Here’s what our Hip team shared about their Spring Break Traditions:
“Spring Break trips have always been about making memories for us—choosing experiences over things. We love exploring new places together, and this year was extra special. It was my daughter’s last Spring Break at home, so when we asked where she wanted to go, she said Italy… and we made it happen.
I can’t even put into words how much this trip meant. Watching her take it all in, knowing this season of life is shifting, hit me in ways I didn’t expect. I’m beyond grateful we had this time together, fully present, away from work, away from distractions—just us, soaking it all in.
I shared our Italy adventures on Instagram stories here—it’s a trip I’ll hold close forever. ” – Collin
“Our family typically goes on a big Spring break trip because it usually lands right around our anniversary/birthdays. We plan somewhere new to go every year, but this year we’ve decided to stay home and plan fun and affordable things to do after work! My kiddos are on Spring Break this week and we’ve got plans pretty much every day. We are going hiking/geocaching at a state park, heading to a nearby waterpark, Dave & Buster’s for 50% off games, bike riding, getting pizza and ice cream downtown, and a beach night! “ – Liz
“We travel for spring break since it’s usually around our birthdays/anniversaries. We used to go to an Orlando resort every year so I could park myself in their lazy river in a floaty tube and eat fries all day but then everyone else found out about it and it just got way too crowded for us. So we discovered some really nice, yet still affordable villas with private pools in Orlando and it’s the best thing ever. Our villa also had a movie theater, pool table, and game room. Each one has a different theme, so it’s super fun if you’re staying with littles. Orlando is our go-to because there’s just so much to do but we try to plan our vacays before the spring break craziness hits and all the high school and college kiddos hit the beaches/theme parks. This year we had to settle for a staycation since the hubs is healing from an injury but the weather was wonderful and we found plenty to do.” – Cass
“We always go somewhere during my son’s spring break and in years past we have combined our vacation with wherever my husband had to go for travel during that week for work. We went to really exciting places like Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New Orleans, and more. Our go-to place is Orlando, as my husband’s aunt lives a half hour away so we can usually stay with her. This year we’re going to Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure/Volcano Bay and staying on property. Later this summer we will do our yearly trip to Door County, WI – we started that during COVID because it’s like an off-grid adventure and we love it.” – Denise
Some of our Hip sidekicks don’t get a chance to celebrate Spring Break at all.
“We don’t typically do much for spring break. We sometimes would try and find some local things to do here and there, but nothing crazy.” – Melinda
“We don’t do a spring break trip, since my kids only have had a long weekend or two off from school in the spring. It usually lands around my son’s birthday and we find fun things to do in the area or plan a quick day trip to a large mall or fun event. We save our vacation trip planning for the summer. “ – Amber
“When our kids were younger we did spring break trips, but as older kids have jobs and sports and different schedules spring breaks are harder. Prices get expensive too right now for everything. Plus, in Phoenix, we usually have amazing weather right now so it’s hard to want to go anywhere else. We sometimes do a weekend staycation or at the very least catch a spring training baseball game like we did this weekend, when my oldest was home! We’re excited to plan a Florida Keys family vacation for June though!” – Lina
“Our kiddos here don’t really get a spring break – nothing more than a couple of 4-day weekends throughout March/April but that’s it. With so many family birthdays and sports this time of year, we are too busy to navigate a Spring break trip. Summer starts at the end of May though so we look forward to a summer trip when they’re home.” – Sara
“The school does get a week off in April, but we don’t usually do a Spring Break trip here. if anything, just a quick weekend trip somewhere local-ish for shopping. Otherwise, we mostly use that week for projects around the house/outside.
We get three weeks of vacation in September & October, so we tend to take our “Spring Break” trip then. The weather is better, less people have those weeks off so crowds are less of an issue, and it’s kind of like a last hurrah before the weather gets yucky and we stop traveling as much.” – Liza
We can’t wait to hear all about your Spring Break traditions and celebrate the start of a fresh new season with our amazing community! Let’s welcome March with open arms, spread love, and inspire each other as we embrace all the beauty that spring has to offer.
Happy Spring from all of us at Hip2Save! We love and appreciate you all.
We try to rest at home and enjoy the week.
We do not travel during Spring Break anymore since our kids are grown. Instead, we celebrate the lack of traffic in Houston, eat out more, happy hours on patios and attend the Houston Rodeo.
My husband and I do a “reverse” Spring Break in that we drive up to the Pacific Northwest and retrieve our daughter’s dogs and bring them to sunny California for a few weeks. This trip allows our daughter much needed time for herself, allows her dogs time to enjoy some CA sunshine and their doting “grandparents” time to spoil these fur babies. We all enjoy ourselves and look forward to our unique Spring Break annually.
We don’t take a trip during our official spring break but we do go to Florida in April for my daughter’s cheer championship.
I love Spring Break, it always comes right when I’m starting to go stir crazy from winter. This year we are heading to South Carolina! I can’t wait to read by the beach and morning sunrise walks.
