Birchbox: My Monthly Splurge…

Hip2Save may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you via trusted partners and affiliate links in this post. Prices and availability are accurate as of time posted. Read our full disclosure policy here.

So, I recently received yet another box from Birchbox (if you are unsure what I’m talking about – skip below to read more)! I just love how they take the time to package everything so nicely. In my box I received the following goodies…

* Zoya Nail Polish
* Vial of Atelier Cologne
* BORGHESE Fango Active Mud for Face & Body (Nice Size!)
* LaROCCA Champagne and Shimmer Supreme Creme (Smells so good!)
* Really cute bracelet

This has probably been my favorite box to date! I know this is not for everyone… but (in my opinion) it has been worth the $10 I pay every month. I love looking forward to these boxes ~ it’s the simple things for me!

Did you sign up for Birchbox when I’ve posted about them previously?! If so, I’d love to hear your feedback!

And for all you new Hip2Savers (or anyone who may have missed this post previously)… if you love trying out new beauty products or just want to treat yourself to a special surprise every month, then you may want to check out Birchbox. For $10 a month, Birchbox delivers 4 to 5 hand-picked, deluxe beauty samples from high-end brands. Each month you’ll receive a different mix of beauty products, including makeup, skincare, fragrance, body, and hair products. All samples are generously sized, with enough product to allow you to figure out if they’re right for you.

And Birchbox does customize the boxes (that’s why you fill out your Beauty Profile). Some samples are sent to everyone, other samples are chosen specifically for your skin, beauty needs, and style. Keep in mind that all you pay is your $10 monthly subscription fee; there are no shipping or handling fees for the monthly Birchbox and you can cancel at anytime. So you really are under NO obligation.

Now I know that you are probably thinkin’ there are free sample offers always available on Hip2Save, so why would I pay for samples. Well, if you are a fan of high end cosmetic products, then you are basically getting to try lots of these products on a regular basis for a fraction of the retail cost. Even sweeter, these are not your typical samples…. most will be deluxe samples and you may even receive full-size products (just like I did with some of the products I mentioned above). And I don’t know what it is about getting a cute box packaged up with pink tissue paper, but I love it! 😀 Plus, it makes getting the mail that much more fun!

(This is a pic of the first Birchbox I received!)

Another added perk is the Birchbox Points program, which rewards you for signing up for the monthly samples, shopping on Birchbox.com, referring friends to the program, and sending feedback on your samples. Even sweeter, the points that you earn can be used to purchase full-size products at Birchbox.com!

I didnt get the bracelet 🙁

    • Kathy

To get the bracelet you had to be on of the first 10,000 customers to earn 200 BB points in from September to October. Not sure about the amount of customers, but I know it was a high number.

      • Cara

I don’t have that many pts but I got it… the card said “Thanks for referring friends, leaving feedback, ….”

  2. Kathy

I got the same items. The past few months I really haven’t been impressed with what I received. But so far I love this month’s box. Probably because of the bracelet.

  3. Lauren

I like your boxes! Mine aren’t as exciting as yours. I wonder what I’m doing wrong in the beauty profile?

    • Erin S.

I was just thinking the same thing. I’ve seen a couple reviews from this month and the contents of my birchbox was so different! Instead of the bracelet I received paper coasters. What? lol

I still look forward to it every month though…

      • megacoolmama

Haha! I got the paper coasters, too! I was a little confused by that one! 🙂

  4. sophia

Honestly-It is a great concept, but not everyone gets the same items. I have enjoyed my “samples” but that is just what they are, I have never gotten a full size product before. I eventually cancelled mine since I was always a tad disappointed.

  5. Natasha Morgan

I loved my Birchbox when I got them. I had to cancel unfortunately, but I plan on going back. I look for ward to my box of goodies every month!!

