Here’s How One Mom is Giving Back to School Custodians During the Coronavirus Pandemic
Michelle mentioned to us that her mom was looking for a way to thank those in her local community that are working extra hard during the Coronavirus pandemic. With many of us sending kids back to school, we know that our teachers are playing an extra important role this year. But often overlooked are the school janitors who are working long hours to help disinfect and transform classrooms to meet safety guidelines.
Janitors are essential to keeping things clean and running smoothly on a daily basis, and they definitely deserve our appreciation every day, but especially in times like these! ❤️
I have to share what my mom just made and delivered to the custodians at my husband’s school. Out of those who work at the school, he said it’s the custodians that are SO stressed. They are working ridiculous hours to clean 10 times more than they ever have, plus they’re installing plexiglass, and so much other stuff. She wanted a way to thank them, so she dropped this off at his school for them.
These gifts included a cooler full of drinks and a $50 Texas Roadhouse gift card for the boss, $25 Buffalo Wild Wings gift cards, and candies for the two assistants, as well as $10 McDonald’s gift cards, snacks, tangerines, power bars, and nuts.
I know the teachers are what everyone focuses on, but those custodians are working their butts off at these schools, too!
Thank you, Michelle, for sharing this idea with us! What an incredibly special way to give back to the community and honor those who are working extra hard to keep everyone safe during these times!
If you’re feeling inspired by her kindness, we have a list of gift ideas for education staff members to say thanks to those in your community as well!

What a gem you are 😁
this is really amazing. What an incredibly thoughtful idea. a little love goes a very long way.
That’s like the garbage men this year. How much more work have they had to do with all of the Covid Cleanouts everyone has done while stuck at home? People forget to tip them come Xmas all the time.
They get SOOO many tips in our area. Thousands of dollars. They send out Christmas cards with envelopes for customers to fill.
I do this every month for our entire school staff. Everyone gets a great!! It’s important to include everyone!
What a kind gesture this is! And I do agree, Rachel F. I am an elementary school librarian and doing my own disinfecting and cleaning. However, our custodians are great and deserve some kindness.
You can’t love this enough ❤️❤️❤️
Totally agree!
LoVe this!!!
These posts really help snowball generous and thoughtful gifts as well.
Thanks for the ideas!

Thanks so much from the wife of a high school custodian!
Oops, just realized I responded with my mom’s account and not mine! My husband is a high school custodian!
I bawled at this. I love how thoughtful people are! ❤
Love this. Shared on my Facebook feed. 🙂
This is tremendous on so many levels! Thank you for being caring, kind, and giving! 👏👏
Love this! She is so amazing!!
Such a kind, thoughtful, and generous gift! Our custodians work so hard, especially now with all the extra protections we need. I’m always trying to find great ideas on ways to support the guys. Thanks for sharing! 💗
This is awesome! I’m a para (teacher’s aide) and we do a lot of the things people don’t talk about in the school setting. Teachers, rightly, deserve credit for what they do, but it means so much when people look beyond the face of the class room and acknowledge all of the other people making it work.
