Calling all pet lovers! If you’ve been looking for Maytag® Pet Pro Washer reviews, here’s my honest feedback!

Woman opening washer

My new Maytag® Pet Pro Washer was made with pet owners in mind. 🐾

I recently stayed in a vacation rental and when I returned home, what I missed most wasn’t the carefully curated decor or the swimming pool. Believe it or not, it was the washing machine. I hadn’t realized how much I needed a new machine until I had used someone else’s.

They had a modern washer that came with all the bells and whistles like automatic sensors, a quiet cycle, and a deep clean. If this was how other people were living, my laundry room at home was due for a serious upgrade! 😅

Back home, I had a washer that was approaching 15 years old. I had held onto it longer than I probably should have. It was becoming increasingly louder over the years, wasted a ton of water, and my clothes had more pilling than usual – all signs my washer was on the fritz.

The straw that broke the camel’s back was when I washed a brand new sweatshirt only to have it come out of the wash stained and covered in my dog’s hair. When I say covered, I mean I had to lint roll my clothes after washing and drying them! Whatever a new washing machine cost, I knew upgrading would be worth it.

It was time for a change and the time was right!

According to Forbes, springtime is one of the more advantageous times of the year for consumers to purchase a new washing machine. I knew I needed a durable machine that could handle all my washing needs, including removing that pesky dog hair.

I have an adorable (and very spoiled) long-haired dachshund that is my world. His name is Hugo and where I go, he goes. There’s nothing more we love to do than snuggle. The problem is that he sheds constantly. His hair gets all over my clothes, my bedding, and much to my dismay, even on my dinner plate. 🥴

Luckily, I got a great deal on a Pet Pro Top Load Washer from Maytag. This 4.7 cubic feet washing machine comes with a Pet Pro option that lifts and captures pet hair from clothes. It also comes with a built-in Pet Pro filter that removes 5X more pet hair.*

Little did I know, those would just be the start of what I like about the machine. It has a lot of great features that I didn’t even realize until I had the chance to use it!

*Disclaimer: This is when comparing the Normal cycle with Pet Pro Filter and option to a cycle using a traditional agitator without a Pet Pro Filter and option. Results will vary based on fabric and type of pet hair.

Here are my favorite features of the Maytag® Pet Pro Top Load Washer…

It has a Pet Pro Filter that removes more hair.

One of the main reasons I was interested in this Maytag model is that it comes with a built-in Pet Pro Filter that removes up to 5x more pet hair.* 🙌  The Pet Pro option unleashes additional water and a deep rinse to activate the Pet Pro Filter, which lifts and captures pet hair from clothes. Once removed, pet hair is caught in the built-in Pet Pro Filter for a clean you can see.

It has auto sensors, a deep fill option, and Advanced Vibration Control.

One of my favorite aspects of the Maytag® Pet Pet Pro Top Loading Washer is that it comes with water level sensors so it automatically fills with the exact amount of water you need. Not only do I no longer have to listen to a racket, but I’m also not wasting water. If I do want extra water, the machine has a deep fill option.

The powerful shock absorbers and springs of Advanced Vibration Control™ reduce vibration to help keep disruptive noise to a minimum, load after load. This means I don’t have to worry about the noise I was getting with my previous washing machine. What a relief!

It has a built-in water faucet.

I have a no-frills laundry room. It lacks a sink and counter space. One of the coolest features of my new washing machine from Maytag is that it has a built-in water faucet. I can use it to spot-treat any stains and pre-soak my laundry. After 3 hours, the water automatically drains from the basket and the washer is ready for me to start my wash cycle. This feature is so handy and helps me to maximize the space that I do have.

Woman pointing to the hinge on her washing machine

It’s top loading with a slow-closing and hinged glass lid.

If I’m being honest, the older I get, the less I want to have to bend over multiple times to pull things in and out of my washing machine. It seems simple, but I really love that this Maytag® Pet Pro Washer is top-loading so I don’t have to do so much bending. I also really appreciated the hinged lid – it closes slowly, and as the lid is made of glass, I can see through it if I need to check on my laundry.

