Does anyone happen to know if the Trader Joe’s chocolate calendar is Gluten Free? We typically get these for our 4 kids from our Elf on the Shelf but our oldest was diagnosed with Celiac since last Christmas so that makes it a little challenging.

    • Kathleen

You might want to contact Trader Joe’s to inquire about their manufacturing and if they are made on shared lines with Any gluten, not just wheat!

Sara – we only have 2 children but one has a severe peanut and tree nut allergy and the other does not. So many years ago when we started getting Advent Calendars we got our son one that was not candy (since it used to be harder to find save ones for him) and would buy him a lego one, matchbox car, etc. He never minded and felt like he got an extra special calendar and my daughter would make a big deal about his “special” calendar for him. Just an idea if you end up not being able to find a gluten free option. Hopefully, you can find a safe chocolate one though.

I have one in front of me and it doesn’t say gluten free. I’m not gluten free so I don’t know what to look for but these are the ingredients: Milk chocolate (sugar, cocoa butter, cocoa mass, whole milk powder, nonfat dry milk, soy Lecithin[emulsifier], vanilla extract[water, ethyl alcohol, vanilla bean extractives]) Hope that helps!

    • Tac

You might want to look at No Whey chocolate. Their chocolate is gluten free, and even though it’s dairy free, my kids who can have dairy liked it as well. They have an advent calendar with small chocolates. More expensive, of course, but as my husband says, we can’t put a price on keeping our allergy kids safe and helping them feel more mainstream!

    According to this post here:

One of the most important thing on my list was Advent Calendars for the kids. The calendars only cost $.99 and they have a gluten-free milk chocolate candy behind each door! Truly an unbeatable deal.

    • Kathleen

The article you reference is from ‘2009’. Everyone, please take with a grain of salt, up to date manufacturing information is important for Celiac

Don’t forget Aldi…. European chocolate for cheap! Can’t go wrong 🙂

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh yes! We have enjoyed those too! Thanks for the suggestion!

  4. Paisley

You forgot about Aldi! Besides yummy German Chocolate calendars, they also have advent Calendars for dogs & cats! I picked up one yesterday for my furry family member. The price was around $6.00.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for the heads up, Paisley! We should be posting about those real soon!

  5. Becca

Fannie May’s is my daughter’s favorite every year. In fact, they are supposed to be in the stores today (I checked last week) so Im stopping there today when I run an errand.

  6. Katie

The boxes for #8 and #9 are SO pretty!! 😍 Is it strange that I want the boxes more than I want the chocolates? Lol.