  6. Danielle

the bracelet was a special for the first few people to post reviews during the first 15 days of October. They emailed us about how to earn it at the end of Sept 🙂

this month my box was identical, including the two coasters 🙂 except the bracelet, I can’t quite figure out how to do the reviews, except for when the email me to do them (like the hair ties!) Whenever I log in there isn’t a place to go to review products 🙁

    • Danielle

I think a lot of how much you like it is based on what you are expecting. I like that they are more “high-end” products. If you are trying to get large samples for free, then it might not be for you, but if you want really good quality products that you won’t typically get through dove or whatnot without paying $40 or $50 a piece I think it is great 🙂

    • tisha

if you go to the BOX link at the top of the page and view your last box received and click on each item, under the pic of the item will be one of 3 options (or sometimes all 3 i’ve noticed) one to facebook your comments, one to tweet your comments, and one to review the product – i always pick that one… it took me forever to figure it out too.

      • Danielle

O…M…G… haha. I feel silly now 🙂 I don’t typically tweet/fb stuff, I think my friends would get sick of me, so I just ignored all that! I also seem to wait and actually get to “know” the product before I would go up there and review it, so I was always looking at old boxes, not the newer ones, but now I know 🙂 thanks so much Tisha!!

  7. Abby

Is there a way to purchase a certain number of months in advance? Like for instance, if I wanted to purchase 3 months for a Christmas gift for someone?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yes Abby there is. Go to birchbox.com and go to the section “gifts” there are a couple of options for gifting.

    • Janae

Yes they have gifting options on their website for 3, 6 or 12 month increments.

    • Andrea

I was going to ask the same question. This would be great for my daughters for a Christmas gift! Thx for posting!!

    • Kayla K

There’s a gift subscription option. You choose when you want the first one to ship.

  8. Ashley

I just signed up….now how long will I wait to get a box?

    • Kathy

You’ll get your first box in December.

  9. Ashley

I did a super happy dance when I opened mine. I loved it.

  10. muguccini

I got my first birchbox this month. It was pretty similar to yours. I love it and will do it again every month!

  11. Erin G

I signed up in October, so I’ve only gotten 1 box so far. I received a couple nice size samples, but they have been rather odd products that I probably won’t use. I’m going to give it a few more months!

  12. Essie

Thank you Collin. I had no idea such a company existed until I read your post a few months back. Out of curiosity and like yourself, this is my personal little splurge, and well worth it. This is my fourth box I received since signing up and I have not been disappointed with any one of the four. I have even ordered a couple of full sized products because I genuinely liked the results of the samples sent. The bracelet was really an extra special added incentive. I look forward to seeing that box arrive every month now.

  13. Lacey

I order 3 months for my mom for christmas, i hope she likes it!!

  14. Tara

This was the first Birchbox that I actually did not care for. I did not get the bracelet, the nail polish, or the shimmer creme. I got some crappy Shalimar sample instead. I did get a Kerastase hair treatment, which was the only thing worthwhile for me this month. Still love getting that pink box in the mail and won’t be stopping it any time soon!!

    • ce0zgirl

lol…eww shalimar, you poor thing! have you tried the keratase? i have heard about it and hope it’s in my box.

      • Rachel

Kerastase is the best. I used to live overseas and it was easy to find there and works wonders. Being a swimmer most of my life (up until I graduated college) I found that this stuff was the only thing that kept my normal. Before discovering my hair was light brown (from damage) and after using for a few months it went back to its natural light black/dark brown. I am so glad you can get this in the USA now, I had to buy from overseas a few times. UGH.

    • Lara

Shalimar is my MIL’s favorite! Yet, she is nearing 70. lol.

      • Anne

Shalimar is a true classic, one of the greats. I don’t understand why everyone is knocking it.

  15. ashley

I never did anything special and i got the bracelet

  16. alj2519

I loved the zoya polish and bracelet. I wore them both to Church yesterday. Such a great present every month.
Thanks for telling me about this wonderful site.

  17. Amanda

I’ve been receiving Birchbox for about 4 months now & I love it! I’ve gotten some pretty good samples & it’s nice to get a little present in the mail once a month! 🙂

  18. Ms Tee

This sounds nice but I would be the one who gets the short end of the stick when it comes to prizes. lol 🙂 Besides, I like to know exactly what I’m getting…that’s why I’m so antsy about this VS Secret Rewards Card..please, just tell me now how much I have on it!!! 🙂

    • Delaina

LOL! I know I just want December to hurry up and get here so I can find out how much I have too!

