Concerned about magnetic water balloons? Find out what to avoid and what’s safe…

Hey, parents! Here’s what you didn’t know about magnetic water balloons.

If you bought into the hype around reusable magnetic water balloons this summer (like many of our team members did) you may have been disappointed, concerned, or downright experienced a safety hazard if you purchased these water balloons. ⚠️

After multiple team members had purchased, tested, and re–tested, reusable water balloons, we were shocked to hear the negative buzz surrounding these fun toys. Specifically, these balloons hospitalized one 8-year-old girl, as described on Good Morning America.

As a concerned parent, Hip Sidekick, Erica immediately examined her own reusable water balloons, and here is what she found:

The magnetic water balloons we had previously posted & purchased are NOT the same ones that injured the girl on GMA.

What NOT to buy: YWYWVVS 24-Piece Reusable Water Balloons, Quick Fill, Silicone Water Balloons

*Or any similar brand/ style magnetic water balloons

The water balloons above have tiny disc/ ball-shaped magnets that pop out easily and can be inhaled through the nose or swallowed by mouth causing serious internal damage.

[You can see in the image below how easily Erica could pop out the magnets, and how tiny they are on her finger. Definitely a choking/ safety hazard!]

Summer might be over, but in the water or not, if the kiddos find these water balloons with dangerous magnets lying around the house, they could still pose a potential safety risk.

Wondering which reusable water balloons our team prefers?

These balloons have a silicone barrier over the magnets, plus they are larger and do not pop out. We’ve had 4-5 team members test these Soppycid Water Balloons and have not experienced magnets falling out or being a risk.

Here’s what a few team members have said about the Soppycid safe reusable water balloons…

WOW! These are so, SO cool! My kids keep thanking me for getting them – they’re like ‘mom, these are awesome, thank you so much!’ They are so easy to use. I can’t imagine ever using a traditional water balloon again. These are so SMART!— Melinda

My kids had so much fun playing with these water balloons. I love these reusable balloons because there are no tiny pieces of balloons to pick up when we’re done. They’re easy to fill and magnets hold them closed. These will make summer much more fun!— Melissa

My kids, actually my entire family are obsessed with these water balloons – and so is every other kid at the pool 😉 They’re just so easy and honestly ‘satisfying’ to open and close (SO much easier than traditional water balloons), and of course, there’s no tedious clean up picking up all the tiny latex pieces like with traditional water balloons. I seriously recommend these as a fun pool/ outside water toy for any child! We were even quick to gift some to my best friend’s son, that’s how much I think these are SO FUN! – Chelsey
