Thanks for the list, now I know which weekend I will request off from work LOL.. Worst days to work retail next to the holiday season.. lol

  2. Ash

Illinois is having a tax holiday for back-to-school shopping from August 5 through August 15

I live in Oklahoma and I’m very disappointed to see that they’ve only listed clothes and not school supplies. That does not help families as much as it needs to help them.

    • Lola

At least you get something. Our state doesn’t participate! On top of that they have a huge surplus and just can’t figure out what to do with it 😡.

      • Halloran

I agree. My state doesn’t offer anything either.

      • BJ

You must be in Indiana with me.

So what will happen here in Oklahoma is that the struggling families will not be able to take advantage of the tax free clothing they will still have to spend their money on school supplies. You can’t send a kid to school on the first day in nice clothes but they don’t have a pencil or a piece of paper to their name. This is ridiculous that school supplies are not included .

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks, CJ! We’ve added it to the post. 🥰

      • CJ

Awesome! We’ve never had it before and I used to get jealous when I’d see all of the other states listed each year on here! 🥴. Granted we don’t ever pay tax on clothing or shoes, and I don’t need a new computer, and my kids are all out of school so it probably won’t make much difference to me but it is cool to know we made the cut this year! (My kid in college could use this stuff but it’ll be too late for him, he needs things sooner) 😁

        • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Hey CJ! So glad it popped up this year, and we sure appreciate the heads up for your state! Hoping some other readers might find it helpful! 🥰

Leave it to Florida to offer the tax free days before our county even goes back to school. I have an 8th grader who won’t get her supply list from teachers until August 10th and tax free ends on August 7th.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Oh darn! You might check out this post – https://hip2save.com/tips/target-school-list-assist/, to see if your kiddo’s school has their list available there. I’ve also had luck searching a district’s website to locate an upcoming year’s school supply list. Hoping this is helpful! 💕

    • Shoppingfan

Same for us in parts of Texas. Ours is this weekend yet for my kid, we start on 8/18 but I assist with a district that starts on 8/10, the biggest one in the state starts on 8/22! It’s crazy, crazy. One year, I knew my son needed a type of calculator but was told each teacher will request a particular one they like! Well we picked up one tax free & of course, it wasn’t what she wanted so it went back. The one she liked was also over $100 so it didn’t qualify.

    • Amy Knightley

We also live in florida but go back to school on the 10th..this actually helps us alot in our area! I guess we are pretty fortunate to get a tax free day compared to other states that do not.

  6. Benita

How can we get a state added to the list?

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Hey Benita! I found this for you on the Federation of Tax Administrators site listing the eligible states – “Note, if your state is not listed, legislation has not been approved authorizing a sales tax holiday. Contact your state legislator for more information.” Hoping that’s helpful! 💕
