Stay safe from bugs, literally!

I love this natural and organic bug repellent that’s packed full of amazing smelling essential oils! The best part? It really works!

Summer means bugs, but that doesn’t mean you need to spray on toxic & horrible smelling bug repellent to keep bugs away, here’s the best natural product that is an outdoor lover’s dream come true!

I’m obsessed with Sallye Ander’s “No Bite Me” bug repellent!

I don’t know about you, but I would rather risk getting eaten alive by mosquitoes instead of spraying myself and my kids with some nasty smelling, oily, & toxic bug spray.

…that’s until I discovered this all-natural & organic bug repellent!

I will admit, I was totally skeptical of this at first – I received it as a gift (Thanks, Mom!) and thought for sure there’s no way it would work – any bug repellent should have to smell horrible to keep even the most tedious bugs away, right?! 🤔

Well, I was totally wrong!

Since bugs tend to seek me out all summer long, I ended up bringing this bug repellent along with me when I traveled to Mexico last summer. It’s effective on black flies, mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks so it was totally coming with! It was even the perfect size for traveling in my carry-on so I didn’t even need to check my bag. 🙌

Even better, I was looking for any reason to put it on during my whole trip because it smells SO good! In fact, I had literally used the whole jar the day before coming back from my vaca – and of course, I ended up with ALL the mosquito bites after that 😫. But… at least I could say I know it definitely works! (And I’ve been using it ever since!)

It’s totally safe for kids, too!

If you’ve been a reader here for long enough, you know that I love products that are great for the planet and safe to use on your body, so this bug repellent is a HUGE winner in my book.

It’s DEET free, organic, hypoallergenic, made with edible ingredients (although I don’t recommend eating it haha!), free of palm oil, never tested on animals, safe for the Earth, infant-safe, and you can even use it in your hair!

Already have a mosquito bite… or lots of bites? This repellent is also great for providing relief and soothing after-bites. Plus, just a little bit goes a long way, so you totally get your money’s worth despite its small size.

Now, let’s talk about how great it smells…

This fragrant bug repellent smells incredible – even my kids look for an excuse to wear it. I also really appreciate how wonderful it smells since I don’t wear any perfume and it’s a nice scent to throw on when you’re outside.

Their aromatic repellent is a blend of essentials oils including cedar, mint, lemongrass, geranium, clove, thyme, rosemary, and eugenol. And the scent lasts up to 4 hours!

Speaking of how long it last, the application is super easy, too. You don’t have to deal with spraying on any cold liquid. Instead, all you do is use your finger to get a dot of this whipped lotion, then apply on skin, and rub until blended in. Repeat until all bare skin areas are covered.

I find it to be really moisturizing too, (it contains shea butter and cocoa butter) so rest assured you’ll be getting that glowy summer skin in no time! Who would have thought that’d be a perk of bug repellent?! 😍

Want even more coverage?

Sallye Ander also makes a bug repellent soap that smells just as amazing and is just as safe as the lotion I already shared above. It’s designed for you to start your day with this soap when you first shower in the morning, and then you can follow up throughout the day with the cream I’ve been raving about. With this duo, you’ll get the ultimate coverage for when you’re really fighting off bugs.

Their soaps are handcrafted in small batches and even cut by hand so you can ensure you’re getting a thoughtfully made product every single time. Just like the cream, this soap is made of completely natural ingredients and free of artificial dyes, sulfates, parabens, and chemicals.

If it’s not obvious, I LOVE these No-Bite-Me products!

And nope, this post is not sponsored. I just wholeheartedly feel like everyone needs to know about this incredible cream!

If you’re on the fence, check out these raving reviews for Sallye Ander bug repellent:

This cream is perfect. It has a very pleasant odor and it’s soft and creamy. I honestly have not been bitten once while sleeping since I started using it – it really does what it says!” – Ashley ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“I live in The Woodlands, Texas just north of Houston and we have had a tremendous amount of rain this year. Needless to say, the mosquitoes are horrible. I have used Deep Woods in the past and while it works very well, I actually feel a bit nauseated after having it on for a while. (Too much DEET I suppose).

I also hate spraying all of the stuff on just to go out and grill a steak, come back into the house, sit down on the couch, and then have the furniture smelling like mosquito repellent.

