2026 Tax-Free Weekend Shopping Dates by State
Get ready to save on school supplies with this year’s back-to-school tax-free weekends!

Select states (see the list below) offer Sales Tax “Holiday” weekends during the summer, which allow shoppers to save money on their back-to-school shopping for clothing, footwear, school supplies, computers, and other items by not having to pay sales tax.
Amazon, Walmart, Target, and many other large online retailers participate in Tax-Free Holidays too, which means that you can do your shopping from home without adding sales tax too! 🙌
Here’s the list of dates for states offering back-to-school tax-free weekend shopping in 2026…
Alabama:
- Dates: July 17-19, 2026
- Save on: Clothing (up to $156 per item), computers, computer software, and school computer supplies (up to $1,173), school supplies, school art supplies, and instructional materials (up to $78 per item), and books (up to $47 per book).
Arkansas:
- Dates: August 1-2, 2026
- Save on: Clothing and footwear (under $100 per item), clothing accessories (under $50 per item), plus school supplies, school art supplies, school instructional materials, and electronic devices with no price limit.
Connecticut:
- Dates: August 16-22, 2026
- Save on clothing and footwear (up to $300 per item), plus basic school supplies like backpacks, lunch boxes, notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, rulers, and paper with no price limit.
Florida:
- Dates: July 20-August 20, 2026
- Save on: Clothing, footwear, accessories, wallets, and bags (up to $100 per item), school supplies (up to $50 per item), learning aids and jigsaw puzzles (up to $30 per item), and personal computers and eligible computer accessories (up to $1,500 per purchase).
Iowa:
- Dates: August 7-8, 2026
- Save on: Clothing and footwear (under $100 per item). Iowa’s tax holiday does not include school supplies, computers, backpacks, or clothing accessories.
Maryland:
- Dates: August 9-15, 2026
- Save on: Clothing and footwear (up to $100 per item) and the first $40 of each backpack or bookbag. Clothing accessories (other than backpacks) are not included.
Mississippi:
- Dates: July 10-12, 2026
- Save on: Clothing, footwear, and school supplies (under $100 per item). Keep in mind that some municipalities may opt out of the local sales tax exemption, so local tax could still apply depending on where you shop.
Missouri:
- Dates: August 7-9, 2026
- Save on: Clothing (up to $100 per item), school supplies (up to $50 per item), graphing calculators (up to $150 per item), computer software (up to $350 per item), and computers and eligible computer peripheral devices (up to $1,500 per purchase).
New Mexico:
- Dates: July 31-August 2, 2026
- Save on: Clothing, footwear, backpacks, bookbags, maps, and globes (under $100 per item), school supplies (under $30 per item), handheld calculators (under $200), computers (up to $1,000), and eligible computer hardware (up to $500).
Ohio:
- Dates: August 7-9, 2026
- Save on: Clothing (up to $75 per item), school supplies (up to $20 per item), and school instructional materials (up to $20 per item). Note: There will be no expanded sales tax holiday on items $500 and under in 2026.
Oklahoma:
- Dates: August 7-9, 2026
- Save on: Clothing and footwear (under $100 per item). Oklahoma’s sales tax holiday does not include school supplies, backpacks, or computers.
South Carolina:
- Dates: August 7-9, 2026
- Save on: Clothing, footwear, clothing accessories, school supplies, computers, printers, computer software, and select bed and bath items. No price limits on qualifying purchases.
Tennessee:
- Dates: July 31-August 2, 2026
- Save on: Clothing (up to $100 per item), school supplies and school art supplies (up to $100 per item), and computers (up to $1,500 per item). Textbooks are tax-free with no price limit.
Texas:
- Dates: August 7-9, 2026
- Save on: Clothing, footwear, school supplies, and backpacks (under $100 per item). Qualifying items purchased in-store, online, by phone, or by mail during the tax-free weekend are exempt from sales tax.
Virginia:
- Dates: August 7-9, 2026
- Save on: Clothing and footwear (up to $100 per item), school supplies (up to $20 per item).
West Virginia:
- Dates: July 31-August 3, 2026
- Save on: Clothing and footwear (up to $125 per item), school supplies (up to $50 per item), school instructional materials (up to $20 per item), sports equipment (up to $150 per item), and laptops and tablets (up to $500 per item).
