At Hip2Save, we love Amazon Prime Day. That said, we’re not ignoring the logic behind ditching at least certain aspects of it. Here are some reasons why Amazon Prime Day 2026 might not be totally worth it.

1. Now’s the time for big-ticket items.

Prime Day in October is becoming the new Black Friday, but it may not beat the deepest discounts found in November for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. However, Prime Day in October can offer big savings, especially on Amazon devices and select tech items.

That said, for the most in-demand holiday gifts like toys, clothing, and trending electronics, the deepest discounts usually show up in November. 2. Walmart Big Deal Days has already begun and runs through October 11th.

Every year, Walmart+ Week gives Amazon Prime Day a serious run for its money, and right now Walmart is running deals for an entire week! That’s 5 days longer than the Amazon Prime Day deals that start October 6th, and you’ll be able to score major markdowns on electronics, home, toys, and more!

So, is Amazon Prime Day worth it this year? That depends on what you’re shopping for.

Amazon is expected to offer big savings on its own devices like Echo, Kindle, and Fire TVs, as well as smart home products, beauty, and tech. But if you’re eyeing holiday gifts like toys or clothing, you might still want to wait until Black Friday or shop the Walmart Deal Days now.

3. Target’s Circle Deal Days have already begun, & it’s running during the same days as Prime Day.

Target Circle Deal Days have returned with some of their biggest sales and deals of the season, and members can already shop the deals! That means they started 24 hours before Amazon kicks off its deals.

You’ll find deals on tons of Target brand clothing, skincare, furniture, holiday decor, baby gear, laptops, Halloween, and more! If you’re shopping for specific toys or other big-ticket items for Christmas, this could be better than Black Friday. Needless to say, this Target sale will definitely give Amazon a run for its money.

4. Walmart+ is cheaper for a year than Amazon, and we love the perks even more.

While you can currently try Walmart+ for just $1 for 30 days, a regular annual membership is $98 ($8.17/month). Qualifying students and government-assistance recipients can get Walmart+ for as low as $49/year or $6.47/month! Compared to Amazon Prime at $14.99/month or $139/year, Walmart+ can be a pretty great way to save on membership perks.

Even sweeter, American Express Platinum cardholders can score a $12.95 statement credit when you use your card as the payment method on your W+ account.

5. You might end up buying just for the sake of buying.

We’ve all been there… You see a deal you just can’t pass up, but just because something’s on sale doesn’t mean you need it now, like this super large bag of cereal marshmallow bits. 😉 Instead, you could be saving up for a bigger splurge, padding an upcoming holiday or birthday budget, or just socking it away in a rainy-day fund instead.

If you’re shopping for a small kitchen appliance, clothing, or bedding, this is a great sale to shop. Otherwise, Amazon Prime Day is probably going to have the deals trumping everything else despite being 24 hours shorter.

7. The lightning deals may not be worth your time. 

The reality is that the really awesome deals will go fast, and they don’t last long either due to the time they’re on sale or the quantity available. Sometimes they’re as quick as 15 minutes from start to finish! Obviously, if you can take advantage of these deals, it’s great, but will it be worth your time to refresh your computer all day just to save a few bucks?