We try to do an amusement park like Disneyland, Seaworld, Universal Studios, etc. Last year we went camping. Happy spring break Hip2Save!
I take a few days off to hang out with my college aged kids when they’re home for spring break.
We didnt take one this year *but* we have in the past and I highly recommend spring break trips especially if your schools have an early March break. We went to Disney/Universal last year during this time and had a great time with the added plus of being able to save quite a bit of money due to the time of year we were traveling. So many people will tell my adult daughter they cant afford a Disney trip and she tells them they havent met me and yes they can! I stayed in a hotel very close to the parks that provided not only free breakfast but a dinner time meal every day and that is just one of the huge savings….The rates at the hotel alone had not hit peak yet so the free meals plus the lower rate made 1/2 the cost of this trip a whole lot less and this was no dive hotel….so yeah i highly recommend spring break and we even have a school fall break and love to travel that time of year too (October) as you are past peak season of summer but havent hit holiday peak yet…i may have to plan a trip today as talking about it has made me want to go!!! Everybody enjoy your spring breaks and plan something fun for next year if you cant swing it this year…We all need something to look forward to!
We have our kids a spring break trip to DC for Christmas. It was the best gift! It gave us something to look forward to. It was the most memorable trip we’ve had in years! Gifting a spring break trip was their favorite gift and a new tradition!
Traveling a few weeks after spring break this year. That’s just the way it worked out.
Yes! We usually travel on spring break. This year, we are travelling to visit my in-laws (RI to VA by way of Washington DC.) Usually we plan our trips by cheap flights. I will plan by using Google Flights (using dates and 2 nearby airports to search for the best deal.) I will also review Breeze since they fly into our small airport. I gather the cheap places and start researching what each place has to offer by using Atlas Obscura, unique things to do in a search engine (as well as unique restaurants.) I always want to find the things or places to eat that we don’t have at home ex. like the crystal grotto in Memphis or Truck henge in Topeka. Top foods I look for in each place to please the whole family: Breweries (for my husband), donuts (for me), ice cream (the kids), pizza (everyone). I check out Groupon for deals. Once I have compiled if a place has enough to entertain us for a few days I present it to my husband. A decision is made and I book it! I am a HUGE fan of Expedia and VRBO. I love their loyalty programs. I am not loyal to an airline but always go with the best price. I then open a collection through my Yelp account and start saving things in there that I think we would be interested in doing. What’s great about this: it creates a map! This way we can be efficient! A brewery is next to an ice cream shop? Done! Rental Cars? We get a discount through my husbands job- nice perk. I think our family all have different opinions of favorite places. My husband loves working class cities so Pittsburg and Milwaukee top his list. My daughter loved Charlotte. My 4 year old was obsessed with a cruise (ice cream anytime!) and I just love travelling! I am open to it all. But I guess If I had to choose… I want to go back to Honduras. The private beach looked right out of a calendar photo!
We don’t often take a spring break trip, but last year we went to Disneyland and it was perfect! Usually we spend time around home taking walks, movies, and trying fun restaurants!
My family and I love to go on cruises for spring break, anywhere warm and sunny.
No traveling this yr. Everything got so expensive. We were happy to have the kids off school to play board games, take hikes and ride bikes with lots of picnic lunches. Made lots of memories and only cost our time.
No, we don’t go anywhere. Our kids are all grown and have their own families. We did summer trips when they were home. Sometimes we would go on short trips locally for Spring break. Pretty soon my husband will retire and we plan on doing some trips across the USA. Thank you for the opportunity to win. It is fun reading everyone’s comments.
We don’t usually travel for Spring break. We just enjoy relaxing together at home.
We don’t usually go for a spring break trip, but decided on a Florida trip in February and it was wonderful!
We never used to take a spring break trip until our youngest went to college. Now we get to go see her. Bonus that she choose a nice warm location.
We absolutely travel during Spring Break!!! We were in the habit of going to Florida every year and visiting one of the big theme parks and a day or two at the beach. It really started to feel tiresome, and we were all getting burned out by the same trip year after year. Last year we implemented a Spring Break family discussion over dinner to decide where we want to go and what we’d like to see or do while on break. It’s been so much fun letting the girls have some say in where we go and the activities we do! Even better, we leave some time that we don’t schedule and wing it a few days once we arrive, giving this momma a break from constant planning! Last year was New Orleans with a rental home in the French Quarter! We came home so excited about our trip we immediately started talking about where we would venture to the next year. It was truly one of the best family vacations we have had and excited to head to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg this year for break!
Just a short trip from Maryland to Virginia, but we’re looking forward to it!
No Spring Break fun for us. The adults are working and the kids are going to a local program to keep them busy for the week. My kids are very disappointed that we couldn’t fit in some fun – specifically a trip out of town – but maybe next year!
No spring break trip for me – just the usual work grind! I have to travel for work during the year, so I don’t typically end up taking many personal trips.