  19. Mandy

What color Zoya nail polish did everyone get? I’m in LOVE with Zoya so I’m curious!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I got this weird green, wish I got a pink color! What color did you get?

      • Ashley

I got like a christmas tree sparkily green color 🙂 didn’t wear it yet but I love zoya 😀

    • Valerie

I got the Izzy…I totally love it! I went on to see what the other colors were and am considering getting the “mini” pack of all the colors.

    • tisha

i got the red which i was super happy for because i’m not a blue or green kind of person – i guess it was based on my beauty profile – i was VERY pleased 🙂

    • ericswifeowensmom

I got a denim blue, which was pretty, but just not “me”.

      • ericswifeowensmom

and just to expand on my previous comment, Zoya nail polish is worth every penny in my opinion! I am very excited to have this sample in my box:)

    • Crystal H

Izzy! It looks like the same color Collin got, pink and sparkly. : ) I prefer blues and greens, but I am rocking it now & it’s awesome. BTW…for those of you that don’t know. Zoya is the best & this bottle is worth $4!

    • Linda Hahn

I got Sooki which is a bright red! So fun!

    • sashagrace

Noel — a glittery denim blue. Not usually my style, but the iciness of it will work well for the holidays 🙂 It’s my first Zoya polish, so I’m excited to try it out.

  20. Heather

It’s very worth it! The samples are deluxe size and well over the $10 you pay for any of it. I personally love it!!!

  21. Rachel

I can’t see any pictures of the Birchbox samples. Maybe it’s just my computer, the boxes where the pic’s should be are blank.

    • Rachel

I can see them now! Very nice!

  22. Brandy

This was my favorite birch box also. I did get some completely different things but LOVED everything I got. I also like the Test Tube program. It averages to be about 3 more dollars a month if you break it up the price over 3 months since you only get it once a quarter. You get more items and there a quite a few full sized ones.

    • Danielle

I’ve looked into the test tube one too! The reviews weren’t so good so I didn’t go for it 🙁 Is it makeup as well or more “beauty” (washes, creams, etc)? Thanks in advance!

      • Brandy

I’ve actually LOVED my Test Tubes (I was lucky and got signed up for the QVC one last month). I enjoyed the regular test tube so much that I signed up for the QVC one. I figure that my husband gets his gym membership and I get my makeup memberships which average about the same amount per month. Here’s what I got in our last shipment (I still have the books) – All sample sizes are descent sized.
        Regular Test Tube:
        1. Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine (received full size retails for $26) Hair shine spray (LOVE IT)
        2. Dr. Brandt Pores no more anti-aging mattifying lotion (Sample Size)
        3. Hydroxatone 90 second wrinkle reducer Instant smoothing serum (Sample Size – Haven’t tried it but am giving it as part of the gift to either my mom or grandma for Christmas since I used my samples that I don’t want for their gifts which they absolutely love).
        4. Kerstin Florian (Sample Size) Foot lotion is awesome
        5. Garnier Skin Renew Clinical Dark Spot Correction (Full Size – I have sensitive skin so this broke me out but my Mom LOVES it)
        6. Lashfood Eyelash conditioner (Sample Size – Giving as gift since I have very full and healthy eyelashes already my grandma doesn’t so she’s getting this in her pack – full size retails for $95 and this is a descent size sample)
        7. Kneipp Herbal Bath (Sample Size – Haven’t had a chance to use this yet waiting until I actually have time to take a bath)
        8. Ahava extreme day cream (Sample Size) Love all Ahava products
Plus with all of these test tubes you get the new beauty magazine which I include in my gifts that I give.