I decided to try this product and I put it on this morning before going outside to spend 3 hours mowing the yard. I did not have any mosquito bites! This stuff really works well and I did not have any nausea that I sometimes get with DEET. – Guy ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“I’ve finally found a natural bug repellent (after trying a lot and even making a few) that works! My daughter has always been very prone to mosquito bites but with this cream on I’ve only seen her get one, probably on a spot I missed or didn’t cover well enough. That’s another thing, you just have to use a small amount for each limb, although I always put a bit more on my kid’s ankles. This is such a great natural product and it smells nice too! Definitely recommend!” – Stacy ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This Traeger will have you cooking outdoors for every meal!

Thank you for this! Just ordered it from Amazon, looking forward to trying it out on our family : )

    • Sara

Enjoy, bizzymama! I’m so glad this post was helpful to you and your family!

  2. Mandypacs

    Ordered. Back ordered.

    • Sara

Oh no, Mandypacs, thanks for sharing! Hopefully, you won’t have to wait too long to get your order!

      • Rina

I just ordered from Amazon, no backorder. Got the soap too. Sounds like it will smell amazing!

  3. Emily NYC

Would the smell be too strong if you have chemical sensitivities?

    • Sara

Thanks a great question, Emily NYC. I’m sure everyone is different so it’s hard to say, but as I mentioned in the post, there are quite a few essential oils making up the scent for this product so it is strong. However, I find it to be really pleasant. If you’re only able to handle mild or completely unscented products I would definitely not recommend this product in that case.

  4. marburs

Does it take dare of ticks?

    • Sara

Hey, marburs! Yes, this repellant cream is effective on black flies, mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks. Hope that helps!

  5. Jackie

Got one! There is another one (same product just not prime) on Amazon that it’s $12.95, saving me $3.00. It takes a few days more to deliver but went with that one 😉

    • Sara

Awesome, thanks for sharing, Jackie! We’ll have to take a look at that one.

  6. Daphneg

We have used this for years. It is the best!

    • Sara

Awesome! So happy to hear that, Daphneg!

  7. Sandy:)

Thanks for the post. I ordered some to try. Hope it works as well for my family as it has for yours!

    • Sara

Awesome, Sandy! Keep me posted on how well it works for you all! Enjoy! 🙂

  8. Ann

Does this protect against nauseums? Any one know. Thank you.

    • Sara

Hey Ann! It doesn’t directly call out “nauseums” on the container, but it does say it repellent black flies so maybe there’s a resemblance since they’re both in the fly family. I would ask the company before ordering though if that’s your major concern! I hope this helps!

    • rina

      No See ‘Ums?

  9. peachcraze

I have had the worst time with mosquitos all my life. I love to go backpacking but hate the feel and smell of deet products especially, when I can’t shower immediately to get it off. I will definitely be trying this. If anyone is looking for an effective mosquito spray that doesn’t have deet and doesn’t smell bad, I love Natrapel. I have found it to be very effective when surrounded by mosquitos.

    • Lori

Thanks for the heads-up on Natrapel, peachcraze. Mosquitoes LOVE me!

    • Sara

I hope you love this product, peachcraze! Even more importantly, I hope you can safely get back to doing something you love without the nuisance of bugs!

  10. Kate

Does it leave your skin greasy after applying? I’ve used different essential oil based repellents in the past but they left my skin feeling so oily.

    • Sara

This is very moisturizing, Kate, so it will leave your skin feeling soft. If you use too much it can definitely make it feel greasy, however, you don’t need much at all for it to be effective. 🙂

  11. JMcRayde

Yay! So thankful for your recommendation! Only question, is it safe around dogs/cats? We have a 12 week puppy, so want to be sure on that. Thanks!

    • Sara

I’m so glad you asked before ordering, JMcRayde. I don’t have any pets at the moment so that’s not something that even came to find. If you head over to Amazon from our link and scroll down to questions/answers someone did ask about dogs and the seller responded saying this: “Yes! You can certainly use our No Bite Me products on dogs. We suggest putting in their arm and leg pits, down their bellies and right near their ears.”

      I hope that helps!

