If you love chocolate and avocados separately, try combining them for a delicious and creamy smoothie perfect for breakfast or a midday treat! This unexpected combo is my new favorite way to enjoy fresh ripe avocados and it’s super easy to make.
Chocolate Avocado Smoothie
Try this easy avocado chocolate smoothie, rich and creamy! Perfect for a hot summer day.
- 1/2 cold avocado
- 1 frozen banana
- 3 tablespoons milk (I used chocolate almond milk)
- 1/3 cup Greek yogurt (I used vanilla yogurt)
- 1 and 1/2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
Combine all ingredients in a high powered blender or food processor, blend until smooth.
I usually make berry or green smoothies, but it’s fun to switch it up a little and try something different. Customize this recipe by using your favorite milk and/or yogurt to fit your dietary needs and taste. If you use unsweetened milk and yogurt, you may want to add honey or another sweetener.
I love making these! My family made fun of me until they tried it! They love it too!
Do you taste the avocado?
I use avocado all the time in my smoothies. It doesn’t really have much taste at all, it just makes your smoothie super creamy. 🙂
Looking forward to trying this one! Thanks.
if you do just avocado, cocoa powder, sweetner or sugar, and just enough water to get the blender going, it makes for a nice cake frosting, or pudding! 😉
Oh my gosh…thank you so much for the comment. We have lots of dietary issues but can do this for sure!
Avocado has very little taste on it’s own. My dd has a dairy intolerance, so I use avocado a lot. It’s great in smoothies to replace yogurt. I’ve made pudding with it. Hubby and I now prefer it to cheese on things like tacos and chili.
I am a dairy/gluten/nut intolerant vegetarian. I would love this as an alternative to my usual smoothies with coconut milk instead of almond. I would also recommend raw cacao powder instead of cocoa powder. It keeps the cancer-fighting anti-oxidants that are lost during processing into cocoa powder. It costs more, but I use the powder and nibs every day! Try Vitacost for a great organic source!
Mmm…. Looks interesting and yummy!
Oh my yum! Looks…interesting 🙂 Can’t wait to try it!
You can freeze your avocados too. Remove the pit first. FYI if you cut them up the stick together.
Do they still turn color?
Avocado smoothies is awesome! We used honey, soymilk (lactose intolerance), ice cubes, and MILO (u can get it in asian stores).
Yummy. I recently got recipe for avocado espresso drink. Wonder how that taste like.
I’m pregnant and this sounds so healthy and awesome !! Thanx for the recipe ! 🙂
Yum!!! Thanks, Lina!! Can’t wait to try this recipe for super ripe avocados:)
Linda not Lina …lol
You’re welcome! Enjoy. 🙂
What does this taste like? Pudding? Sounds tasty but just trying to get an idea.
Ya it’s chocolatey, can’t taste the avocado and pudding texture.
Could you use regular yogurt instead of greek?
Anyone have nutrition info?
There is a great video on the nutritional benefits of avocado. Someone shared it with me on what’s app.
Lina thank you so much for the great recipe and a big thanks to all the “hip”sters who posted variations and other ideas. We are limited by many dietary issues but the creativity of you and others makes all things possible 🙂

This is very famous smooties in my country. I’m from.Indonesia (South east Asia), but.we make it without.banana and yogurt. So just avacado with water / milk ,.you can put Ice cube also to.make it cold and put little bit chocolate powder if u want , put little bit of honey to make it sweet and at the end put just very little sea salt ( only.little bit). Also you can put little bit ice cream if u want.
