Does anyone know how long this sale will last?

  • Holly R says:

is this in their ad? Faily Dollar does not allow for free products-not fair!!!!

    • Heather W says:

Family Dollar or Dollar General doesn’t let you? My Dollar General won’t with printables I know that, but my Family Dollar lets me with both.

    • Bobbi says:

I got free Gillette body wash with the $4/2 coupon at two different Dollar General stores and had no problems.

    • S says:

Its not a “free” coupon, its $1 off 2, making it free. I know for a fact that these types of coupons are allowed because I got the Dentastix a few weeks back only paying tax.. and at Family Dollar I stocked up on $3 snuggle for the price of tax only.
I am not sure how these stores handle coupons that state “free” on them though.

  • Kimberly says:

Sweet! I love free stuff – especially FOOD! I can’t wait to see if my DG has these! I shared your post with my readers: http://www.homemakingexpert.com/2010/05/free-hot-dogs-at-dollar-general.html

  • amanda says:

Dollar General “MARKET” has these. It’s half Dollar General/ half grocery store. I checked my ad, but didn’t see this on sale. I’ll have to go in tomorrow and check! Love free hot dogs!

  • Kate says:

When I went in to get free deodorant from Dollar General a few weeks ago I was told by their manager that the corporate policy is they will not take coupons that make a product free. He did let me get the deodorant for free, but wanted to let me know their corporate policy on coupons.

  • Brianne says:

I would for sure be checking. And have them price check it if the tag is saying a different price. I was in the other day and I got a box of DampRid. The tag said $2 but it rang up $1.75 plus I had a MQ for $1 off so even cheaper! Whoo Hoo! I will be checking my DG this afternoon. Thanks, HIP

I didn’t ask my Dollar General, but my $4.00 Nivea body wash coupons gave me an overage of $1.50 for each bottle I bought. I added a box of Hefty garbage bags and some candy and only paid $.52 OOP. There were no beeps or anything from the cash register.

  • Deanna says:

This is their coupon policy from their website – I see no where that it states you can’t use coupons that will “make” an item free or that you can’t use a Free item coupon – only ones that are a Free item coupons that are printed online should be declined.

Dollar General is pleased to accept Manufacturer’s Coupons and Dollar General Store Coupons at any of our more than 8,700 stores. These coupons come from a variety of sources, including, but not limited to, newspapers, magazines, print-at-home (internet), direct mail, product packaging, and in-store coupon boxes.

Our coupon requirements are as follows:

    2. Coupons must have a scan-able barcode
    3. Coupons must have an expiration date
    4. Coupons may be used only on products sold at Dollar General, and must match exactly to the item as it is packaged and sold at Dollar General.
    5. Coupons must clearly say “Manufacturers Coupon” or “Dollar General Store Coupon”

Dollar General will NOT accept the following:
    1. Manufacturer’s coupons that do not scan, or Dollar General Store Coupons with an invalid promotional code
    2. Expired Coupons
    3. Coupons for products not sold at Dollar General
    4. FREE Item coupon if printed from the Internet, unless a purchase is required (example: a “buy one, get one free” is acceptable).

In addition, unless the coupons state otherwise, you may use multiple coupons in one transaction. You may also use a Dollar General coupon along with a Manufacturer’s coupon for the same item, as long as neither coupon states otherwise.

yah, i went to dollar general for the first time a couple weeks ago to get free items with coupons… and they wouldn’t accept them– said they couldn’t take coupons for items that would end up being free… she said there was a memo sent out to all dollar general stores stating this. bummer. :(

  • Barbie says:

I did not have problems getting the hot dogs for free~I think in part because the coupon came from a Sunday paper. However, I did take in 2 coupons for .50 off Old El Paso product that I used for taco seasoning. I go in there about every other day and every one there knows me. But you would think I was passing counterfeit money. Everyone in there, including the manager, had to look at the coupons and guess whether they would scan. They DID scan fine, but the cashier still looked at me as if something was really, really wrong. Printed them off Coupons.com yesterday and the seasoning was .90 to begin with, so .40 after each coupon.

I would like to add, although you can score these for free, they are not good IMHO. Id rather spend the money and get ones that taste better. Just some friendly advice. Kids would probally eat em no matter what, but being an adult…..Yuck!! lol

    • Jessica says:

I agree they were gross and my kids didnt like them

      • Kim says:

I have to disagree. I’ve eaten them and served them at bbqs and everyone said they were good. I understand taste preferences, but your comments make it sound like they taste horrible. And lets be honest. A dollar pack of hot dogs isn’t going to taste like a $4 pack of Oscar Mayer all beef dogs.

  • Anonymous says:

I am not seeing this in my 5/16 Smart Source…I have several copies and looked through them all, possibly a regional coupon?

  • Diane says:

does anyone know where can find the coupon? I only got one for deli meat

  • Jennifer S says:

My dollar general didn’t carry them. But they did refill their dentistix for my dogs! Yay!

  • Melissa R. says:

I checked two local Dollar General stores and neither carries this brand. However, I do appreciate the info and the chance to get in on the deal.

  • Abey says:

They also have these at Wal-Mart for 88 cents a package, however, there is something about hot dogs that are that cheap that just gross me out!!! I will pay a bit more for the better ones.

  • kelli says:

I was going to ask if anyone has ever tried these, so I’m glad people posted about their taste. I was shocked to see “America’s #1 Hot Dog!” written on the package. I’ve never even heard of this brand before! I don’t even know if they’d be worth the time, even if they are free.

    • Kim says:

Don’t let a few people’s comments keep you from even trying them. I’ve tried them, and thought they were fine. No, they’re not as good as an expensive brand, but there is certainly nothing wrong with them.

      • Barbie says:

Yes, I fail to see the harm in trying a free product. I could see the point in warning people off if they actually had something invested in it.

But, I do trust that people reading this blog take all such opinions with a grain of salt. I would have missed out on some great products if I had heeded all advice from here.

Suppose someone needs 20 packs for a church gathering and is working within a tight budget?

  • Roselyn says:

Hey Collin, This is funny, when the coupons came out in the Sunday paper and had the one for the “Bar S” brand, I told my husband about it and we had a laugh! There’s a nudist gathering place in our county named the “Bar S”!

  • Megan says:

I disagree. My family (aunts, uncles, parents, etc) love the Bar S brand! We usually ONLY buy them. They are MUCH better than “name” brand in our opinion. :D

  • Jennifer says:

I used a $3 off 2 $1.50 deod. once at a Family Dollar. The cashier looked at me and said questioningly, that would be free. I don’t think I can do that. lol. That’s the point in using the coupon when the items are on sale. I did finally get them. She had to call the manager though.

  • elisabeth says:

Yes, these worked fine for me! I got 20 packages which I am donating to my local church. I am going to see if Walmart will price match because I bought more coups and don’t wanna clear the shelves at Dollar General. They are not the best IMO, I like Oscar Mayer Beef, but for free, who can pass that up?