Now onto my QVC one (which I totally fell in love with)
        1. Supersmile Toothpaste (Sample Size) Actually works
        2. Algenist anti-aging moisturizer (Sample Size) waiting to use this
        3. Perricone MD Firming Neck Therapy (Sample Size) Giving as gift although I’m getting ready to turn 30 so I may need to keep some of this myself
        4. Philosophy snow angel shower gel (sample size – who doesn’t LOVE philosophy)
        5. Mally Eyeliner (Full size retail $22) Received one of these previously in one of my other test tubes and fell in love with it so it’s nice that I have an extra for when my other one is all gone.
        6. Laura Geller baked eyeshadow (Full size retail $19.50) Love this
        7. Josie Maran argon oil (Sample Size) Haven’t used it yet but have heard nothing but good things about argon oil.
        8. Wen (Sample size) Really glad I received this because I had been wanting to try it and didn’t want to pay the $30. I’m glad I did get a sample because I probably won’t buy it.
        (Also got the magazine)

I LOVE beauty samples and being able to try new things. The QVC test tube is only available for short periods but since I was a new beauty customer I got an e-mail letting me know they were going to be airing it. If you like birchbox you should give the test tube a try. I have loved every single one I have gotten so far. I may not have loved all the products but I use them to make gift packages for my mom and my grandma (and possibly my mother in law this year) that they absolutely love. I like that you usually get at least 1 or 2 full size items with the test tubes so if I were to cancel one of my subscriptions it would be the birch box. (This is probably going to be a way long post and I’m sorry for that I just wanted to share how much I loved the test tube program and I think it’s totally worth it.)

        • Danielle

Wow!!! Thanks so much for the awesome follow up post! They sound AMAZING! It seems like you get your money’s worth for sure! I like the birchbox for the makeup you get (it seems that you did get that with the QVC one as well, but no promise I’d be able to grab that one 🙁 ) I am only 24, so I don’t need the wrinkle creams that come sometimes, haha. BUT I love the idea of passing them along! I think maybe after the new year (and present buying, lol) is done I’ll buy at least one and see how it goes! I’ll have to keep my ear open for the QVC one as well 😉

thanks soooo much for the AWESOME info 🙂

    • ericswifeowensmom

Has anyone ever tried the Bluum box? for mommy and baby?

  23. Kris

I made the mistake of signing up for the year subscription. Nothing I have received in my boxes amount to paying $10/month. I tried to cancel and they refused to allow me to do so since I had paid the year in advance. Customer service suggested that I gift it to someone else. I would never do this because it would embarrass me. I have never received any full size items. I have only received samples like the ones we are able to get for free. Just a word of CAUTION!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Same with me- I received very small samples and a bracelet that looked like it came out of a gumball machine. This was in September and I cancelled. I would have loved to get a box like the all the ones I have seen featured here. And I don’t think I have an unrealistic expectation for samples I am paying for. From their Facebook page it looked like many people were disappointed in September, but that was my first month and I thought they would especially give people a great box in their first month in order to get them hooked. Too bad- I was considering giving memberships as Christmas gifts if I liked my first box

    • cw

I totally agree with you Kris and Carol. I signed up for the year. I was not happy after the first box and someone at Birchbox told me I could cancel at any point and get the other months back so try calling them again Kris. I have now received 4 boxes and they have been a complete waste of $10. I get better samples when I order from Bloom.com depending on order size up to…5 samples, a few mid-size, and 1 full size…and, most importantly, “I” get to pick my samples. I do not have high expectations for full sized products or anything either. I just get better ones for free at Bloom.com.

  24. ce0zgirl

Completely off topic but…..has anyone received the ‘mystery’ item from MyAutumnBeauty.com that Collin posted about in early October? I haven’t received and was just wondering if I was alone, lol.

  25. Gina

Will this bill my card every month unless I stop it if I go with Join Monthly anyone know?

    • Ashley

I’m pretty sure they do, because after my first one it kept coming and I’m 99% sure I just picked the mothly option (not the year) but it keeps coming, I’m pretty happy because I’m happy with mine 🙂

  26. cassandra

I got a bright red polish, not really my color. it’s a lot of fun getting the boxes, but you do have to keep expectations low. they are high end products- but they are just samples, I’ve gotten Alot of moisturizers-I can only use so many! It’s fun, but I would recommend starting with the 1 or 3 months. I also cannot figure out how to do the review thing- glad i’m not the only one. 🙂

  27. Sara

I was disappointed with my birchbox that arrived this month. It nothing like yours, just 3-4 sample size hair care sample packets and a tied stretchy ribbon that was supposedly a hair tie. My items looked like something that I would receive free on sephora with an order except I had to pay for them. Canceling.