    • Maggie

JMcRayde, you might want to check out Wondercide natural products, especially designed for pets. They have a cedar-based spray for pets (and people). They’re based in Austin, TX and use Texas Cedar. Their pet shampoo bars are the BEST for washing dogs. They have an Amazon store, but I buy directly from their site as they often send out 20-30% off codes (the cedar yard spray is pricey, but it works great at keeping fleas and mosquitoes away).

  12. JMcRayde

    Effective on bees?!

    • Sara

They don’t call out bees on the container, JMcRayde. I would reach out to the company about that just to be sure. I think bees, naturally are not looking to attack like the other bugs most are looking to fight off. Hopefully this helps and you find a solution you’re looking for!

      • JMcRayde

Thank you Sara and Maggie for the reply! I have the item saved in my favorites list on Amazon until we need it:) I do know also, bees dislike any kind of mint scent. Such as peppermint or spearmint.

        • Sara

Keep me posted on how you like it after you give it a shot, JMcRayde! Enjoy your summer!

  13. Lori

Ordered one. Hope it works for us too.

    • Sara

Awesome, Lori! I hope you enjoy it!

  14. kmlewis81

Just ordered one. Can’t wait to try it!

    • Sara

Awesome, kmlewis81! I hope you love it!

  15. Dee.K

So sunscreen first and then this repellent right?

    • Sara

Hey, Dee.K! I’m not sure about the proper way to apply while also using sunscreen. I’m sure each sunscreen can affect the effectiveness on this product. I would reach out to the company to find out exactly how the product is to be intended to use in addition to sunscreen. 🙂

  16. V

I was almost completely sold on this, until I read it has some aroma of cedar. My daughter is allergic to cedar; so not a win for us I guess.

    • Sara

Oh no, I’m sorry to hear that V!

  17. Feenicks

I have tried 6 different deet free repellants from homemade essential oil versions to store bought versions and have been bit EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I’m so he only person around here who gets bit through my leggings! Just ordered the combo soap and cream package. I will love you forever if you have found the solution to my summer outdoors problem.

    • Sara

I seriously thought I was the only person who gets bit through their leggings, Feenicks! LOL! I seriously hope this product works just as well for you! Please keep me posted. 🙂

    • zina

I get bites through my Jeans!!! I will have to try this one, just trying to figure out how it works with sunscreen

  18. JAC

I’ve been using Avon Original Bath Oil for my children for about 8+ years now. I hate the Off repellent and all things like it because of the harsh chemicals. My daughters are allergic to mosquitoes and a bite will swell up their body part more than almost 5 times its size. It will become huge and extremely hard and painful. And when they wear the Avon Original Bath Oil they never have to worry about bugs at all. I normally buy a big bottle as well a couple of small spray bottles that I can refill later. I usually keep a spray bottle in both my vehicles for when we are at someone house outside unexpectedly. I’ve gotten my siblings and more to use it for their little babies as well and they have no bad reactions. My children and I have bad allergies and sensitive skin and it doesn’t irritate us at all. However everyone’s skin is different so if anyone tries it I would say just put on a small part of the body to test out for sensitivity first. We also put a couple of dabs in our bath water and it keeps us from even needing to oil our body’s after. But if your swimming in a personal backyard above ground pool with a filter you can use this just use bare minimum so it doesn’t affect the filter. My daughter will refuse to go outside if thy don’t have any. Lol. And Avon always tends to have sale on it as well.

    • Sara

Thank you so much for sharing your testimony with us, JAC! I’m happy that you and your family have a product that works so well for you. 🙂

    • Loudflower

SSS is great to protect against mosquito bites! I’ve also used it to spray screen doors to help deter bugs from coming in. I am going to give this product a try. Would be nice to have something a less oily that smells good and works.

      • C

LoudFlower vanilla spray works as mosquitoes hate the smell of vanilla… I use it all the time

  19. laurlaur2501

I just discovered this product a couple of weeks ago through my local MOMS group. Ordered it directly through the company rather than Amazon and received $5 off my first purchase and it came within the same week of me placing the order. For the past 2 weeks I have been using for myself and my 2 year old and it truly works. Totally willing to spend a bit more on a product that actually works and is natural!!