The deep wash basin of a Maytag Pet Pro Washer

The stainless steel wash basket is huge.

When the washing machine arrived, it looked more compact than my old washer. I was worried it might be too small. I was wrong – it’s 4.7 cubic feet! According to Maytag, I can wash 19 towels at once – very roomy.

Woman opening the detergent tray on her washing machine

The detergent tray is inside for easy access.

One of the more unique features of this washer is that the detergent tray is actually inside the washer. For easy access and efficiency, it is located at the top of the stainless-steel wash basket and right under the lid. So far, I haven’t overfilled the tray or made a mess even once.

Woman placing clothes inside a washing machine

The efficient drain & spin leaves my clothes less damp.

With my old washing machine, my clothes were soaking wet after washing them. But the Maytag® Pet Pro Washer uses a 750 RPM spin cycle which makes it super effective at removing excess water, which can help decrease drying time. By the time I put my clothes in the dryer, they are already on their way to being dry and I absolutely love that!

Woman pointing to the Quick Wash cycle on a washing machine

There are several handy cycles to choose from including Quick Wash and Clean Washer with affresh®.

The Maytag® Pet Pro washer comes with several different cycles including cycles for jeans, activewear, delicates, bulky items, and towels. You can also add an extra rinse if you prefer, and it has a quick wash cycle for when you have somewhere to be but still need to throw in a load of laundry!

I also want to point out that this washer has what is called an affresh® cycle. After about 30 washes, run this cycle using either liquid chlorine bleach or the affresh® washing machine cleaner tablet. The inside of your washer will get a thorough clean. I think that is a fantastic perk and one that did not come with my old washer.

There are several reasons to choose the Maytag brand.

When shopping for a new washing machine, there are a lot of reputable brands to choose from and it can be hard to know where to start. Here are a few reasons this brand stood out to me:

    • Maytag has free returns within 15 days**
    • They offer 0% APR financing**
    • Free delivery on orders above $399**
    • My purchase came with a 10-year limited parts warranty****
    • Maytag washers and dryers are assembled in the USA
    • Quick and easy installation
    • They often run sales on their appliances (one is going on right now!)

Overall, I love my new washing machine.

Just check out the before and after pictures of washing a white t-shirt. Afterward, there was definitely a reduction in pet hairs thanks to my new Maytag® Pet Pro washer. The image on the left is before washing and the image on the right is post-wash:

I really like the deep wash basket, automatic sensors, the slow-closing lid, and the affresh® cycle. Plus, the volcano black color looks pretty chic in my laundry room.

It’s a pretty quiet washer except when it is draining or filling with water. The main area I think it could improve is that it is missing a digital timer to tell me how much longer I have left in a cycle. If that is my only complaint, I think it’s a winner!

Investing in a washing machine can feel expensive since you usually pay in a lump sum, but Consumer Reports advises that most manufacturers say a washing machine will last around 10 years. That means a washing machine that costs around $1000 costs about $100 a year. That’s not too bad when you think about how often you wash your clothes.

What I can say is that I am honestly so grateful for my new washing machine. It is a definite upgrade from my older washer and I’m relieved to have a laundry room with more modern technology. The built-in features and multiple-cycle options are so handy. My dog sheds A LOT and this washing machine can more than handle the hair. For that reason, I would definitely recommend this model to other pet owners.

“Laundry room on 2nd floor so having a smooth washer and dryer is key. Our old one was not smooth and what an amazing washer, you cannot tell it’s even running. The pet option is well worth the price.” – Maytag product reviewer

I got a Maytag “Commercial” washer a few years ago and have been absolutely disappointed in it. Before we bought it, we had a cheap Roper washer that washed fine, but we decided to “upgrade.” Bad mistake. Jeans have been ripped, belt loops torn off, curtain shredded (on delicate cycle!), towels come out with holes, a new dishcloth came out with holes. I’m not recommending Maytag washers to anyone anymore.

