More Happy Friday

Easy access to your makeup! 💄

It’s so simple for a makeup section to become a mess within seconds, but, thanks to this week’s Happy Friday reader, Kyra, we’re aware of the ultimate organization hack, and you’re only going to need three items!

You’ll need a picture frame of your choice, a metallic sheet (size must correspond with the frame), and magnetic tape. This can average to $20 depending on how you approach it, and the result is an aesthetically pleasing and extremely organized display of your makeup!

I saw this idea on Pinterest and wanted to share it. If you’re looking for a way to organize makeup and get easy access at the same time, this might be the tip for you! All you need is a frame, metallic sheet, and magnetic tape. Keep your cosmetics on hand. It’s as easy as 1-2-3!

Hobby Lobby Photo Frames

1. Choose your frame. I found my frame on clearance on Tuesday morning. Ideally, look for something that has a hook on the back to hang it up. Mine had a ribbon already attached, so it was perfect.

2. Get a metal sheet (and have it cut to size if needed). Measure the interior and then buy a sheet that can hold magnets. I found mine at a local big box store, but it was too big.

I ended up taking it to a small hardware store to get it cut to size (cost a few dollars). You then carefully place the metal sheet in the frame. Be careful, as the edges of the cut sheet can be sharp.

3. Cut and stick on your magnetic tape. I purchased my magnetic tape at Joanne’s craft store, but you can also find this type of tape online at Amazon, etc. It comes in a roll or on a flat sheet. Simply choose the makeup you want to include on your board, and peel and stick the tape on the back.

Some makeup is too heavy to place on the metallic sheet, so test it as you’re choosing. I purchased some of the makeup you see on my frame through deals I saw on Hip2Save!

Once you’re done, hang the frame on the wall. Voila! You have your makeup handy, not hiding in a drawer. No more digging through to get the items you need.

In total, materials for this project cost less than $20. You could also have the frame free standing if it has an easel back. Happy framing!

Thank you, Kyra, for giving us this awesome hip tip! No more digging through our makeup bags to find a specific product, and I also love how cute the frame looks! We know makeup is art, but who knew it could also be bathroom decor? 😍

  2. Misty

I am surprised there isn’t a cosmetic company that hasn’t tried selling g this yet!

    • riss

I agree. And this one is golden esp for those who do not have much space to store their make up.

  3. Tracy Lovasz

    Wow! Great idea.

Watch what type of metal you purchase – the link takes you to aluminum which is not magnetic. Great idea, though!

    • JMonte509

Good catch. Please post the link for a sheet of metal that will work for this project. Super interested in making these for my three daughters who share a bathroom

Sorry for any confusion! That link has been updated. 💞

Whoops! Thanks so much for catching that! 💞The link has been updated.🤗

Seems very unsanitary and who wants to look at their makeup anyway? It can only really be used for pallets anyway. Just tacky in my opinion.

I suppose you could use a frame or shadow box with hinge so you could swing it open to access. If so you could put a pretty picture on the front so you can’t see the contents unless it’s open.

Who wants to look at their makeup ??!! Me, me, me !! I spend SO much on makeup and skincare that i personally hate having it all thrown in drawers. I like to see it. NO….i L❤️VE to see it !! Makeup companies thrive to make their packaging new, innovative & unique for that specific reason. I have shelves and i put all my stuff neatly on there. Yes i have and always will have drawers where stuff is haphazardly thrown in but im ok with that too. I understand tho that people dont have the same obsession as me with this type product. But i will disagree with the unsanitary part. While i have various things strewn all over, im very careful about sanitary issues. I do think that this idea makes it less unsanitary than a drawer people would be riffling thru.

Also i dont think many women can deny the fact that at some point in their life they have had some sort of a compact, pressed powder, powder foundation etc open up in a make up bag or drawer (worse – your handbag🤦🏼‍♀️). This idea can help to eliminate that happening at home.

I totally agree! My brother made one of these for my SIL and it was sooo cute! He even added some magnets to various holders so she could put her mascara, eyeliner, brushes, and other slim or oddly shaped makeup containers on the board too. I think he was inspired by some ideas he saw on Pinterest (and her dropping lots of hints lol!)

I have done this and used magnetic push pins for a necklace hanger.

  8. Csandst1

You could use a Dollar Tree cookie sheet and paint it whatever color you like.

  9. Kay

Cool n pretty concept, but too much work for me. I’m going to get a pretty wall shelf instead. I see a lot of pretty shelves at stores like Ross, TJ MAXX, etc

    • Deb E

I agree Kay! I don’t wear makeup but I also live in earthquake country so I don’t hang anything on the walls. Nope, not a thing except for paper calendars. I might use the magnet box for something else when I move away from the quaking earth though. It is a clever idea and may be worth spending the time to make to display something pretty like jewelry.
