Corn on the Cob: How to Husk and Cook Corn in Under 5 Minutes
Love fresh corn on the cob but hate the prep work?
Warm buttery corn is one of my very favorite side dishes to make at home, especially in the summer when it’s so sweet and super inexpensive. There are so many ways to prepare it and serving corn is great for just my family, or any outdoor gathering with friends.
Sometimes removing the husk and silk from corn can be a messy task, right?
All the little annoying hairs go everywhere around the trash can or sink, and it’s kind of a pain to clean up afterward. I used to find myself even spending more money on the packs of corn that already came without the husk at the store just for the added convenience. Not anymore…

Fresh corn is no longer a hassle!
Make preparing and cooking fresh summer corn on the cob a breeze with this easy and super fast trick of cooking/husking that takes just a few minutes using the microwave.
Hack: Try cutting off the top and bottom portions of the husk and then cook the corn in the microwave!
Our first instinct when coming home with fresh corn is to start ripping the corn husk open and peeling from the top, leaving remnants of silk everywhere. Instead, try cutting the ends of the corn off first, and then cook the corn. Once cooked, the husk will slide off so much easier and cleaner.
I personally love cooking corn in the microwave on busy nights for a quick side dish. It doesn’t take a ton of time, there’s no boiling water involved, plus it tastes so yummy. Cooking times may vary a little, but for 2 ears of corn, I’ll wrap them up in a wet paper towel for steam and cook for about 4 minutes.
Afterward, the husk will just slide off super easily, usually in a solid piece.

I enjoy this method too, as it comes out tasty and it’s so easy to do! Place the corn on the trivet and pour in a cup of water. Seal lid and set cook time for 3 minutes on high (manual). Do a quick release afterward, peel off the husk, and enjoy!
