on the Staples website. These are such an easy way to see exactly what your child will need for the new school year.
4. Watch for Staples school supplies priced at 25¢ or less.
Although Staples discontinued the 1¢ back-to-school deals they used to offer, you can still find select school supplies for only 25¢ or less each week! Continue to check back as these sales can change from week to week, and if you shop each sale, you’ll likely score some hot deals on all the supplies you need!
5. Make sure you’re getting a great price.
Download our FREE printable School Supply Price Point List (which will be updated soon) as a quick reference while you’re shopping, so you’ll know for sure whether you’ve found a great price (or whether you should hold out for a better deal)!

6. Check the clearance section.
Most Staples locations have a clearance section in the back of the store, where items are added throughout the week. Clearance items will be marked with yellow tags and show the final price after all markdowns.
If you venture beyond the back-to-school section, you may find a better deal on an item that Staples carries year-round. For example, highlighters sold in the aisle with other writing instruments may be less expensive than those sold up front with the back-to-school supplies. It doesn’t hurt to look!
Either way, remember to refer to our School Supply Price Points list to make sure you’ve truly found a great deal.
7. Shop with discounted gift cards.
Check CardCash or Raise.com for Staples gift cards before you start your back-to-school shopping. Although discounts can vary from day to day, we usually see the Staples gift cards selling for 2 – 5% less than face value. Every little bit helps!
8. Use Staples’ 100% Price-Match Guarantee.
If you find a lower price on an identical item in-store, simply show it to a Staples associate, and they’ll match the price. Take the other retailer’s weekly ad with you, or use your phone to compare prices as you shop in-store.

9. Get $10 off if they’re out of the ink or toner you need.
Staples has an Ink & Toner Guarantee that promises they’ll have your inkjet or toner cartridge in stock. If the cartridge is currently stocked in-store but is out of stock at the time of your visit, they’ll get it to you with free delivery and a $10 discount. How cool is that?!
10. Take advantage of the store’s 30-minute pickup.
Save time with BOPIS (Buy Online, Pickup In-Store)! Staples’ pickup is a great solution for families with a minivan full of reluctant shoppers, or anyone else who’s pressed for time. Most stores offer free curbside pickup too!
Do your shopping online, wait for a confirmation email, and head to the store with the email and your ID. That was easy! 😉
Not sure what your kiddo needs for school this year? Use their school supply list finder! Enter your zip code, then choose the school and grade level to find your school supply lists and make shopping easier!
📦 Shipping is free on orders of $35+ or on all ink and toner orders. Otherwise, it adds $9.95. Free store pickup may also be available.

Thanks. When I try to order the gel pens, they are for delivery only, which means a delivery fee. 🙁
But I love the staples deals.
Darn! Thanks for sharing what you’re seeing, Rebecca! This can vary by location.
Rebecca, I added the white version to my cart, got the discount, and it did not charge me for shipping even though it said delivery to home. Not sure if it was a glitch, but you might want to try!
Thanks a bunch for the helpful comment, Ashley! 🤗
Same for me. It had shipping until I entered the coupon. Hope it works for you!
Rebecca, I added the .25 folder suggested above and the pens. I selected store p/u for the folder and the pens seem to have free delivery because my total was .28 with tax. When I tried to buy it w/ another item (crayons) it was charging shipping. It seems the folders are the only cheap thing to add for store pick up. Hope this helps!
Thanks so much for sharing what worked best for you!
I’ve been picking up the free items to add to the goody bags for the great-niece and nephew.
What a fun idea, Ann! Those freebies will make such great little additions to their goody bags! Thanks so much for sharing your creative way to put these deals to good use! 💕
I grabbed this deal, as well as 50 composition notebooks and 50 spiral bound notebooks and sent it for a teachers list for low income students. Thank you for helping us make a difference!
That’s awesome! You’re very welcome, Renee! 🥰
It wanted to charge me 9.95 for shipping the sharpies and folder. Thanks anyway.
Darn. Thanks for letting us know Rose. 💕
