I used Bob Evan’s free delivery (through DoorDash) to have dinner dropped off to my senior citizen parents. It came right on time and my parents thought it was the coolest thing lol

That was so thoughtful! Wonderful idea!

Aww, How sweet! That’s great to hear, Casey! Thanks for sharing with us!

I saw on the news in my area that many of these delivery services get to keep such a high % of the sale that often restaurants make little or no money on these sales. You may want to check directly with the restaurant to see what’s best for them in case they offer their own delivery or if you’re flexible do a carryout so the restaurant will make some profit.

    • Brittany

I noticed on some restaurants that because they charge such a high %, the restaurants have to charge more to make up for it. One night we thought about ordering Panda Express and a rice bowl was just over $6 if we ordered it and picked it up from the restaurant but if we had it delivered, it was over $10 plus the delivery fee and plus tip, it came out to almost $20 for one meal.

I read the same thing. Hard for small businesses to afford the fees but they almost have no choice in order to make some money. Try to do carryout if you are able!

    • Shoppingfan

Exactly Emily! Local Custard shop that my son works for they make all sorts of desserts/treats however they are using Door Dash to gain more sales but it’s a 30% fee per sale. If you spend $8 with them, that’s $2.40! I hare that but they need the sales because many ppl don’t want to come out. They do curbside service which also helps. I hate this for small businesses.

I have friends who own restaurants – often they lose money on delivery and just consider it advertising cost. So if you possibly can, please consider picking up your meal, or use delivery now and then go to the restaurant to dine in as soon as you’re able. Many local places are doing fundraisers for employees, or you can buy gift cards now to spend later to help. Restaurants will usually be happy to bring your order to your car so you don’t have to go in, too.

I ordered Panera twice last week. Both times the driver didn’t bring my drink. I called Panera both times. The girl remembered doing my order (small town) so it had to be the driver. I never had issues before they used door dash. I could hear the door dash person talking loud on her speaker phone. Doing her job was the last thing on her mind. I know it’s not everyone. I just haven’t had good luck w/the door dash Uber eats deliveries. I know it’s small things but when you pay for something you should have it. Just my experience.

  4. Olga16

I deliver for Ubereats and during this time many restaurants has said they are happy that they can still have sales thru these deliveries. At least in my area that’s what I am seeing. This job has been such help for me and my family.

If you’re concerned about the fees from using Doordash or Grubhub, check to see if your local restaurants are providing delivery services themselves. Several restaurants in my area have brought back some of the wait staff and kitchen staff as drivers and they aren’t tacking on a gazillion fees.
