What is Sling TV?
If you’re unfamiliar with Sling, it is the first app-based TV service that gives you the flexibility to stream live television and on-demand content. It’s super convenient to start using right away as their app is supported by the most popular brands of smart TVs and streaming devices including Fire TV, iOS or Android devices, ROKU, Chromecast, XBOX, and more.
Even better, each paid Sling TV package includes 50 hours of cloud-based DVR storage, so you never have to worry about missing your favorite live TV shows. If that’s not enough, you can always update to DVR Plus and get 200 hours for just $5 extra per month. Be sure to watch for a pop-up to score a month of DVR plus for FREE when you sign up today!
You can also easily purchase extra channels and premium add-ons to fully customize your monthly Sling TV subscription to meet your family’s ever-changing entertainment needs. Plus, a couple of their packages allow you to stream on multiple devices at the same time.

Check out what a couple of our team members had to say about Sling TV…
After our YouTube TV bill went up another $10 to over $80/month I went looking for something else and found a deal on SlingTV. I like the extra channels I get that I did not get with YouTube TV – like extra comedy stations, and you can also pick packages like pay a little more for scary channels or multiple AMC channels, etc. The only thing I don’t love is that DVR only holds up to 50 hours, whereas YouTube holds as much as you’d like. BUT since it’s $30 cheaper a month than YouTube TV I’ll live with that! – Hip Sidekick, Jessica
My boyfriend has Sling and another cool perk I love is the on-demand options. I canceled my Discovery Plus membership but I can watch all my favorite true crime shows via Sling on demand! – Hip Sidekick, Monica
Looks like you can only use the free streaming service if you have an Android and not an Apple Ipad or Iphone. Only option I see is to download from Google play? Anyone see know for sure?? Thanks
I figured it out, I had to use google as my search engine and not safari and it let me download the app. Thanks for sharing this with us !!!
So glad you were able to find it, Jennie!
I hope its ok to ask this question here –
I have been researching cutting the cord/options. May I ask what brand antenna you suggest? Also, what are you doing for landline, and internet….thanks
Hi Eileen,
We use a Mohu Arc Pro Indoor Amplified Antenna and also a GE Amplified Indoor Antenna. I paid over $50 for the Mohu, and only $23 for the GE antenna at Dollar General. The GE Amplified Indoor Antenna works awesome. We bought Roku devices for each of our 5 TVs. Our internet service is through our local phone company TDS Telecom. We have a landline and also use cell phones. I only pay for Netflix and Peacock. We recently discovered Tubi and this streaming app is awesome and free.
We use a SuperBox. I purchased it on Amazon for $330ish. There are NO SUBSCRIPTION FEES. I can watch any USA channel, including premium channels. HBO, Starz, etc. It also has shows and movies on demand. I don’t know why no one knows about the Super Box, total game changer! Just needs to be plugged directly into the router or a router extension box. I got one for my son’s college dorm. He gets EVERY SPORTS GAME!
Can I watch local news stations with any of these….I’m in Atlanta
Hey there, Rn404. When checking into this, I received the message – “Channel availability is dependent on your location. Please enter your billing ZIP code to check your area’s lineup.” You might click through the link to enter your zip code to be sure about availability. It does look like you can customize your package with add-ons too. π
Rn404, not sure if you’ve tried this in your area, but we cut the cord over 6 years ago. Have nothing but a $40 attic antenna hooked up to our TV. Get local channels, PBS, ION, a few others, but obviously, all dependent on reception. We cut the cord and have not looked back and certainly don’t miss the monthly payments.
For the free βwith adsβ option, does anyone know if the Hallmark channel is included?
Hey melbeezie. π€ I signed up for an account to check on this, and found the add-on for Hallmark is priced at $6/month for the “Hallmark Movies Now” subscription, with no long-term commitment. Hope that helps! π
How sweet of you to do all of that work to answer my question!! Thank you so much for checking. You all are THE best!π₯³
You’re very welcome, happy to help!! β€οΈ I was super surprised to see the variety of shows and channels available – and that you don’t need a credit card on file when you sign-up. π If you’re interested in adding another option to your streaming rotation, I’d definitely check this one out! π€
Via the app HOOPLA you can link your public library card and watch Hallmark+ for 7 days of unlimited access. Then it refreshes again each month.
Thank you for this tip!!π
If this post is about how to watch the debate, itβs broadcast live on all the alphabet channels, abc, cbs, nbc, fox, etc. I checked my youtubetv line up and debate is on all of those. Those are usually free channels even without streaming arenβt they?
Thanks for sharing some other free ways to watch the debate, siena95! π
You would need Peacock for NBC (peacock has Hallmark movies too), Paramount plus for CBS, ABC and FOX I think is hulu. You can see clips on fox.com or cbs.com but not entire series or new shows. Sometimes satellite picks up all the basic channels, depends where you live.
If you have a Roku device, they have a tab just for election coverage and it includes ABC, NBC and CBS on their own Roku channel app too π
Awesome! Appreciate the heads up on how to watch with a Roku, Laura! π
