Yeah, looks like school supply deals are starting:)

    • makaylaisabel

Im right there with you … woohoo! lol

  2. makaylaisabel

Thanks for the match ups! It reminded me to view the whole ad.
Purell 8oz at $2 and using the $1/2 bricks coupons available on hip2save’s coupon database. $1.50 for this brand I think is a great price especially if you’re trying to reach the $5 mark or using rewards to buy.

    • Carolyn

      I agree!

      • makaylaisabel

😀 Just found it on the girl’s school list. One for now, one for january check!

  3. VISHNU

will staples price match 1c deals from office max. trying to do all deals in 1 store.
also wondering if paper will count towards 5$ purchase to get 1 c deals? please help

    • Suzanne

I was able to purchase Easy Rebate items last year that were valid toward the minimum purchase amount for their 1c deals… Should work! 🙂 good luck!

  4. Kristy

I don’t know if Staples price matches but I do know that Wal-Mart and Target does. Yes the paper counts =)

    • makaylaisabel

I read the fine print on the penny item and it says does not include tax or cost of extreme deal items? What are these? Does it mean the penny item itself or wondering if the $1 and $2 don’t qualify? TIA

    • Willa

Office Depot will match Office Max. If you are getting the paper, it has always counted toward the purchase required for us.

    • Tracy

Last year my Walmart would not match the extreme penny deals.

  5. Nicole

If you want to stock up on the penny deals:
Transaction 1: buy 1 ream of Hammermill for $6.99, 2 of each erasers, index cards, bic pens. Submit for $6.98 rebate. You will pay $.07 plus tax.
    Transaction 2: repeat transaction 1.

  6. Heather

According to Staples ad, I believe the Hammermill copy paper for $6.99 is back in rewards not in the form of a cash rebate. The rewards are for $6.98 making the copy paper 1 penny. Also, there is a limit of 1. Someone please double check me:))

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Oops thanks! Just updated!

    • Sandy

      I prefer easy rebates!!!

  7. Angie

I know last years the stores allow teachers to have a limit much higher than the public. Does anyone know if they are doing this year as well?

    • bryan

You have to pay full price after the first 2, but you get 100% rewards back. Pretty much same as last year.

  8. Vishnu

    Paper limit is 2?

  9. Holly

On the penny deal, is the tax calculated on the penny or the original price? Based on past experience.

    • Danielle

That will depend on the state. In Ohio the sales tax amount is figured after store sales (including store coupons which officially count the same as a sale price) but before manufacturer coupons.

      • MommySpendsLess

Florida is the same way. Sales tax is calculated AFTER Store sales and store coupons. Sales tax is calculated BEFORE manufacturer coupons here.

  10. marlene

last yr. i price matched the penny items and quater items from office max and donated a whole box of supplies to my sons teacher. im going to try and do that this yr. again

  11. Katy

This will be my first time shopping for back to school deals. Can someone tell me…it says a few items are 1 c with a $5 purchase, does that mean i can buy for example 20 1c items or it’s 1 cent item for every $5 purchase?

    • Connie

I have done this before. You buy 5 dollars in purchase and you can buy all items. This is how it has been in the past.

  12. Kelly Hearn

when it says a limit of two, is that per day or per staples card?

    • DJ

per Staples card is what I understand

  13. Vishnu

The paper limit is 2, so u can buy paper to count towards min purchase and do all 1 c deals. Limit on all of them is also 2, per customer. U can do 2 transaction to make the most, and may be 4 if ur Spouse tags along. Gonna try this tomorrow. Had great luck at Office Depot last week matching staples ads and taking staples coupons too. Hopefully staples will do the same.

  14. Thia

I don’t understand the rebate. If I buy the paper do I get cash back via a mailed check like last year or do I earn reward dollars in my account?

  15. MommySpendsLess

Teachers… I’m hoping you can weigh in. My daughter is starting preschool (3 hrs/day) in the fall and I’m guessing her supplies will be mostly craft supplies (scissors, crayons, etc.) and I’ll probably wait to see what her list is.

