The 10 Most Popular (and Achievable) New Year’s Resolution Ideas for 2026
These New Year resolution ideas will help you easily create new habits in 2026.

New Year resolution ideas don’t have to feel cumbersome. There are several simple habits you can develop that will help you achieve your bigger goals for 2026.
After reading the book Atomic Habits and learning how many of my peers have also read it and were equally impressed, the concept of this book couldn’t feel more fitting for creating resolutions for the new year. ❤️
What are atomic habits?

The idea behind Atomic Habits is learning how to develop and start making tiny changes in your life so that they compound into greater habits that inevitably become life-changing. So to help you, we developed some habits to start in the new year that are both simple and effective.
Rather than bombarding yourself with lofty goals that may not ever be met, decide who you want to be in 2026 and start with some (or all) of our small changes first. Before you know it, your tiny habits will become big ones. 🙌🏼
On a side note, I highly recommend reading the book, too. 😉
Here are the 10 most popular (and achievable) New Year resolution ideas for 2026:
1. Eat Better Without Obsessing.

In 2026, the focus is shifting away from restrictive diets and all-or-nothing food rules. More people are choosing realistic, sustainable habits like mindful eating, simple ingredient swaps, and cooking more at home without the pressure to be “perfect.” It’s about fueling your body in a way that feels good and actually fits real life.
Factor makes eating better effortless. With our current deal, you can get chef-prepared, ready-to-heat meals delivered to your door – it’s one of Collin’s favorites! Making it easy to enjoy balanced, nutritious meals without meal planning, cooking stress, or obsessing over every bite.
2. Move More (but in a way that actually sticks).

Forget extreme fitness goals. This year is all about movement you actually enjoy and can stick with. Not burnout. Not punishment. Just moving your body in ways that feel good and support your long-term health. Think daily walks, gentle strength training, low-impact workouts, and building habits that don’t disappear after January.
One thing Collin fully embraced in 2025 and is carrying straight into 2026 is lifting weights. She didn’t go extreme, but stayed consistent. And that consistency is what made the biggest difference for her, both physically and mentally. Strength training has become something she genuinely looks forward to.
Another movement trend our team fell in love with in 2025 and has zero plans of stopping is walking with weighted vests. It’s such an easy way to level up something you’re already doing. You get stronger, build endurance, and support bone health without it feeling like a full workout. It’s simple. It works. And it fits into real life.
Simple ways to stay motivated without burning out:
• Start smaller than you think you need to
• Focus on consistency, not perfection
• Choose movement you don’t hate
• Stack habits. Walk while listening to a podcast. Lift while watching a show
• Celebrate showing up, even when it’s not perfect
3. Prioritize Mental Health Every Day.
Mental health is no longer something to “fix later.” People are building daily habits that support calm, clarity, and emotional well-being. Journaling, meditation, therapy tools, and reducing screen time are becoming everyday essentials instead of occasional resets.
According to usa.edu, journaling is proven to improve mental health, encourage self-confidence, boost emotional intelligence, help achieve goals, inspire creativity, boost memory, enhance critical thinking skills, heighten academic performance, improve physical health, and strengthen communication skills. The Five Minute Journal is a great tool to incorporate into your New Year.
4. Be More Present With Family & Friends.

The hustle mentality is fading fast. In 2026, more people are choosing meaningful connections over packed schedules. That means fewer distractions, more quality time, and creating moments that actually feel memorable.
Family conversation cards can be a wonderful way to start having more meaningful conversations at home, whether with a spouse, teens, or friends! Check out our top recommended conversation starter games!
5. Save More, Spend Smarter.

Instead of cutting everything out, people are getting intentional with their money. Building emergency funds, budgeting with purpose, and using deals strategically feels empowering, not restrictive. Saving is becoming a lifestyle, not a punishment.
Learn how to declutter your home so you can get more organized and avoid overspending this New Year. There are also plenty of budgeting apps to help keep you on track in 2026.
These are the 3 biggest mistakes consumers make in spending, to be sure to avoid these in the New Year as well:
- Stop trying to keep up. People trying to keep up with the Joneses by buying expensive cars and clothes that they can’t afford will ultimately live on borrowed money.
- Unnecessary overspending (like eating out!). Also, not keeping an eye on monthly payments for gym memberships, internet, cable, etc.
- Not having an emergency fund. Things happen – medical bills, damage, repairs for your home, etc. Try a money challenge to help yourself be better prepared for when an emergency comes up.
Take note of our top 3 money-saving tips for consumers:
- Know where your money is going and start budgeting. You can take baby steps and start small with a cash budget system. Just using envelopes for your weekly expenses can make a huge impact on your spending habits.
- Don’t compare or compete with others. You have no idea if the person driving a fancy car is swimming in credit card debt. Be practical about what YOU can afford.
- Pay yourself first. That’s where the emergency fund comes into play. Prioritize your long-term financial well-being and save money before spending on ANYTHING else. Make no exceptions.
6. Read More Books (for fun + growth).

Reading is back, and it’s not about hitting impossible goals. Small daily reading habits and realistic monthly challenges are helping people actually finish books. The focus is on enjoyment, learning, and carving out quiet time.
In fact, out of our 388K+ Instagram followers, they said that a Kindle was one of their best purchases in 2025, further solidifying that they’re planning to do much more reading in 2026!
7. Learn Something New (skill or hobby).

From gardening to language learning to creative hobbies like making sourdough bread, more people are prioritizing curiosity. Learning something new isn’t about productivity anymore. It’s about joy, creativity, and personal growth.
Our Hip sidekick, Lina, has loved using MasterClass as an easy, inspiring way to learn something new from world-class instructors. Plus, it can be on your schedule and purely for the joy of learning.
“I personally love MasterClass. The formatting is so easy to digest, and the topics are so GOOD! They range from wellness and health to decorating and cooking. There’s something for everyone here.” – Lina, Hip Sidekick
8. Travel More (even locally).

Travel in 2026 is about experiences, not just photos. Whether it’s a weekend road trip or exploring nearby towns, people are choosing memory-making over material things and finding adventure closer to home.
If you’re looking to get out of the house more in 2026, a GetOutPass could be just the ticket you and your family need! It gives you ticket-free access to tons of local attractions for 12 full months, and it’s an easy way to keep the kids busy. Read more about GetOutPass and why our team loves it.

9. Better Sleep (consistently).
Sleep is not optional. More people are realizing that better rest improves everything from mood to productivity. Simple routines, earlier screen cutoffs, and sleep-friendly environments are becoming non-negotiables.
Collin and a few of our other Hip sidekicks love the Oura ring to track sleep patterns, recovery, and readiness, helping them build better routines and make small adjustments that actually lead to more consistent, restful sleep.
Here are some other ways you can easily improve your sleep in 2026:
10. Build Stronger Daily Habits (not perfection).

The biggest resolution shift for 2026 is consistency over perfection. Small habits done daily are proving more powerful than big goals that burn out fast. (Psst…all the more reason to pick up a copy of Atomic Habits 😉). In 2026, it’s all about showing up, even when it’s not perfect.
