Easy & Free Hack to Saving on Hand Soap
Here’s a quick and easy hack!
Adjust your soap dispenser to give you just the right amount of soap for a thorough cleaning – without spending a dime OR a lot of time!
With frequent hand washing, have you ever noticed how much soap is actually dispensed each time you pump? Chances are, it’s more than you need! Children especially enjoy the fun of pushing several times which can add to using a lot more soap than needed.
To ensure a sufficient amount, Hip2Save reader Shanna sent in this tip that’ll reduce the amount of soap dispensed each time you (or anyone else in your family) press the pump.
Grab a hair tie and get ready! This tip saves you money and it’s so incredibly easy to do that even the kiddos can help with this one. All you do is wrap a hair tie several times around the neck of the soap pump.
By stopping the ability to pump all the way down, less soap is dispensed. You’ll still get plenty of soap for washing but it’s a quick and easy way to stop waste and save a little money!
So simple and so smart!
Odds are that this hack will not save you hundreds of dollars. What it will do is reduce the frequency of having to buy or refill your soap dispenser. In the long run, it could save you a little bit of cash as well!
Thank you, Shanna, for sharing your functional and frugal hack with us!

Make your own bubble solution for just pennies when the bottle spills or runs out!
Great idea I use with large hand sanitizer bottles, esp. for children with small hands.
Or make your own foaming soap. Buy a foaming soap dispenser and when it runs out fill up the bottom inch with a refillable soap then add water the rest of the way and shake.
I do this using Dr. Bronner’s (or an equivalent store-brand of pure castile soap with EO). It’s wonderful smelling, and a big bottle of Dr. Bronners lasts almost forever.
My seven year old insists that we do this to all the hand soap in our home. It really does help save. She’s so cute….when she wants to be LOL

Use old fashioned bar soap if you really want to save money. Place an ordinary sponge underneath the soap so there is no mess.
We do this at school with sanitizer

Definitely trying this. I like more expensive organic soap and My husband always squirts so much and there ends up being a puddle of it under the dispenser when I wipe the counter!
I tried the hair tie thing before & my bf kept removing it. When i asked him he thought i was the dopey one putting it on there to not lose it. That idea didnt go over so big needless to say.
Too funny.
Great idea.
Plastic zip ties work as well.