But when she gets into elementary school I’m hoping to give the teachers baskets of supplies for teach appreciation week (along with a gift card hopefully) so I thought I’d start stocking up now. What items would be helpful to you all? Would cap erasers do any good? How about pens, index cards or adult scissors? (basically the <$2 items). Markers? Office supply stuff (sticky notes, paper clips, binder clips, notebooks, etc.)?

My first thought is that stuff like Sharpies, red pens, rewards stickers, hand sanitizer, tissues, and bulletin board decorations would be most helpful for the teacher's use, along with some student items that the teachers end up helping out with (like white glue, glue sticks, crayons, scissors, etc.) at least in the lower grades, K-1st, but I've never been a teacher so I don't know.

6th grade teahcer here–I try to grade with all different colors. (Those multi-color, ballpoint Bic sets that you can get at Wal-Mart for $1 or so are great! Coupons for Bic come out pretty often–last year, Walgreens had a sale, matched with coupon, we were able to get these for pennies.) Sharpies are always needed–in a variety of tip sizes. I’m going to purchase 2 or 4 packages of the pens (because I teach a higher grade), but no index cards–only a couple packs for my home use–my school provides plenty of these. I will purchase a few eraser packs for my classroom.

I try to keep 2-3 adult scissors handy for my personal/volunteer use, but one pair tends to wander off during the year, so scissors wouldn’t be at the top of my list, but they would be nice. Kid scissors I put in my “Classroom Store”, along with the cap erasers–for students to “buy” with their classroom cash if they run out/lose theirs–those would be great.

I have a bucket of markers that is always in dire need of replenishing (wide-tip) for use by students who can’t locate theirs. paper clips, binder clips are not needed (in my district anyway). sticky notes either….but again, that’s just my district—not a wealthy one, but doing well.

hand sanitizer is ALWAYS needed! tissues….not so much–we ask for a box from each kid to start the year, and they usually last the whole year. my sticker drawer is overflowing, but i am a sticker junky–so i love getting new cute ones! (those you can get from Dollar Tree are great!) i despise glue sticks for my older students, but wouldn’t scoff at a couple of white glue bottles.–you may hear the opposite from primary teachers.

lower grade teachers wouldn’t need binders, but i like to keep a stash on hand (4th-6th) for my students when theirs break. (i find like-new binders at thrift stores for $.50-$1.00)–although, the very best binder for your own child is those Staples binders with the reinforced rubber binding! (they go on sale for buy 2, get one free–but they are about $8–i’ve purchased the last several for my children at thrift stores!)

i would stay away from bulletin board materials as every teacher/grade already has lots of materials, and you might waste money on something that a teacher doesn’t need.

every teacher is different, but i’m sure whatever you put together will be much appreciated! thank you for thinking of the teachers! 🙂

      • MommySpendsLess

Thanks tia and Karin! That gives me a great starting point 🙂

    • Karin

Here in CA – the most requested item my colleagues and kids’ teachers have asked for is: paper for the copy machine. In kinder – I believe glue sticks were a need and Kleenex too. Check your school’s website. I know that I updated our school’s website with requested school supplies for each grade. My kids’ school also updated their website with supplies for next school year. Anything helps 🙂 Your list is good and will be appreciated.

    • makaylaisabel

You got some nice feedback there. On the negative side, I woud say skip over saving markers and tape. 😀 They are not as great as they used to and dry out even closed. Ths happened to my stash of boh regular and Expo after a bit over a year. My stock was indoors in ac but just to state the obvious, mind the temperature such as basement, attic or garage that can damage some items.

  16. Teri

Is this for a cash back rebate? What is the other rebate? … credit of $6.98. I just made this purchase, and can not submit it for the rebate? lol…confused. Anyone know how this works. Last time it seemed it was super easy…lol.

  17. Vishnu

Teri, I hope u put in ur staples rewards card. It pays as staples rewards at the end of the month. It cannot be cashed. It will be staples Money to use on next purchase. Ur rewards need to be 10$ or more in total to get the reward check mailed, I heard. I could be wrong. Call staples if still in doubt.HTH