  28. Rebekah

I got the exact same Birchbox as Collin this month including the bracelet which is so adorable! I signed up on Collins first post a few months ago and I just LOVE it. I look forward to it every month and am always very pleased. Of course there is a sample here or there that isn’t for me but that is the whole point…to discover things you love and not waste your money buying a full size of something you don’t. I understand this is apparently not for everyone but I personally LOVE it!

  29. Molly

I was so happy to get the bracelet in my box this month. That is, until I put it on today and just noticed that the paint is wearing off of the beads already 🙁

    • ericswifeowensmom

I know. It looks and feels really “cheap”

  30. Kristin

I love the pink box in the mail every month. However, I also was not thrilled with September’s box. When I receive things I don’t love, I’ve set them aside to send to my sister or give to one of my daughters for Christmas. I received the black bracelet, I think it’s very cute. I go and review all of my products every month. I have a 20$ credit right now and will be at 30$ very shortly.

    • Ashley

can you tell me how to do the reviews? Thanks 🙂

  31. Ashley

I’m VERY happy with my birch boxes 🙂 I think I signed up in Septemeber, I’ve never gotten the same box as collin but everything I get are things that I use (or wanted to try) so I’m quite happy. But sadly I’m thinking about canceling after the holidays (just in case they really bump up for the holidays, man they have me in for the surprise of it) but it’s just between the stuff I get couponing and all these samples, they send them faster than I use them! lol I mean I want to use what I have first (what I have open, as in like face creams/washes ect) I simply have too much stuff lol But this month was a bit of a downer (but still good!) but I was a little disappointed in the toothpaste sample (considering I can get paid to buy a tube just about every other week lol) but it is green apple flavor so it’s neat but not worth the $21 retail price! Another strange but great thing they sent me was CHOCOLATE 😀 lol it was odd because it had like pop rocks in it and something hot in it, it was good 🙂 But if you could tell us how to write the reviews for the points I’d really appreciate it 🙂

    • Danielle

When you log in to the site and click BOX at the top it shows you all of the products you got in your box. When you go on their pages, you should see a link to send feedback. This should be located near the add to cart button. The feedback form is super short and easy considering how fast you get $10 credits.

    • ericswifeowensmom

I got the chocolate too. That was my favorite item in the box! I love how it is spicy, chocolaty and poppy! I’ve already started looking up recipes on how to make it:)

  32. Jillian

I am going to sign up!! but can somome send me a referral link. I am sure Collin has a million and I would like to pay it forward (even though she sure does deserve it with all this hard work in this awesome blog).

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I’d be happy to provide you with a referral link, but need your email in order to send it.

    • Dang

      Hi Jillian,
Can you sign up using my link?
      If needed email me at
      danghsia at yahoo dot com

      Thanks
      D

    • Danielle

I’ve tried to post my referral link butttt the moderator won’t let it be posted 🙂

I think it is against the Hip policy or something?? who knows?? I would love to get a few extra points, and that is super super sweet of you for asking 🙂

    • Danielle

I posted my link on the FB page if you still need one. I would really really appreciate it! And anyone else who needs one 🙂

Thanks oh so much in advance!

  33. Shannon

Not sure about Birchbox, but I really have enjoyed the New Beauty Testtube. I actually got them from QVC since it worked out cheaper than getting them from the New Beauty website. It’s around $30 every 3 months with TONS of stuff in it including 2 full size highend brand products plus many large sample sizes (travel sizes) of about 5-6 more things. It’s been awesome. I may try Birchbox as well.

    • suzski

Completely agree with you Shannon. After, IMO, two disappointing Birchboxes, I gave up. I have a subscription, however, to both the QVC TestTube and the regular (non-QVC) TestTube. Yes, they cost a bit more but I’m getting full size products and I really enjoy them (and they only come every 3 months. Love my TestTubes!