Oh no! SO very sorry to hear your items have ripped.❤️ Thanks for letting us know about your experience. Have you been able to reach out to customer service?

      • Cj Lapp

I don’t know what CS could do for us. Washer seems to work fine, it’s just really rough on things. I doubt they would offer to cover the cost of our ruined items. Just wanted to comment so folks know to do more research. Thanks.

        • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

You’re welcome. 💕 Thanks again for sharing with us.

I’ve been looking at these as one of our options, nice to read a review on them. I’ve had front loaders for years because of space issues (they have to be stacked where currently located) but I hate the front load washer and how moldy it gets even when left open and cleaned regularly! Can’t wait to reconfigure and go back to a top loader.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Glad you enjoyed the review! 💕🙌 Hoping you love this washer too, if it’s the one you decide on when you go to replace yours. 🤗

Does anyone have any recommendation for Washer and Dryer? I’m seeing some models on sale in Costco site.

    • Lana

Speed Queen. All USA made and five year warranty. We have had ours for over six years and no problems and it still washes just like when i was new. They are expected to last 25 years. Our last two washers lasted 3 years each.

  4. Pat Goff

I like that it is a top loader and that it isn’t institutional stainless steel. Might have to look into it when my washer dies. It is 25 years old and still going strong. Not sure my brothers can fix this one as it has a computer in it. LOL

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Wow! Awesome to hear how long your washer has held up! 🙌 The longest a washer has lasted for me is about 12 years.

  5. Andrea U

I get the “pet hair”, but does it help with human hair too? Yeah, I have that all over the place. Thanks!

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Hey Andrea! I asked Kara on this, and here’s what she shared with me – “I don’t believe Maytag has made any specific claim regarding human hair so results may vary, but I can say that I have not noticed any of my hair remaining on my clothing after removing it from the washing machine. I have pretty long hair so I would definitely notice if the washer wasn’t lifting it from my clothes.” Hoping this might be helpful for you! 💗

      • Andrea U

Thank you so much for the honest response. 🙂

        • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

          You’re welcome! 🥰

have you ever met a doxie that doesn’t love to snuggle and follow its human everywhere?? my “mini” weighs 35 lbs and is 10 yrs old but she’s still that way. I’m not in need of a washer yet but I’ve found the bounce dryer sheets for pets are helpful too

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

LOL! SO true! My mom has one and he follows her everywhere. It’s adorable. 🥰

  7. EH

I am somewhat of a dog fur expert. (I do Pomeranian rescue- LOL) I just wanted to jump in here- the new washers do not even compare to the older ones. Apparently they are not made to last any more. We pay for a home warranty and the HW company ends up replacing our washer about every four years. Meanwhile we have to wait until they can send their repairman out, and then he orders parts and schedules to come back. I have been with out a washer for a month or better. So if you buy a new one, I suggest you keep your old one for a back up. The wait is horrific with out one. BUT you can get a broken appliance replaced, then that makes it somewhat tolerable. Meanwhile-shake off particularly furry clothes before and after you wash them. Using Bounce pet hair dryer sheets helps as well. And final tip- NEVER EVER buy BLACK clothes again! LOL

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thank you SO much for all of your tips and for sharing your experience. 🙌 Great suggestions to keep in mind. 🤗💕

  8. Tam

Don’t have this specific one, but my Maytag didn’t even last 5 years….with the 10 year warranty. The transmission went bad and the part wasn’t worth replacing. Thankfully, I bought a 5-year warranty for it when I purchased it, and was written a check for the cost of the machine when I bought it.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for sharing about your experience with this brand, Tam. Glad you were able to get a refund on the full purchase price from having the warranty! 💕

  9. Lana

Buy Speed Queen! You will not regret it!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for the recommendation, Lana. 💕

  10. Erika

I’m sorry but I don’t feel comfortable putting any one of my dogs in one of those…just kidding looool

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      😆

  11. Jeannie

    Speed Queen all the way!!
