How to Thank Your Delivery Person During the Holidays

Order gifts online over the holidays?

If you’re like me and do the majority of your holiday shopping online, then most likely the packages have already started piling up. Today I’m sharing a fun and easy way to say THANK YOU to those hardworking delivery drivers! They’re an important part of making the holidays run smoother for everyone, and they definitely deserve our appreciation and a nice shout out. ❤️

How to Thank Your Delivery Person During the Holidays

Thank a delivery driver with snacks!!

Consider putting a small basket of refreshments on your doorstep for a delivery person to grab and go as they drop off packages at your home! I’ve even designed a nice FREE printable sign you can place in the basket that lets delivery drivers know to take a snack. It’s just a small act of kindness that can brighten someone’s day and can help fuel a driver’s energy.

How to Thank Your Delivery Person During the Holidays

So far, my basket is a success!

On a personal note, this basket has been on my porch the last couple days, and every delivery person has taken a snack! This one as you can see was around 8 pm. He dropped off the box and took a snack and drink. It’s actually been really FUN to watch and hear on our outdoor Nest camera. One FedEx person kept saying “WOW!’ and “Thank You!” 😍

I LOVE this idea!! Thank you for sharing.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      You’re welcome! I do too!

  2. Sarah

Thanks for the printable! That’s an awesome idea. My husband drives for UPS and is exhausted this time of year, and they don’t have time to take a lunch so this is great! I need to get my act together and do it for all of the deliveries I’ve been ordering.

    • Amber

Mine too! And every time I pick up a package off of my porch, I remember that I need to get this done!

  3. Mios3

I’m going to put one together tonight!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Yes!! I love it!

  4. Jaclyn Ferguson

Put mine out yesterday and my mailman left a thank you note on some junk mail. They definitely appreciate it.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Aw that’s so sweet!

  5. Julie

Dang it! I forgot to do this again this year. Most of my shopping is done (Thanks Hip2Save for helping me find all of the deal early!). Could you remind us of this next year in early November, please? 😉 lol

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

You bet! And good for you Julie!

    • Samantha

Exactly what you said! Early November next year! I’m all done shopping already! 😝

  6. SquishyShelli

I started doing this last year!! I have had a basket out since Thanksgiving weekend and it has been very well received! Just today, a FedEx driver was so blown away by it. He said that in 20 years of making deliveries, he had never seen anything like it. I love being able to leave that little thank you out there for the hard workers!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      That’s awesome! I agree it’s so much appreciated ❤️

  7. Sahara Viola

Unfortunately living where I do I cannot leave anything on my stoop. However making individual snack bags which includes bottled water and print the thank you on labels that I can stick on the bags and actually hand to the delivery person.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Wow! That’s so great! Thanks for sharing that idea ❤️

    • Bunny

Me too Sahara. We have lots of “porch pirates” in our neighborhood. Sadly, it would be gone before I could say “boo”.

  8. Sara

This is my third year doing this. They are always so thankful. I got a thank you and a 2019 UPS calendar. I leave water or propel and then some candy junk, little Debbie Christmas snacks, but the thing they take the most is baggies of pretzels.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Great ideas – I love this!

  9. Kristy

Last year I grabbed some holiday themed candy gifts from Target during a sale. I just run outside when I hear the UPS or mail truck cause I’m in sunny Florida where chocolate is still melting even this time of year 😂

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Nice! Haha I can relate since I’m in AZ but it’s been cooler this week 😀

    • Shannon

In the Midwest it would be a bottle of ice or frozen coke! We are in a deep freeze! Brrrr

      • Rensife

Same here! Deep freeze. Also I go round and round with a squirrel. He would have a field day with crackers. He’s one up on me right now. Squirrel 3 ren 2. What can u do??

        • koffe

I am in Midwest too and probably water bottle is not good idea. Squirrel are looking for foods so How about we put a box with a lid or can of empty popcorn..I think that would help.

  10. Becky

I love this idea! I started doing this last year. This year I put it out the beginning of November because I was doing so much shopping. Lol

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Ha! That’s awesome ❤️

  11. Grateful Mama

I love this idea! Unfortunately with the weather in the area I live in (it’s cold rain constantly this time of year mixed with ice and/or snow) I’m afraid it would all get ruined ☹️

Also, on a side note I love this site. Not only are there tons of great deals there are so many creative and thoughtful ideas. I honestly don’t know how I couldn’t have made Christmas happen this year without this website. My husband and I got hit with some wicked medical bills and we’re struggling now more than ever. Without the amazing deals on this site and the generous sharing of coupon codes from users I don’t know where I would be. I have managed to get my girls new clothes (which they need) and a handful of toys (which they want) for Christmas. Thank you to everyone here who has posted a coupon code they weren’t gonna use. That 20% off may not be much to some, but others of us it’s the difference we need.

In the spirit of giving back I was going through emails and I have a couple Shutterfly codes I can’t use. Their shipping is just too much to justify. If anyone can use them I’d be happy to pay it forward. I have a calendar code and a 50% off your order.