      • Shannon

And really- since it’s about $36-$40 including shipping & tax for the New Beauty Test Tubes- that works out to $12/$13 a month and the stuff is AMAZING! The first one I got made me get totally hooked on Wen Tea Tree Conditioning Cleanser! I also love philosophy brand products already & there has been one in every box. I’ve gotten full size Mally beauty products & some nice Dr. Perricone treatments. Awesome stuff!

    • kelly

are they still offering this promotion?

  34. Emy

Love, Love, Love, Birchbox. Great samples of great products. It is just a little something for myself each month. Highly recommend!!

  35. tisha

i love birchbox – every month there is at least one item in there that i fall in love with – and i have a nice sized wish list going from my favorite products! i love the pretty little box that comes every month just for ME 🙂
i have gotten a few things that i passed on to my daughter – most of these things are definitely NOT in my budget, so it’s fun to me to get to try them for just a little while. All of my samples (except maybe the hair care samples) have been well over a months worth of product, like the face mask and moisturizers, lip gloss, etc. – but it’s obvious, it’s not for everyone. I would definitely only try the one month supply at first, but i’m going to upgrade to the yearly subscription after the holidays – AND i’ve earned enough points to use on some FREE full sized products for my daughters for Christmas!

  36. Mena

I have been receiving Birchboxes for about 5 months. This was one of my favorite. The products are worth more than $10, plus you get credit for your reviews and purchases.
Also, I received an e-mail today that if you purchase $40 you will get a free birchbox. That’s a pretty good deal, but not sure if I will be able to order anything this time.

  37. Kelli

My box was different than the one pictured, I LOVE Birchbox, but this wasn’t my fav month. I really look forward to the first week of the month when my box comes. It’s like a little Christmas gift every time it arrives. I have received some really awesome products.
I would totally recommend Birchbox to anyone- it’s really fun.

  38. Jana

Love my birchboxes… I have recieved several full size or larger samples as well as a couple different nail polishes, moisturizers, masks, etc. I started in August and haven’t been disappointed yet! I think those who are disappointed, it’s probably because expectations are high. If you look at the prices of the full sizes of the items in each month’s box and calculate it out, you’re always getting a good deal. I like to try new products and so far this has been an awesome experience for me!

  39. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

i <3 birchbox! My november box was bleh but the the last one i got ( won free birchbox for a lifetime with a BB FB giveaway) i received full sized products like a full sized oribe dry texuring spray that the retail price TRIPLES what a normal Birchbox! I highly suggest it to others and im giving one to a besty for xmas! Also, i highly suggest joining thier FB giveaways if you are tempeted to get one but cant gamble on it.

    • Danielle

oh wow, was it through the birchbox site? Congrats!

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

It was through the birchbox facebook page, and thanks!

  40. Kendra

I have been getting Birchbox since August ever since I saw one of you posts about it and I have to thank you!! Because I absolutely love it and have told all my friends and family about it! lol. It is so worth the $10 a month. I also got the bracelet and the same box that you did this month. Love it! Thanks again!

  41. Erika C.

I got the exact same box this month. Every month, I tuck away a few items that might not be of my taste for my teenaged daughters, then use one or two myself. I just sorted them out this weekend and they are going to have really nice surprises in their Christmas stockings courtesy of Birchbox. I love the samples and little treats. I’m quite tempted to redeem some points this month for the mustache coaster set 🙂

  42. Cara

I got the same box this month and LOVED it too. I was a little disappointed this week when I went to TJ MAXX and found the Jurlique (sp) hand sanitizer and AHAVA hand cream from my birchboxes (same size) marked down to a couple bucks… there were tons of them too. That didn’t seem like they were ‘cutting edge’ or high-end products to me. However, what does it matter? I love the AHAVA hand cream and I never would have tried it if not for birchbox… plus there are months like this one when the box is a real winner!! WOOT! Also, I have only been reviewing products for a few months and already have enough points to help pay for the first item I have ‘had’ to have the full size of. Everytime I think of cancelling, I get a box and remember why it is worth the $ for me!

The best thing about Birchbox is that even the so-so boxes are still pretty great! This was my 3rd box & the most “disappointing” so far b/c everything I got wasn’t anything I didn’t already have (lip gloss, hair treatment, lotion) BUT they’re all brands I’ve never tried, so at least that’s different. Also, they tend to give out a lot of the same stuff to different people within a few month period. My sister just got her 1st box last week & it had the Joeur lip treatment that I got last month. So you never know, the stuff you’re jealous of this month might end up in your box next month!