We are heading to Chicago! We love the Windy City for all the amazing museums, shopping and attractions. We have family in Chicago, so we save on lodging and food and get to see our precious nephew! Win! Win!
We don’t take a spring break trip bc I have one that’s homeschooled and two in public school. My son in high school plays sports and had a game during spring break. Also, my husband hasn’t been at his job all that long, so he had to work. We usually stay home during spring break anyway to get stuff done around the house bc we’re such a busy family.
I love to travel, but typically avoid spring break time! I prefer to take trips in the fall when popular tourist places are less crowded.
We usually do a r & r staycation bc we need it by that time with school. (Plus, I’m a southern girl and springtime feels cold to me!)
I went to the mountains of NC for a few days to visit family! One of my favorite places! I live to be in the mountains!
No spring break vacation for us. We have to work so the kids need to entertain themselves.
Hey guys! So if we do anything it’s typically getting a hotel a few cities over and exploring the the city; otherwise, family movie nights few days out the week to play catch up on what /time we missed while in school and running around with sports
Yes! This is my youngest son’s senior spring break. We’re going on a cruise with 7 of his friends(and parents) and to universal studios. This is the 4th spring break cruise my son and I have taken together but first with my husband(dad). I’m hoping to keep it going through his upcoming college years too!
We’re doing a Disneyland trip this Spring Break. Thank you Hip2Save team!
You’re welcome, Jenny!
Good luck on this month’s giveaway – and have the best time at Disney!

We switch it up!! One year we travel the next year we’ll do a staycation – This is how we discovered Waco, TX too which is SUCH an adorable eclectic town with everything from trendy to antiquated!!
We took my youngest son to visit his grandfather who’s in a nursing home. Afterwards we went to Orlando to visit his older brother and sister who are both at UCF. We didn’t want to deal with the spring break crowds so we found other cheap or free things to do in the area- Mead botanical garden, Apollo beach, shopping at IKEA, watching a rocket launch in Titusville, etc.
It was fun just being together!
We visit family in Florida every year. By that time we are so ready to get out of Michigan and head somewhere warm and spend time with family!
We try to do a little vaca right before or after vacation. So much cheaper! and we dont go anywhere far since one of us in the family will end up not sleeping well.
We usually do go away on Spring Break. Since I worked in our children’s school district I had the same time off as they did so we have taken a Spring break vacation for at least the past 30 years. Even after they graduated I continued to work in the school district so we kept going. I retired last June so this “school” year my husband and I were so excited to not take a Spring vacation during the peak break times…but busyness got in the way so we kept putting off a trip and finally decided we need some sun so we are headed to Florida (we live in OH)…you guessed it…right in the middle of all the schools Spring breaks. Oh well, maybe next year
I often take a Spring Break trip. This year, one of my besties and I will be heading to Bermuda on a cruise. Last year I did the same trip, but on a different ship and solo! Turns out plenty of other people travel by themselves and I made some new friends!
Our kids are now grown and have their own kids so we have become a popular spring break destination for them! We do love to travel, though, and have the flexibility to go when it’s not as busy at some of the popular destinations. We love the warmer weather so Florida is a favorite spot in the winter for us to travel!
We are actually driving back from a family trip to Keystone Colorado as I type this. My husband and our four teenaged children went out and stayed in a condo with my husband’s 3 brothers and their wives. Plus my parents in law. Most of the family skied three days. Now we get home in time to sit on the couch and not move while we watch the NCAA basketball tournament. It’s a big deal for my husband and I as it is how we met 22 years ago
Staycation for us:)
Us too. Maybe next year we’ll go someplace!
When I was a kid, my parents never traveled. They didn’t have the time, money or desire. I never went anywhere on spring break. Now I’m an adult and guess what? I also never travel because it’s too expensive, so my kids have never gone on spring break vacation either. I can’t understand how people can afford to travel, even with discounts and deals. I can barely afford to pay to live, so getting to go someplace just for fun is foreign to me. And even doing things around my own city is either too expensive or too crowded; plus I don’t know how people get time off to travel–my job doesn’t afford me the time to go anywhere. If I take a day off, I have to work twice as hard to catch up when I return, so it’s not even worth it.
We will be babysitting our first and only granddaughter. She’s 2 so it’s gigi and papa time! Miss her so much due to 7 hour drive.
We normally don’t do much but this year I’d like to go see my 88 year old mom who moved to Arizona last year. I haven’t seen her in over a year now.
We just enjoy a week at home of sleeping in and no schedules. I can’t wait!!
We usually take a spring break trip to the Smokies for a few days.
As an adult, I do nothing special during spring break. I don’t really have spring break. But when I was younger, I would write or redecorate my room with a rotating collection of posters and items. And play video games!
We do a staycation. Go to the Dallas Arberetum and the dallas zoo
We went our for a vacation last spring. We won’t be going anywhere this time coz I lost my job. Hopefully next year.
Since we are self employed/retired we can take a vacation whenever we want – typically go in winter to a warmer place.
