The plastic tray and caddy are so great for toddlers in the car! My daughter can have her markers and crayons in the caddy and the tray is great for lunches on the go!

  2. Trineke

I’d love to buy dollar store school supplies, but the schools here are so specific. Got my daughters list for first grade today and almost had a heart attack! I have four children to buy for!

Thankfully my fifth grader just has to send $100 to the teacher for supplies and $100 for field trips for the entire year.

    • drea25

I’m a teacher and also have 4 kids and that is really excessive. I stopped buying all the extras and my kids know if and when they run out to let me know and I’ll send them more. I also send in items as their teachers ask throughout the year. I can’t afford to supply the entire classroom with materials, I just can’t. When I make my classroom supply list each year I always adjust and if we have extra things left from the previous year then I tell the parents not to buy them. Sometimes I think teachers who don’t have kids don’t understand the parent side of it.

    • faithanne

      Wow!! That is crazy excessive!!!

    • MommySpendsLess

That seems very excessive. If there are 20 kids in the class and they all bring in everything listed that’s 120 reams of paper, 1,000 pushpins, 40 gallons of bleach and 160 bottles of hand sanitizer – for one classroom for one semester (August through December)?! Either they know that only a few kids will bring it all in or they’ve accidentally merged their classroom-wide list with their individual student list. Have you spoken with the teacher? I think I’d at least ask for clarification before buying all of that.
I chaperoned one of my daughter’s end of the year field trips (pre-COVID) and there was a shelf full of extra bottles of hand sanitizer. Since then I wait for her actual teachers to let us know what they really want/need before I buy the school district’s whole list.

    • Kerry

Judging from the list, that teacher is passing on financial responsibility for items that most teachers purchase themselves. Just send in the basics with your child’s name written clearly in Sharpie marker. Check with your child each week to see if they need any items or restocks. If they do, make sure your child’s name is written on them and send them in. Obviously your teacher has combined her “school supplies list” with her “wish list/donation list” and is hoping all his/her students will be covered by a few parents.

    • Pinky

Wow that is a rediculous request list from a teacher

    • JoyR

This list is unbelievable for an entire school year – let alone a single semester! I’m all for making sure the teachers have what they need, but this is beyond excessive. I’d be making some executive decisions and revising this list WAY down. I’m sorry they can even bother to expect this of you!

    • Mamamia

      Is this a private school?

    • Mamamia

We aren’t even allowed to use Lysol or bleach around the students. That is ridiculous to ask them to even bring them in!

  3. paul

Whaaat… gotta find that electric pencil sharpener.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hoping you spot it at your store, Paul!

  4. Judy

School supply lists have gotten longer and more brand specific in the last 10 years. School admin needs to cut these back now. Parents and grandparents are struggling to outfit first graders. Times are too hard for this.

  5. Casey

I get teachers have to buy a lot of things themself but parents cant afford to buy for the whole class. Some can barely afford to get what there kids need. They should be happy for what parents bring brand name or not.

    • Lori

Exactly! Unfortunately teachers here will send back Dollar Tree supplies, demand brand name stuff only. Ridiculous!

  6. FosterMomsNeverHaveEmptyNestSyndrome

Every single thing they wanted for my Kindergartner was name brand- I sent the things that I know are better as name brand ( crayons) and sent the other stuff that I can buy a whole lot cheaper- 48 pencils for 1.48- Presharpened! vs 12 Ticonderoga for 3.28?? No thanks. My middle schooler came home with two lists~ stuff to keep, and stuff for teachers. I will send stuff within reason, but a case of paper reams (colored and white) a 6pack of paper towels, seriously???
