Homemade Cinnamon Sugar Churros Using the Air Fryer

Air Fryer Homemade Cinnamon Sugar Churros

yield: 26 SERVINGS

prep time: 60 MINUTES

cook time: 10 MINUTES

total time: 1 HOUR 10 MINUTES

Ingredients

For the Churros:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

For the Chocolate Sauce:

  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil

Directions

1

In a saucepan on the stove, bring water to a boil and stir in 1 tablespoon of the sugar and butter.

2

Once melted, reduce heat to medium/low and fold in flour. Remove from heat.

3

In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs and vanilla extract.

4

Slowly fold a few eggs into the dough. Keep repeating until eggs are well combined into the dough. Let cool.

5

Place dough into a pastry bag with a star-shaped tip. (I'm actually using a Wilton decorator, pictured.) Pipe 6-inch long churros onto a parchment paper lined baking pan or a silicone mat.

6

Place tray into the fridge to chill for about 30 minutes. (This makes your dough less sticky and easier to work with.)

7

Place a single layer of churros, not touching each other, in the air fryer. Air fry for 10 minutes at 380 degrees.

8

Mix cinnamon and 1/2 cup of the sugar together on a small plate.

9

Once churros are done cooking, roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture and place them on a cookie cooling rack. Repeat the process until all churros are cooked.

10

To make the chocolate sauce, melt chocolate chips and coconut oil in a glass bowl using the microwave for about 20-30 seconds. Mix well and dip warm churros in the sauce to serve!

This recipe makes about 26, six-inch churros.

cinnamon and sugar churros from the air fryer – a piped churro prior to cooking

Does your family enjoy warm churros? You’ve got to try this air fryer recipe!

You’ve gotta try making these cinnamon sugar churros in the air fryer! The result is deliciously crisp on the outside yet soft and chewy in the middle. It has all the great qualities of a restaurant-style churro, minus the frying oil! 🙌

pile of homemade churros with chocolate sauce

This recipe for air fryer churros results in sugary sticks of donut heaven.

The process is fairly easy and includes making a simple dough on the stove, piping the churros onto a baking sheet, chilling them in the fridge, and then finally air frying them to perfection! It may seem like a lot of steps, but it’s a straightforward process and the results are AMAZING. I promise it’s well worth the effort!

Hip tips for making this recipe for Air Fryer Churros

  • You’ll need a pastry bag and a star-shaped tip to make these churros. I actually used my handy Wilton Dessert Decorator for this project and find this kitchen tool to be super helpful!
  • If you don’t have a designated piping tool, you could always just place your dough in a freezer bag, cut the corner off, and squeeze your dough through the hole. This will work, but it won’t result in the same tube shape with ridges. πŸ™‚

cinnamon and sugar churros from the air fryer – dipped in chocolate

You are the cinnamon to my churro!

This fun air fryer recipe is like a sweet love note to your family, and they’ll all love you forever for making them churros. LOL! No, seriously though, these are way too yummy!

You can eat these churros warm from the air fryer with just the dusting of cinnamon and sugar, but that chocolate sauce on the side really takes this dessert to the next level. There are lots of ready-made options to choose from too, but the homemade chocolate sauce is super quick and easy to make in the microwave.

This was such an impressive treat to make in the air fryer, and now that I know how easy it is to make churros at home, it’s game on!

These Sopapilla Cheesecake Squares are dangerously good and SO easy to make!

Is there anything the air fryer *can’t* do? These look amazing.

Hi Lina! I am loving your posts about air fryers and I recently received one (at Christmas!). However, I haven’t even taken it out of the box yet. Can you comment on how easy/hard they are to clean, can it be used to make a meat entree (thinking dinner), or even cook a whole meal? I’d like to break open the box but the thought of just another fad kitchen appliance that won’t be useful is holding me back. Thanks!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

They are super easy to clean! I think you’ll love it. We use ours just about everyday for a quick side dish or even just to warm up leftovers! Yesterday I warmed up leftover steak and potatoes and it tasted just like the night before!

Here’s how to cook a whole chicken in your air fryer! I enjoy not using my oven in the summer when I can. https://hip2save.com/2018/06/30/cook-whole-chicken-air-fryer-hour/

      Hope that helps!

  7. Cheryl Ellefson

I love fruit filed churros. Can I make them in my air fryer?

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh I’m not familiar with them, but that sounds yummy! Let us know if you try it. πŸ™‚

Would probably brown a bit better and be more churro like if you gave them a light spritz with coconut spray oil(Pam) the coconut spray doesn’t impart any taste like Pam sometimes does and your cinnamon sugar would stick a bit better afterward too.

  9. Nancy Walton

Made this for my church community group tonight and everyone loved them.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

That’s such great news!! Yay, thanks for sharing!

  10. Shirley Cruickshank

You dont say which amount of sugar you should use when using with the water and using with the cinnamon, so I’m confused in which amount should be the one to take and use in that stage.

  11. wickedpearl

Tastes nothing like a churro. Tastes exactly like scrambled eggs. Will not be using this recipe again, very disappointed.

    • Elisabeth Millspaugh

You must of added the egg to fast. When adding egg to something hot ALWAYS add it slowly