    • Sara

I’m so happy to hear how much you love this product, laurlaur2501! And thanks for the shopping tip as well!

  20. Olgraygirl

Just ordered the duo-pack, soap and cream. Although not available for Prime, shouldn’t take too long to arrive. I love using natural repellants and if it smells great, too–BONUS!!

    • Sara

I hope you love it as much as I do, Olgraygirl. Keep me posted! 🙂

  21. chenga57

Would you put this before or after sunscreen? Definitely want to try this

    • Sara

Hey there, chenga57! Another reader above asked the same question and I’m not sure about the proper way to apply while also using sunscreen. I’m sure each sunscreen can affect the effectiveness of this product. I would reach out to the company to find out exactly how the product is to be intended to use in addition to sunscreen. 🙂

  22. Jdj2day

Just ordered this as well. Excited to be able to go outdoors without getting bit!! Winner-winner chicken dinner! Thank you for posting info.

    • Sara

So awesome, Jdj2day! I hope you enjoy using it and enjoy the outdoors even more now! Cheers!

  23. Sue

Does anyone know what ALL the ingredients are?
I went out to Amazon and could not see all of them for the cream or the soap.

    • Christina

Eugenia, Cedar oil, Lemongrass oil, Geranium oil, Mint oil, Thyme Oil, Clove oil, Rosemary oil, purified water, soy and canola oils, beeswax, lecithin, Rosemary needle for the cream. Our family uses the soap and cream all the time! We found it in the UP of Michigan and have used it ever since!

      • Christina

Eugenol is the first ingredient, spellcheck changed it on me!

      • Sue

        Thank you

    • Stacy F (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Sure, this is the full list of ingredients per their site: cedar oil, eugenol, lemongrass oil, geranium oil, clove oil, mint oil, rosemary oil, thyme oil, soy and canola oils, and rosemary needle.
      You can see that here:

    • Sara

Hi Sue! As it states on the back of my jar of cream, all of the active ingredients are the oils I already have listed in the post and then the “inert ingredients” are purified water, soy and canola oils, beeswax, lecithin, and rosemary needle. Then at the bottom, it states: *Derived from natural plant extracts naturally occurring in several culinary herbs and spices.

Hope all of this info helped! 🙂

  24. Abbie

Check out their website too. Free shipping for over $50. And their “Hogwash” soap can get out anything!

    • Sara

I’ll have to check it out, thanks Abbie!

  25. Meeko

Awesome! Fun fact, the founder of the company is my granduncle! Really cool to see this during my daily H2S perusing. 😊

    • Sara

What a small world, Meeko! That’s really cool!

  26. Gisette

Just order some. I seem to be a bug magnet 🧲 The bugs are bad this year. 😬

    • Sara

Awesome! Keep me posted on how you like it, Gisette!

  27. Sue S

Ordered one. Thank you for sharing. I have tried a lot of suggested/posted products (toys, clothes, food, etc) on H2S. Have not been disappointed.

    • Sara

That’s so great to hear, Sue S! I hope you love this product recommendation as much as all the other things you have scored in the past. Keep us posted! 🙂

  28. C

Just as an FYI- Vanilla spray will repel mosquitoes and other biting insects.. bug bracelets also work… I use mainly the vanilla spray and it works great (sometimes use bug bracelets)… also in heavily trafficked areas where lots of people wear bug spray (eg parks, camps), the mosquitoes have evolved and some have become “super mosquitoes “ where they are actually immune to the deet bug spray and the scent of the bug spray attracts them

  29. Mila

Thank you for this post! Is there a natural sunscreen that you’d recommend?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Yes! We recommend this one, Blue Lizard. You can read more about it here. It’s mineral based, paraben-free and reef safe.

  30. bizzymama

Just received this in the mail and it does have an amazing scent! Love it!!

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Yay! Thanks for following up, bizzymama!

  31. Shelly

I put this on and went out to walk my dog and was immediately bit by a horse fly so beware.

  32. Pat

Oh my I literally just bought this 2 days ago on a recommendation from a lake cabin guest where we are staying because the sandflies were so bad. I am also a mosquito magnet…two days and not one bite. This stuff is amazing!!!