As I am a grandmother and still a tomboy at heart, 9/10’s of the items I have received are a complete waste of money. However, they have been put in my care package to the female troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. I can bet the young ladies are tickled with the little bits of femininty that these samples are. Was it worth a year’s subscription? Not to me as a women, but to the girls in Iraq and Afghanistan, I think so. Will I do it again? Probably not, I’ll just scearch out girl goodies at home for our adopted children in the military. Please do not forget the men and women in service. If it is acceptable, one way to find a service person is on anysoldier.com. We have been doing it for over three years and it is so rewarding. Happy thanksgiving to all of you.

That is great that you donate the items! I am sure receiving high end samples like that make their day! We should all donate the items we get and won’t use. Where do you send them?

        Hi Crystal
I go to http://www.anysoldier.com There are posts from service personnel all over the world and in all branches of service. you can refine your search down to areas of the country the unit is from, if they have females and so forth. You sign up, with your name address and email address. I have never been contacted by anyone using my sign up. Your name and information is NOT sold. I also periodically donate cash to the site to keep it up and running. we have received phone calls and letters back as well at asemails from our adopted kids. At nearly 70 years old, they are all kids to me! We send canned food, toiletries, for the girls feminine hygiene items and small girly things like the nail polish. They can wear it on their toenails. Each unit lists what they need. There is no expectation that one person will supply all that is listed. In fact, the most requested item is letters. There are kids out there with zero families to write them. So, anything you or your friends can do will go a long way to alleviating their loneliness

I love birchbox. I joined in June after seeing an ad for it in Allure. My first box I got a full size Laura Gellar bronzer ($30 value), the 2nd month I got a travel size philosophy purity (I swear by this & this size at Ulta/Sephora is $10) & I got Pur mineral foundation one month, too! The past two months have been let downs (hardly any brands I recognize in them) but I got a spackle trial (I’d been contemplating buying it from QVC but couldn’t commit). I just used my first $10 credit to get some $25 spackle for $10 shipped! It may not be worth it every month, but the giddiness I get is worth $10 🙂

I got the same box as Collin and I loooooooved it! I love Birchbox! While I like some boxes each month more than others, I love receiving these in the mail and think it is worth $10 each month.

I’ve been very happy with my Birchboxes ever since I signed up back in August, too! Actually, I got some of the same things Collin did in her box, though I did not get the cool bracelet, and I have never gotten a full-size product. However, I keep hoping that day will come! Also, I have been saving the boxes and tissue paper to use as cute wrapping for gifts! 🙂

    I LOVE my birchboxes 🙂
My box is VERY different from Collin’s, but I totally think it’s worth the $10 each month. I get products that I would never think of buying at full price, so it’s awesome to be able to try out some of these luxury splurge products 🙂

I got the exact same box as you!! I love Birchbox, it is definitely worth the $10. You normally get your money back with just 2-3 of the items you are sent. Plus, you get $4-$5 back every month with the points you earn from the surveys (which take NO time). For me the surprise and excitement alone is worth the $10. It is like having a secret French pen pal that finds the coolest things and sends them once a month.

It’s funny, but I started the same month as you too and had almost the same box then also. I wonder if our profiles are similar? : )

This deal seems great. I think I remember another company that used to do this that I had subscribed for back in the 1990’s. It was called Cosmetique. I always looked forward to the new and fun items I would get. The only complaint I had was that I was always sent lipstick in every box. I am not much of a lipstick wearer, so I ended up with a lot I didn’t use. I think I eventually gave it away to friends or family.

I had just come back here to leave a comment about Cosmetique! I also did this in the 90s. I would always see their advertisements on coupon inserts! It wasn’t name brands I don’t think, but the products were decent quality, wrapped in tissue paper and a gift box, and it usually included something like a makeup bag or mirror. I still have some of these things around the house I think. The company still has a web site- I wonder why I never see any advertising for them.