Couponjedi22@gmail.com if there is anyone who can use these.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Aw thanks so much for your kind words about Hip2Save. I know I can speak for everyone here that we LOVE our readers so much and appreciate the time you all spend on the site. Merry Christmas and I love your generosity with the codes! ❤️

    • Bunny

Hi Grateful Mama. I have several Bath & Body Works coupons if you need them! Let me know!

    • flora

      Hi Grateful Mama,
Maybe instead of an open basket, you could use a clear plastic bin with a lid? For the sign you can either laminate it (if you have a laminator) or just use packing tape on both sides.

      • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

        What a great tip!!

  12. Suzanne

LOVE this idea!! I was just trying to think of a way to say “thank you” to our delivery drivers. Our UPS man is an older gentleman so sweet. And our USPS lady always takes a moment to say “hi” to our little one when she comes to the door.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Thanks Susanne! I agree it’s a wonderful gesture 👍

  13. Tonya

I tried this last year and hardly any of the treats were taken! Maybe they don’t trust me 😂

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

LOL aw that was a nice gesture though!

    • christina

The only thing I can think of is that maybe the delivery person might have special dietary restrictions or a special diet.

  14. Joy

    Love this!

  15. Suzanne H

What a wonderful idea! I will have to do this. I wish I had thought to do it sooner as most of my packages have arrived by now but even if just a couple of folks benefit, that’s okay.

  16. Marie

I love this so much! I order stuff all the time (moreso in the last few years that I’ve become such an H2S junkie lol) and I live on a third floor walk-up. I’m going out tonight to put this together. Thank you for all you do. 🙂

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

yay! That’s great Marie! Thanks for stopping by today!

  17. Chris

I started doing this last year and it’s very well received. I always get a little thrill every time I hear someone rustling through the snacks!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh my gosh!! Ha me too ❤️

  18. Lexy

Unfortunately my delivery drivers don’t even ring the door bell or knock the door 🚪 at least 😒

  19. Jill W.

As a former delivery driver, I can tell you, I was so grateful for a thank you or any kind gesture this time of year. I drove for 2 years and it was the hardest job I had in 35 years of working in a variety of jobs/careers. Thank you for the suggestion!

  20. LuvtoSave

Like others I too love this!! Thanks guys!! This is what Christmas is all about. Kudos!!

  21. ana

This is making me cry.. My dad died a year ago of dementia. He struggled so much but I would go to his house and we would go for walks and hang out. He would always get the garbage and recycling mixed up but I would’ve never said anything. Neither did the garbage man 🙂 He would run to the fridge when he heard the truck coming and grab him a bottle of soda. It was so important to my dad and I know the garbage man loved it:) (even though the garbage was not in the right bins)

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Ah I’m so sorry for your loss. He’s sounds like a sweet man. Those are nice memories ❤️

      • ana

        Thank you very much❤

  22. Erin

My husband is a UPS driver and really appreciates these simple gestures, so do the guys who deliver to my house (they get spoiled).

  23. Ann

I would include amazon delivery at the sign because they often use people from everywhere not only usps, Fedex or UPS

    • riss

Yes. I was gonna say the same. OnTrac delivery people, too.

    • Valerie

I deliver for amazon! Sometimes we’re out in the middle of no where and gas stations are scarce. These boxes have saved us a few times. Thanks for thinking of us! ❤️

    • J

how about putting “hi, delivery drivers!” And not specifying? 😊

  24. Missy

    LOVE!

  25. Karen

Fabulous idea! I’m making mine now😍🎅🏻

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Yay! That is great news!

  26. susan

I LOVE this idea but how do you keep critters from getting at the food? I imagine I could just do bottled drinks but wondering if anyone has any ideas. Thanks!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Hmm well I definitely put the basket inside late night. Seems fine during the day.

    • Sally

I am wondering the same! I ordered Frango chocolates a few weeks back after seeing a deal here and by the time I got home the day they were delivered all of the chocolates in two boxes had been eaten (they were only out about an hour)! There must have been a very sick squirrel somewhere…

  27. Bash

I need this! I had a driver pop up after 8 p.m. last night when I was opening a very large Amazon package on my porch (in my p.j.s) because I can’t lift anything heavy after recent surgery. After he saw me jump (and yelp) with fright, he offered to carry the box inside for me. Amazing!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Aw how sweet!

  28. Erika

Thank you so much for this! My husband drives for FedEx and this time of year (starting the week before Thanksgiving through the new year) is exhausting for him. Feeling appreciated definitely helps, especially when the drivers are burnt out and tired from the heavy loads and long hours. Thank you Hip2Save, for ALL you do!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Oh I bet! Merry Christmas!

  29. Going2AI

    Love this! Thank you!!

  30. Joanie

    Love love this!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Thanks Joanie!

  31. Michele

I love this! I will definitely put some snacks out for our driver although they may be frozen when he arrives! 🙁

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Ha! Well perfect to keep water cold 😀

  32. Shannon

I love this idea so much! Thanks to you guys for all you do. We have had a rough year and our tree is pretty bare but I’m thankful that I was able to get my kids some of the things on their list thanks to this site! They are aware and have low expectations but I think they will all be pretty happy!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Aw we are so grateful for you Shannon! Wishing you and your family a beautiful holiday,

    • Alllison

Hugs! I hope things look up for you soon!

