The TikTok Ban Is Messing w/ Our Emotions – And It’s Back (For Now)…
The TikTok ban and what’s currently happening…
Have you heard the latest about TikTok?
After a brief outage on Sunday, January 19th, 2025, TikTok is back in business! At least for now…
President-elect Donald Trump has announced his intention to issue an executive order on January 20, 2025, to temporarily pause the federal ban on TikTok, allowing the app to restore its services in the United States.
This pause is intended to provide additional time for ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, to negotiate a sale of its U.S. operations to an American entity, addressing national security concerns.
The exact timeline for a final decision on the TikTok ban remains uncertain, as it depends on the progress and outcome of these negotiations.
We polled our Hip team to see how they feel about the TikTok ban…
Approximately 62% of our Hip sidekicks said they’d be extremely disappointed with a permanent TikTok ban whereas the other 29% of Hip sidekicks said they’d be excited if it got booted for good. The other 14% are undecided.
That said, our very own Hip CEO & Founder, Collin, said she’s somewhat hopeful of a permanent TikTok ban.
“I’m genuinely relieved at the thought of a TikTok going away. It’s not just about the app—it’s about the impact it has on my daughter and so many teens out there. The endless scrolling, constant comparisons, and overthinking are taking a toll on their mental health and self-esteem. I see how it affects her, creating unnecessary pressure and distractions. The ban feels like an opportunity to step away from that noise, giving her a chance to focus on what really matters and reconnect with the world outside the screen.” – Collin
Are you following us on TikTok?
With so much unknown, we hope you’ll join us on our other social platforms if you’re only following us on TikTok…because who knows what’s going to happen! We don’t want to lose touch with a single, valued follower.
Here’s where you can follow us in the chance TikTok vanishes forever:
It’s wild to think about TikTok being banned for good, but honestly, there’s a case to be made that less social media might not be the worst thing…
Research shows how too much screen time, especially on apps like TikTok, can mess with our mental health. Social media often feeds comparison, anxiety, and even depression, especially in younger users. A little forced detox might actually do us some good.
If you’re curious about the impact of social media on mental health, we recommend checking out The Anxious Generation on Amazon (just 99¢ with an Audible Membership)!
It’s a highly-rated bestseller that dives deep into how constant connectivity has shaped the mental state of today’s youth. The book doesn’t just highlight the problems, it also offers tips for developing a healthier balance.
So, maybe a permanent TikTok ban could be for the better good. Where do you stand on this topic? Let us know in the comments!
I remember back in the mid 2000s when cell phones were 1st popular being scared of my teens having a phone with a camera. Social media was out of the question. Now the whole world is on every platform there is and you no longer follow your friends and family you follow the whole world. It won’t hurt my feelings to take a break…
I hope it get banned! It’s creating a lot of obnoxious, self-absorbed narcissists that desperately crave attention.
Agreed!
💯
I’ve learned so much from it. We need a safe US version.
Better yet, how bout ban all social media! We’ll just text and email each other lol
Tbh, I miss the Elf bowling spam games lol
The algorithms on TikTok are very detrimental, especially to children. Bye bye.
It’s weird to hope it gets banned when all you have to do is literally not download it and it doesn’t affect you.
I think the talk of a ban is just a distraction from something they don’t want us to pay attention to.
Look here, not there.
I don’t think TikTok should be banned. If you make the choice to download the app, you should be responsible for your actions
I’m with you, Collin
It’s just getting replaced with Rednote. Nobody is staying off social media .. we’re too deep in.
If it weren’t owned by China, it wouldn’t be an issue. China collecting info on Americans is a problem.
Get rid of it. People getting their new from tiktok is a problem…

Tik Tok has it’s flaws, but I think the good far outweighs the bad. I have seen special needs mom get the support they desperately need when they can’t leave their homes to make friends. I have seen information being shared to teach each other hacks. I have seen suicidal people being talked down by others who understand. I have seen grieving parents receive love from other bereaved parents. I have seen far more love and unity than hate i see on other social media. I have seen human connection in a time we all desperately needed it. At least that’s my TikTok experience. So I’m really sad and worried about all of us that need that village because we don’t have one in every day life. Some just aren’t that lucky.
We have US based social media platforms. 🙏🏼
So glad it’s getting banned! 🙌🏼 I don’t have TikTok and I don’t care for it but friends and family constantly send me TikTok’s (that I can’t see unless I download the app! And ya that’s not happening!). I’ve asked them not to send them bc I can’t see them but apparently thier brains are TikTok mush bc they still send them. 🤦🏻♀️ I’m constantly having to delete these moronic TikToks from my msgs and I will be sooooooo glad when this is no longer an issue. And yes I’ve muted, silenced and blocked f&f that were chronic senders of that nonsense. And for ppl saying they’ve learned a lot… there’s books and YouTube. Most things on TikTok are fake anyways. Its ppl wanting attention, likes & views in order to get a paycheck. Most of those hacks aren’t even hacks.
Lol sorry if this sounds rude but I am so tired of so many ppl I know making such a big deal about it going away. It’s almost like they feel the world is going to end without it. 🙄
I have mixed emotions. I like the recipes and couponing and following friends but then I have seen some more than inappropriate things on there.
I hope it gets banned as well. I read The Anxious Generation and I see what it is doing to kids. I love TikTok, but I’m willing to give it up for sure. I’m with Collin.
