Although Black Friday and the 2020 holiday shopping season will look different from anything we’ve ever seen before, retailers and delivery companies are still preparing for a peak shopping season by hiring seasonal workers and offering thousands of jobs.
With a larger percentage of holiday shopping expected to take place online this year, online retailers like Amazon are expected to have a record year, along with delivery companies like FedEx and UPS. Even brick and mortar retailers are seeking seasonal employees to help with newly popular services like curbside pickup.
In addition to our shopping habits changing due to the pandemic, seasonal hiring practices have been adjusted too. Many employers have tried to streamline the interview process, moving much of it online and replacing face-to-face interviews with virtual meetings and phone calls instead.

1. Amazon is planning to hire 100,000 employees for seasonal jobs.
In the spring, Amazon hired 175,000 workers to help with the surge of orders it received at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Now, the online retail giant plans to hire 100,000 more workers for its fulfillment centers, delivery stations, sorting centers, and other sites. The company is also seeking to fill 33,000 tech and corporate positions.

2. Best Buy has a great reputation as a seasonal employer.
According to the job search site Glassdoor, working at Best Buy is a highly-rated holiday gig. Previous seasonal workers give the company high ratings for its culture, values, and career opportunities. Best Buy’s seasonal workers report that they’re often offered the chance to advance into full-time employment with the company after the holiday shopping season.

3. FedEx anticipates hiring 70,000 seasonal workers.

This year, Kohl’s is seeking to fill thousands of seasonal positions in its stores and distribution centers. Target has revealed its plan to double the number of workers managing its stores’ curbside pickup program, as this service is expected to remain very popular throughout the holiday season. The company is also offering seasonal jobs at its distribution centers.
Target’s minimum starting wage is $15 per hour, and seasonal employees also receive perks like flexible scheduling, masks for every shift, a store discount, free virtual doctor’s visits through the end of the year, and other health and wellness benefits. 7. UPS is hiring for 100,000 seasonal jobs.
UPS has announced plans to hire about 100,000 seasonal workers to manage the anticipated increase in package volume from October through January 2021. The full- and part-time positions available include package handlers, drivers, driver-helpers, and personal vehicle drivers.
In addition to attractive hourly pay rates, eligible seasonal employees who are students can earn up to $1,300 toward college expenses through UPS’s Earn and Learn program.