  33. lee Watts

Last year we started doing something like this. We make little treat bags eith those small kid size bottles of water and put some candy it snacks in it. This year we also put on a plastic candy cane ornament. My 4 yr old lives handing them out. We make enough for out postal worker, the two men who pick up trash, and then a few extras for FedEx and ups drivers.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

That is so thoughtful! I love that you had your son involved! Cute!

  34. Rebecca

I love this idea!! Thank you for the printable and all the hard work YOU GUYS put in this time of year, too!!!❤

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Thanks Rebecca!!

  35. Pam

    Great idea! Thanks for sharing.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      You’re welcome!

  36. barb

Love this idea!!! Thank you, I just printed my sign and now I’m going to run and get some goodies to fill my basket! What a wonderful idea, I have had so many packages already delivered, but I know I have a few more stragglers out there as I keep finding all these amazing deals on H2S – so my shopping is really never done, lol!! I just love this, I can’t wait to give back to all these wonderful delivery drivers!!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh my goodness I love your enthusiasm! Thanks Barb!

  37. Jstbeachy

Ive done this for several years
Oddly in Northern California the FedEx and OnTrac(Amazon & Sephora delivery)Driver’s don’t take anything may be against policy
However the USPS and UPS do they are so thankful 🙂

  38. Sara

I put my goodie box out right after Black Friday. Though not every delivery person has taken something, a lot have! Big hits have been small Gatorade bottles, water and planters peanuts. I’ve got KIND bars, chips, granola bars a little bowl of candy. This is. Y second year doing it and I love when I bring the box in at the end of the night to see what was taken.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      That’s so great Sara!!

  39. smellyann

Awww, love the feedback you got from your FedEx person! This is the BEST idea ever. So going to do this!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Yay!! That’s so great!

  40. Mel

I put a basket (with things like Izze, Larabars, etc…) out a couple weeks ago, and yes, it has been well received!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Yay! That’s great to hear!

  41. Andrea

I love this! I am going to do this for our drivers. Our Fed Ex driver leaves a dog treat for our dog on our packages so now I can leave a treat for him!

  42. mamarenie

Our post office guy stinks! He refuses to deliver packages to the last seven houses in our neighborhood. Idk why?? But he won’t and nothing is done about it! Ridiculous! I’d like to leave him a note with a dog turd! 💩🤬🤯😤💩

  43. LeeAnn

Started this the first time I ordered a package in November.
My drivers love it and leave notes thanking me.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      That is fantastic!!

  44. Laura

Just a thought…my kids often have candy they don’t really like that they receive for Halloween. I am thinking I might save those items for the goody basket (along with healthy stuff!). Small hit of sugar is probably well enjoyed with all the physical labor that most delivery people do with the long days. It won’t cost me anything and it will be another goody to add to the pile.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Great idea!

  45. Bonnie

Yes I started doing this last year & got a very nice thank you letter from the ups guys.
I have my box of goodies out starting the 1st of December. This is a terrific idea for everyone who gets deliveries.
Love this sign thanks for sharing it.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Thanks so much Bonnie!

  46. Ramona Corvin-Brown

I have been doing this for years and the drivers really do appreciate it.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      That’s great! Thanks Ramona!

  47. MaineMom

Suggestions for cold weather? Especially drinks? I live in Central Maine where it’s 20-30 degrees sometimes colder. Water would freeze. Thanks

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

I know others have done a cooler without ice, or covered bin. Not sure if it will still freeze. I live in hot weather, so I’m no help lol

  48. Tina S.

Love this idea! I set everything up after reading and am excited to put out my box. I used a small plastic box (the kind you can put shoes in to store). I taped the print out on the lid. I have some unused paint stir sticks so I taped that to the back of the lid so that it sticks up above the stuff inside the box. I put in water bottles, M&M fun packs, trail mix, cookies, mini candy bars and a couple of clementines. Thanks for such a good idea and the print out is precious!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

I love your ideas! Good call on the oranges! Yay!

  49. Amita

This is so sweet and thoughtful and very human of you to care for people.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Thanks Amita!

  50. Kirsten

Thank you for doing this and reminding people. My husband is a mailman and let me tell you it is a long, hard job. He starts work at 7:30am and then hasn’t been coming home till after 10pm almost every night. Some of them are working 7 days a week too because they now deliver on Sunday because of Amazon. Management is not that nice and are constantly on their case to go faster. He barely has time to breath. In fact last year I did this and I put snacks and candy along with pop and water bottles in there and each day the pop and water sat there. I said something to my husband that the pop and water was never taken. He then said that it was because they just don’t have time to go to the bathroom so they can’t drink. I know it’s not cold everywhere but here in Utah it’s quite cold and they are working quite a bit of time each day in the bitter cold and dark delivering mail. Really a little treat like this goes a long ways!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Well thank him on behalf of everyone! What an important job. I have a family member who is a mail carrier in Utah – small world! Anyway, Merry Christmas Kirsten to you and your family!
